We used to expect more of our presidents than that they not have been indicted for major felonies.

There were no new “bombshells” in the Report of the Benghazi Committee.  But there were exhaustive, chilling new details about a foreign policy gone awry, about gross negligence and deliberate deceit.

Ousting Muammar Khadafy has turned Libya into a base from which ISIS infiltrates Europe and other countries in North Africa.

*Senior State Department officials were warned repeatedly about Islamist danger, but ignored or rejected pleas from Ambassador Chris Stevens on down for more security.  The Diplomatic Security Service staff in Libya was cut from 34 to 6 the month before the attack.

“This was a suicide mission,” a DSS officer assigned to the consulate told a superior in Washington. “There was a very good chance that everybody here was going to die.”

“Everybody back here in D.C. knows that people are going to die in Benghazi,” responded the DSS desk officer in the Near Eastern Affairs Bureau. “Nobody cares, and nobody is going to care until somebody does die.”

Four somebodies did die – and Hillary still didn’t care.  She still doesn’t to this day.

*As Secretary Clinton acknowledged that night in conversations with the president of Libya and the prime minister of Egypt, senior officials in Washington were informed minutes after it began the assault on the consulate was a terrorist attack.

*Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said he ordered troops to be sent to Benghazi about two and a half hours after the attack began.  But none were dispatched during the eight hour siege.

The Fleet Anti-Terrorism Support Team in Rota, Spain probably could have gotten to Benghazi before former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were killed.  But its departure was delayed while senior officials at a meeting Secretary Clinton attended bickered over whether the Marines should wear their uniforms. They changed in and out of them four times while waiting for permission to go.

The death toll would have been higher if survivors hadn’t been rescued by forces loyal to Khadafy.

*Five of 11 “action items” at that “Deputies” meeting concerned a YouTube video criticizing the Prophet Mohammed that everyone knew had nothing to do with the attack.

His Libya policy was a success, al Qaida was on the run, President Obama had been telling voters.  The truth about Benghazi conflicted with those narratives.

The video triggered the attack, she was going to have the filmmaker arrested, Hillary Clinton told family members of the victims at a memorial service Sept. 14. When they expressed outrage after learning the truth, Hillary accused the family members of lying.

*We learned from the Benghazi investigation Hillary used a private email server for official business. Though warned it was insecure, she sent and received classified messages, shared secrets with people not authorized to receive them.

Hillary used the private server to evade the Freedom of Information Act. When this was exposed, she destroyed evidence.

She was “extremely careless” in handling “very sensitive, highly classified information,” FBI Director James Comey said Tuesday (7/05).

“It’s hard to read Comey’s statement as anything other than a wholesale rebuke of the story Clinton and her campaign team have been telling ever since the existence of her private email server came to light,” said Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post.

But Comey did not recommend prosecution because Hillary didn’t intend to harm the United States.

Section 793(f) of Title 18 of the United States Code criminalizes gross negligence, of which officials not named Clinton found guilty go to prison for up to ten years.

“The lack of intent to harm our country is irrelevant,” said former U.S. Attorney Andrew McCarthy. “People never intend the bad things that happen due to gross negligence.”

If Hillary intended to harm our country, that would be treason, for which the punishment is more severe.

Section 2071 says that anyone who has custody of classified material and “willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies, or destroys the same, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years.”

Section 1924 says an employee of the United States who “knowingly removes [classified] documents or materials without authority and with the intent to retain such documents or materials at an unauthorized location shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both.” Hillary set up a private server explicitly to do this.

Comey, of course, knows all this. He was said to be upset that CIA Director Gen. David Petraeus was allowed to plead to a misdemeanor for a far less serious breach of security.  So why would he lay out in such detail the case against Hillary, and note in his statement others have been prosecuted for similar offenses, and then not recommend prosecution?

Comey did this to keep Donald Trump from being president, the Wall Street Journal thinks.

After the secret meeting last week between Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch, he had to know the fix was in. If Comey had recommended prosecution, he knew Ms. Lynch would never indict Hillary, no matter how much evidence he presented.

By doing what he did, Comey took upon himself the onus for pronouncing the end of the rule of law. But he laid out graphically the case against Hillary, which the attorney general would have buried.

Comey was “blinking in Morse code,” said Thomas Lifson of the American Thinker. He did what his political superiors ordered him to do, but did it in a way to cause Hillary maximum political harm.

“In the view of the FBI, Hillary Clinton is a blundering fool who compromised national security,” said USA Today columnist James Robbins. “’Dangerously negligent but never indicted’ is an extremely low bar to set for the leadership of the free world. And it kills Hillary’s argument that she would be a highly skilled chief executive.”

We’ve good reason to worry about how a President Trump might respond to that 3 a.m. phone call.  We’ve seen how Hillary responded.  It should make us very, very afraid.

What should make us even more afraid is that millions of Americans will vote for her regardless.  No one in their right mind could vote for this bottomlessly corrupt criminal.  Which means millions of Americans have lost their minds.  Scared yet?
