November, 1943. We're in Camp Shelby,
just outside of Hattiesburg, Mississippi,
where 5,300 German prisoners of war are interned. 

The Geneva Conventions are being strictly adhered to, with
food (prepared by German cooks), clothing, and medical care equal to their
captors. The German POWs have formed soccer and volleyball teams, with
descriptions and results of the tournaments between them reported in the camp
newspaper, The Mississippi Post. 

A Nazi church has been erected in the camp, where Nazi worshippers attend
services held by Nazi chaplains. In their sermons, the chaplains instruct that:


 Nazism is the true religion, the Aryan Soul the only true
God, our understanding of Whom has been brought to us by His Holiness, Adolph
Hitler. Our F&amp;uuml;hrer, Adolph Hitler is the true Holy Ghost. He is the
human form of the Aryan Soul instantiated here on earth. We believe on this
earth solely in Adolph Hitler and his sacred teachings.  

The Nazi Bible, Mein Kampf, is treated with careful reverence by the
American camp guards.  The Holy Mein Kampf must never be placed in offensive
areas such as the floor, near the toilet or sink, near the feet, or dirty/wet
areas,  state the detailed rules issued by the Pentagon.  Only Nazi chaplains
may handle the Holy Nazi Book, or by guards only after putting on clean white
gloves in full view of the POWs.  

 The Holy Mein Kampf,  states the Pentagon's directive,  should
be treated like a &amp;lsquo;fragile piece of delicate art.'

The things that most of us do that make life worth living - raising a
family, creating or providing something of value, doing work that brings an
income on which we can live, making tough decisions about where we spend our
money, helping a neighbor in trouble, making a marriage work - these are the
very things that the statists in our governments - Federal, State, and Local -
are trying to relieve us of.

Income redistribution is no longer about giving the destitute a safety net
that keeps them from starvation, it is now about spreading the wealth around to
solidly middle class, and even upper middle class  folks, through free health care, retirement,
and government jobs  - not to mention
huge bailouts of multimillion dollar companies.

When that kind of money is being thrown around, what happens to the
incentive for a roofer to work more hours to afford tuition for his kids, or to
build his business so that he can hire more workers? What happens to the mom
who wants to stay at home with her young kids when the government tells her to
get her kids into nursery school to be  socialized? 

The greatest theft taking place in our
country today is not the theft of taxation, or of the coming inflation. The
greatest theft is the trivializing, by the statist cultural elite in America,
of the basic American values of personal achievement, self-responsibility,
self-discipline, thrift, commitment to family and friends, and pride in doing
whatever one does as well as he or she is able, according to his or her true
abilities - and earning and keeping
the rewards of his or her actions.

are somehow  racists.  The charge that Tea Party Americans judge people 
by the
color of their skin is false, appalling, and is a regressive and 
diversionary
tactic to change the subject at hand. 

In 2008, it seemed that with the election of our first 
black
president, our country had become a new  post-racial  society. As one 
writer in

We, as a united people, applauded that sentiment. We were proud of that

the Tea
Party movement of harboring  racist elements.  

The only purpose of such an unfair accusation of racism is to dissuade 
good
Americans from joining the Tea Party movement or listening to the common

Constitution, live within its means, and not borrow and spend away our
children's futures.

I have lost count now of the number of predictions being
made of a GOP  tsunami  in November. 
Serious political analysts, soberly and without hyperbole, are 
saying
that Dem losses in the House, Senate, Governor's mansions, et al, are 
likely to
be of  historic  proportions.

And every one of them unfailingly comes with a caveat,
something along the lines of,  barring some huge unexpected disaster for
the
GOP.   Now, if you were Rahm Emanuel,
what would that caveat cause you to think about?

Kuhner (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/jun/24/who-lost-afghanistan/print/) is an example, who has proclaimed (6/24) that Petraeus is 
 doomed to
fail,  that  the jihadist iceberg is about to sink the American 
juggernaut, 
because:  

	Afghanistan
	is not Iraq. It
	is the graveyard of empires - a nation whose rugged terrain and 
	collection of
	disparate warlords and tribes is ideally suited for guerrilla warfare. 
	The
	vaunted Soviet Red Army was crushed in the 1980s. Imperial Britain
	was defeated - not once, but twice - during the 19th century. The 
	reason: They
	got dragged into protracted wars of attrition. Eventually, the fierce,
	primitive mountains, caves and fighters of Afghanistan
	wore down much superior forces, slowly bleeding them to death. 

