IS THAT ALL YOU GOT?

The Democrat Party is in thrall, we're told, of the mighty power of the Moonbat Left, with its millions of passionate adherents all ruthlessly organized via MoveOn.org to bring doom to any politician who dares oppose them.

Their strength would literally be on parade, they boasted, in the nation's capital in a glorious resurrection of the left's finest moment of anti-war protest forty years ago.   More than a hundred thousand of them would march on the Pentagon, humbling their arrogant warmongering government over Iraq as their parents and grandparents once did over Vietnam.

Why they chose March 17, 2007 as the "40th Anniversary" of the legendary-to-them March on the Pentagon is mysterious, as the latter took place on October 21, 1967.

On that October day 40 years ago, well over 100,000 lefties, cheered on by Jane Fonda, Noam Chomsky, and Abbie Hoffman, marched from the Lincoln Memorial over Memorial Bridge and down to the Pentagon, where they were met by 2,500 armed Army soldiers.

Lefty author Norman Mailer wrote a book about it, The Armies of the Night, which however poorly and egomaniacally written, won a Pulitzer Prize.

No one, not even as awful a writer as Mailer, is going to write a book about the pathetic fizzle of this last Saturday.  What a bust.

PUTIN LOSES CONTROL

Vladimir Putin has lost control of Russia's economy and may be forced to impose Soviet-style exchange controls after "shock and awe" action by the central bank failed to stem the collapse of the ruble.

"The situation is critical," said the central bank's vice-chairman, Sergei Shvetsov. "What is happening is a nightmare that we could not even have imagined a year ago."

The currency spiked from 71 to 98 against the euro yesterday (12/16) in the biggest one-day drop since the default crisis in 1998 as capital flight gathered pace, despite a drastic rise in interest rates to 17% the day before (12/15) intended to crush speculators and show resolve. It closed at 87, and at this writing today (12/17) is at 83.

Yields on two-year Russian bonds spiraled to 15.36%, while credit default swaps are pricing in a one-third chance of a sovereign default. The shares of Russia's biggest lender, Sberbank, fell 18%.

Neil Shearing, from Capital Economics, said the spectacular failure of the rate shock may bring matters to a head. "If a rise of 650 basis points won't do the job, we are near the end. That means stringent capital controls," he said.

In Washington, the White House said it had no intention of easing pressure on Russia to halt the freefall. "It is President Putin's decision to make. The aim is to sharpen the choice that he faces," said White House spokesman Josh Earnest yesterday.

After years of bluster and suggestions by Mr. Putin that the US is a paper tiger, the Kremlin is now coming face to face with the cataclysmic consequences of what it has done by invading Ukraine and changing Europe's borders by force.

HALF-FULL REPORT 08/22/14

It's an understatement to say this has been an eventful week, reeking with horror, mayhem, and jaw-dropping Democrat thuggery.

Yet, at week's end - at least Friday morning as this is written - the glass is turning out to be more than half-full.  The bad guys are taking it in the shorts from Austin to Ferguson to Donetsk to Gaza to Iraq. And it's been a bad week for Zero too...

We'll start with the good news about Raed Atar, Muhammad Abu Shamaleh, and Muhammad Barhoum:  they're dead.  The three top Hamas military commanders were nailed in an IAF air strike yesterday (8/21).  It's a Moral and Military Blow for Hamas, declared the Jerusalem Post...

You may have noticed there's a new YouTube graphic in the left side bar.  That's a link to the TTP YouTube video channel.  I kicked it off with four vids of me that I hope you enjoy (and yes, one is the Arm Wrestling Putin saga).  Feel free to send them to everyone you know on earth.  We'll be adding to our video library (and not just me pontificating!).  Let us know on the Forum what you think...

OK, here's the question of the moment.  On January 20, 2017 when President-elect Perry takes the oath of office on the Capitol's West Portico, will he have sent a thank you note and personal invitation to attend to Rosemary Lehmberg?...

Then there's the Epic Fail of Ferguson.

THE COLD FACTS ABOUT REALITY DENIERS

The gullible give in to the government's global-warming myth

{youtube}tiO68V45bjY{/youtube}

"Wasting Resources on a potential threat ignores problems at hand."

Much of the media treat those who are skeptics about man-made global warming with the pejorative term "global-warming deniers," as if they were Holocaust deniers. Yet many of those in the media who watched presidential spokesperson Jay Carney engage in what can only politely be called "reality denial" day after day were-all-too silent about his obvious misstatements.

