THE FRAUD OF THE SO-CALLED CONSERVATIVE MEDIA

Polls show Donald Trump with comfortable leads in the Republican primaries in Indiana and California.  If it plays out this way, the Republican Party is doomed, and so is our constitutional republic.

Some say they support Trump because he is Politically Incorrect.  Trump wants to permit “transgendered” males to pee next to girls.  It’s hard to be more Politically Correct than that, and it’s a viewpoint I doubt many of Mr. Trump’s supporters share.

Some say they support Trump because he’s an “outsider” who’ll “shake up the system.”  Evidently they are unaware that Mr. Trump is exactly the kind of crony capitalist on whose behalf the system is run.  As Jack Wheeler explained last week, his new (de facto) campaign manager, Paul Manafort, is exactly the sort of Washington lobbyist the Donald has decried on the stump.

Pay no attention to what Mr. Trump says on the stump, Mr. Manafort told the Republican National Committee.  It’s all an act, bait for the boobs.  Mr. Trump poses no threat to the GOP establishment, Mr. Manafort said.

Some say they support Mr. Trump because he’s a winner.  Evidently they don’t know that he is the only “Republican” who is certain to lose to Hillary Clinton.  Virtually every general election poll indicates he’d get thumped worse than any “Republican” since Goldwater.

Consider my home state of Wisconsin, a light blue state which has gone Democrat (however narrowly) in the last seven presidential elections.  In a poll April 22, Hillary led Sen. Ted Cruz by a single percentage point, 45-44, but led the Donald, 46 to 34.Two thirds of Americans tell pollsters they have an unfavorable opinion of Trump. If he is the nominee, normally bright red states such as Utah and Mississippi would be in play.

I put “Republican” in quotes with reference to Trump because he isn’t one.  He’s a liberal Democrat.  His knee jerk support for having “transgendered” males use women’s toilets indicates where his true sympathies lie.

That same week, the Donald protested Treasury Secretary Jack Lew’s decision to replace Andrew Jackson on the face of the $20 bill with Harriet Tubman.  If he thinks that stance appeals to conservatives, he doesn’t realize most of us are pleased to have the founder of the Democrat party replaced by a Bible-thumping, gun-toting Civil War hero.

It could be that Mr. Trump took that stance to mollify the white “nationalists” in his base.  They oppose the change for the same reason leftists support it – because Ms. Tubman was a black woman.  Conservatives support her because of who she was and what she did.

This is a pattern that’s been repeated often.  Trump’s knee jerk response to a question, as when he endorsed Planned Parenthood or big tax increases, indicates what he really thinks.  And what he really thinks is little different from what Hillary Clinton thinks.  She’s the politician to whom Trump has contributed the most money.

When told of his error, Trump “modifies” his position.  But the sour notes he sounds indicate Trump doesn’t understand what conservatives think, doesn’t mean the more conservative things he says.

We know from the nasty things they say that some Trumpkins don’t care what the truth is.  But I doubt that 38 percent of Republican primary voters are cultists, or racists, or morons.  They’ve been misled.  The truth about Donald Trump and his dismal electoral prospects has been concealed from them.

The Trump candidacy is a product of his total domination of the news media.  He’s been given billions of dollars worth of free publicity, hours upon hours of nearly uncritical coverage.

This is because Trump is a celebrity who attracts viewers, listeners and readers – and because he is a Trojan horse.

The “mainstream” media have an ulterior motive.  They want Republicans to nominate the weakest possible candidate to run against Hillary in the fall. But most conservatives learned long ago not to put too much trust in the Lying Swine.

The worst offenders have been in the so-called “conservative” media, especially Fox News and (much of) talk radio.  Rupert Murdoch and Rush Limbaugh have more money than most people can spend in a lifetime.  But as John Ziegler explains in this must read article from March, they’ve sold out their country for a few dollars more.

“To fully understand how and why ‘conservative’ media willingly enabled this hostile takeover of the Republican Party, you primarily need to comprehend what a fraud the entire industry is,” Ziegler said.  “The vast majority of ‘conservative’ media is just a business cynically disguised as a cause.”

To boost their ratings during a slow news period last summer, Fox News and the most prominent “conservative” talk show hosts – including Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin – played up the Trump candidacy.

The excessive and near exclusive focus on the Donald stole the oxygen from the other GOP candidates, brought an abrupt end to the candidacies of the Republicans – Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry – most qualified to be president and most likely to be elected president.

“Once the average Trump supporter bought into the bogus ‘conservative’ media narrative about him which absolved all of his many past sins, he was basically unstoppable,” Ziegler said.  “After all, if he really wasn’t one of ‘us,’ or was bad for the “cause,” surely Rush, or Sean, or Bill (O’Reilly), or Mark, or Matt (Drudge) would tell them that. Right?”

Wrong.

“Hannity effectively became an arm of the Trump campaign,” Ziegler said.  “Limbaugh continued to defend him. Drudge waged a vicious overt war against (Marco) Rubio and Ted Cruz and made sure that no negative Trump stories could gain traction.”

Many of us who have depended on Fox for ‘fair and balanced’ news feel betrayed,” wrote Patricia McCarthy in the American Thinker.  “Fox has set out to convince its viewers that Trump is a legitimate candidate, not a spoiler for Hillary – that he is a conservative when he is clearly not… These folks are betraying the country for the friendship of a rich celebrity.”

“The ‘conservative’ media doesn’t really care if Trump beats Hillary,” Ziegler said.  They ‘win’ either way.  They get great ratings through November, and… they end up with Hillary to provide them with easy content for at least the next four years.”

“With all the talk of dismantling the ‘evil establishment’ in this election cycle, for conservatives to ever win a presidential election again, the REAL ‘establishment’ which needs to be shattered is that of the elite ‘conservative’ media,” Ziegler said.  “While the Republican establishment is weak and incompetent, at least most of them are not overtly working for the other side.”