This
is ridiculously not true.  Kuhner has obviously neither 
been to Afghanistan
nor studied its actual history but is simply repeating memorized 
slogans.  Thus he asks,  Who lost Afghanistan? 
as if this is preordained.  Let's ask a
different question instead:   Why should
there be an Afghanistan
at all? 

Afghanistan
is a problem, not a real country.  It is
a pain in the world's ass.  The solution
to the problem is not a futile effort of  nation-building  - that
effort is doomed to fail - it is
nation-building's opposite:  get rid of
the problem by getting rid of the country. 
It's a salvage operation - carve the wreck up and parcel it out 
to its
neighbors.  Here's how to do it.

passed a bill increasing cigarette taxes. 
A pack of smokes will average $9.60 across the state, and will be

cigarettes - in New York City.

This is not only pro-smuggling, it is pro-terrorist.  Who 
do you think runs the most lucrative
cigarette smuggling operations from Virginia and the South into New
York?  Hezbollah and Al Qaeda.  The 
higher taxes will mean higher profits for
them, which they will use to kill Israelis and Americans in Afghanistan.

The state legislators who voted for the taxes should be
tried for aiding and abetting terrorism for this alone.  But
the consequences could be vastly
worse.  New York's
new tobacco tax law is an example of the Law of Unintended Consequences 
run
amok.  It's the coming nightmare of Crack Nicotine.

Mr. Chancellor, Members of the Board of Regents, Members of the Faculty,
Honored Graduates, Families and Friends:

It's funny that they call this ceremony a Commencement, for you've all 
reached
the finish line:  college, goodbye, we're outta here.  Yet of course,
 commencement  means a beginning, not an end.

But one is supposed to at least start - commence - a talk such as this 
by
saying funny things.  So I'll start by talking about Clark Gable
movies.  If you've heard of Clark Gable at all, you know he was the
biggest movie star in Hollywood a
long time ago.  His most famous movie was Gone With The Wind.

He made a movie in 1955 called The Tall Men with Jane Russell as 
his
girlfriend and Robert Ryan as the heavy.  It's a pretty ordinary Western
flick with outlaws and cowboys and Indians - and at the end, Ryan, the 
bad guy,
and his henchmen get the drop on Gable, the good guy, and all seems 
lost. 
Suddenly, surprise, Gable outfoxes Ryan and triumphs.  Gable makes his
exit, and after he does, Ryan delivers a line that I want you to never 
forget.

Serendipity is funny, a very funny thing, finding something where you 
least
expect it.  Out of the blue, out of a movie awash with pedestrian
dialogue, comes a line so profound it detonates inside your brain. Ryan 
turns
to his men and says:

On May 29, 1943, with the outcome of World War II still very much in doubt,
the cover of the Saturday Evening Post was a Norman Rockwell painting 
that
quickly became an iconic expression of America's
determination to defeat a deadly enemy.

It was a painting of a woman - an aircraft assembly-line
worker with a rivet gun in her lap taking a lunch break:  Rosie
the
Riveter.

While there was a real life Rosie - Rose Will Monroe from
Somerset, Kentucky, who worked in a Ford factory in Ypsilanti, Michigan
building B-29 and B-24 bombers - Rockwell took for his inspiration
Michelangelo's painting of the prophet Isaiah on the ceiling of the 
Sistine
Chapel.

A modern-day Rockwell who goes by the single name of  Dale 
has now given us a new iconic expression of America's
determination to defeat the deadly enemy she faces today:  Sarah
Para
Bellum.

 I
was trying to relate how Sarah Palin fit into the Rosie the Riveter 
mold,  Dale

This past Monday evening, May 10th, with my wife
at a dinner business meeting I decided to treat myself to a steak at

Chris - which I consider the best steak in America
this side of Peter Luger's in Brooklyn.

I arrived at the Ruth's Chris in Tyson's Corner, Virginia
(8521 Leesburg Pike), a little after nine. 
My server was a very nice and competent lady named Shannon. 
As it was late, the place was fairly
empty:  two fellows in a booth across from
me, a quartet at a table to my left, another group to my right, and a 
third
group that I could hear but not see.

Shannon took my order and soon
afterwards, both the group on my right and left departed.  Only
the group that I couldn't see (plus the
two fellows in the booth) were left and now that the other folks had 
gone, I
noticed how loud they were.  Really
loud.  As I listened, the language they
were speaking was unmistakable.  It was
Arabic.

deranged
person or someone with a political agenda who doesn't like the health 
care bill
or something. 

When he learned the truth, Mayor Bloomberg 
did not
apologize for his smear of people who don't like Obamacare.  Instead, he
smeared the people of New
York City.

jail for an indefinite period with no bail or hearing set for blowing 
the
whistle on judicial corruption in California.

The chain of events that led to his incarceration was set in motion in 
2000,
when Richard Fine became aware that L.A.
superior court judges were receiving illegal  judicial benefits  
payments from Los
Angeles County,
despite the fact that lawsuits against that county were often 
adjudicated by
these same judges, thus creating clear conflict of interest problems. 

In other words, the Los Angeles
County Board of Supervisors, with taxpayer funds, was bribing superior 
court
judges to decide cases in favor of the county.  This is  the greatest judicial scandal in American history,  as Mr. Fine says, and he has become an American political prisoner because of it.

A story doesn't have to be uplifting and inspiring to have power, it can just as well be frightening, horrifying or degrading, playing into the worst impulses of human nature.

We have a fantastic, epic adventure story all the way through to about the time of the Civil War and the days of the Wild West. Then we've got a few great chapters since. But ever since the progressive movement tried to usurp our constitutional republic and refocus our attention on making better people through more powerful government, all we've been doing, really, is trying our best to stop them.  Where is our story of liberty?

awkward answer -  Uh... Myself? Uh....Well, I don't 
really do
anything personally, I argue for the government to do these things  - It
was
obvious that this great weaver of musical tales advocating social 
justice had
never considered that he could personally use his own substantial 
wealth, time
and energy to actually help real people in need.

No, this is all abstraction. It's all about who gets to move which 
people
around the chessboard of life, in order that the mover can feel good and
worthy
and useful and proud. It's about  fixing  people;  healing  our world.

This is the difference between the conservative vision and the 
progressive
vision. The conservative wants to help, the progressive wants to fix.

There's an odd thing that happens when politicians get scared: They grudgingly call in the smart guys and let them loose. 

Most of us learn about this in elementary school: The smartest kid in the class is more or less abused until the class gets into real trouble; then they run straight to him and promise to do whatever he says. 

That was how the Internet was created. It was a  smartest kid  project. 

The event that scared the politicians into gathering the smart kids and setting them loose was Sputnik, launched in October 1957. The USSR surging ahead of the USA in space meant that they had to pull out all the stops. The resulting Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) was where the Internet was born. 

The Internet is structured different than anything a controlling type would make. (People in government are mostly controlling types; the smartest kid in class is most always not a control type.) on Drudge (2/11) about the Obama Administration asserting that Americans have
 no reasonable expectation of privacy  regarding their cell phone
conversations.

It's yet another sign of the emerging Electronic Police
State. 

When we think of a  police state,  most of us summon images
of Nazi storm troopers or Stalin's henchmen dragging people out of their houses
in the middle of the night. These images are accurate enough, but they reflect the
conditions of the world over a half-century ago, and they really do not very
well reflect what is happening in the world today. 

In other words, these images are mostly out of date. The
modern police state is generally silent and transparent. It is electronic. 

I want you to think very hard and long on this: any email you have ever sent
can be grounds for felony federal wire fraud prosecution threatening you with
20 years in prison. The email, or  electronic transmission,  does not
itself have to be fraudulent. It can still be  wire fraud  if it is only
somehow  involved  in what the government deems to be a  fraudulent scheme.  Nervous now?

I'd like to expand on a theme I briefly discussed at the Remember The Alamo
Rendezvous this past weekend, because it provides such a stark contrast between
us and the Left.  That theme was:  Capitalism... is fun!

Socialism, Fascism, Communism, Obamaism, ideologies that seek to move masses
of people as masses in some
particular direction or other in order to fulfill some politician or
bureaucrat's lofty and self-righteous vision... is boring. Such systems dwell on what's wrong with life, they view
people as helpless victims, and they undermine the joy of living.

One reason why I have such great hope for our country is that a defining characteristic
of the American People is that we like to
have fun. We're playful people.  We
like the excitement of a new possibility. We love to solve problems; we like to
get applause for a talk, pay and appreciation for a job well done, rewards for
a new path explored, a new idea, and an exceptional performance. 
This is
fun.

This is something Obama and the others have no understanding of. Obama with
his chin upturned in communist art form style; Pelosi with her giddy school
girl class president ideas of how we should all behave; Gore with his ascetic
and moralistic Green religious zeal.  It's all boring.