Reality deniers get away with many of their fibs because...

WHY THE MIDDLE CLASS IS VANISHING

Just about any measure of "income inequality" reported by the media or trumpeted by Democrats is grossly misleading.

How gross? Take a look at the table below. Note that it is for Mississippi, one of the lowest welfare payment states. Note, too, that this chart is pre-Obamacare, which is hugely redistributive.

As you'll see, after considering taxes and redistribution, someone earning $60,000 per year has about $3,400 less effective income than someone earning $14,500 per year. The trend toward part time jobs started before Obamacare, though that made the incentives for part time work even stronger than shown in the chart.

The big drop in the percentages of people participating in the work force is not due to aging Baby Boom demographics. The percentage of the 55 and older cohort that is employed has actually increased since 2009. The prime working age participation of the 18-44 and 45-55 year olds has dropped dramatically.

Looking at the chart, you can see that:

SACRILEGE IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC

Betio Island, Tarawa Atoll, Kiribati.  I might as well warn you right up front.  You are really, really not going to like this.  You are going to get seriously steamed.

Tarawa is sacred history in the annals of the United States Marines.  The Battle of Tarawa was one of the most brutal and lethal in the Corps' history.

After losing Guadalcanal to the Marines in 1942, the Japanese were determined not to lose Tarawa, with its vitally strategic position in the Central Pacific.  They spent a year building up an incredibly well-fortified array of defenses on Betio to control the entrance to the lagoon and thus the entire atoll.

The Japanese commander, Rear Admiral Keiji Shibazaki, was so confidant of his preparations and men his message to Tokyo was, "It would take one million men one hundred years" to conquer Tarawa.

It took the US Marines 76 hours.  But at a horrible cost.  On Tarawa, the Marines demonstrated epic bravery and heroism - guts and glory beyond normal imagination. 1,113 Marines died, 2,290 wounded.  It is no mystery whatever that Tarawa is a sacred memory for all Marines - and to trash and besmirch it would be sacrilegious.

Yet that is exactly and precisely what has happened, and in the most disgusting manner thinkable.

THE DEMOCRATS ARE A CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY, NOT A POLITICAL PARTY

On Tuesday (5/31), Ron Paul announced that "we are on the verge of having way too much dictatorship in Washington, D.C."  Verge?  Verge??

The time is way past for verging.  Our Federal Government has already become a dictatorship run by a criminal conspiracy calling itself a political party - just as the totalitarian conspiracy of Islamism calls itself a religion.

We owe no respect whatever to a fascist ideology posing as a religion - and we owe no respect whatever to a criminal gang posing as a political party.

The time is way past for ending the charade.  If it is not ended now - if the Democrat Gang retains the White House in 2012 - then game over for America.

We'll itemize a few of the legion of examples of the Gang's criminality - but at the outset, let's clearly state the purpose here.

It is of mortal importance for our future that we deny legitimacy to the Democrats.  They are not a legitimate political party advocating legitimate political goals.  They are a collection of looters, gangsters, thugs, extortionists, hustlers, shakedown specialists, scam artists, smooth-talking con-men, and mafiosi.  All banded together to steal our money and control our lives with guns.

TRULY POST-MODERN ART

"Modern art" is typified by meaningless blobs of paint splattered on a canvas, with "post-modern art" equally mindless and unintelligible.  TTP is therefore pleased to salute a real artist Chris Hopkins and his magnificent painting Saluting Reagan:
saluting_reagan
The price of the original oil on canvas is $50,000.  A poster, however, is only 24 bucks.  At that price, we can all afford to salute the 20th century's greatest American president.

THE WHORES OF JAMA

Last week (2/28), JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association, published a hit piece on antioxidant vitamins.  JAMA's Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of beta carotene, vitamin A, and vitamin E concluded that taking supplements of them increases one's chances of death by 5%.

The lamestream media gleefully ran stories on the study, with headlines like "Vitamins Can Kill You."

It's the whores of JAMA and their media shills who can kill you, not vitamins.

Note the "Meta" in the study's title.  That means it's an analysis of other studies, not research itself.  What these folks did is, out of the close to a thousand clinical antioxidant studies, they cherry picked 68 that showed what JAMA wanted.

And they had to lie about many of those in order to force the data to fit their pre-ordained conclusion.

THE CATASTROPHE OF THE CORRUPTION OF SCIENCE

As somebody who has championed science all his career, carrying a lot of water for the profession against its critics on many issues, I am losing faith.

Recent examples of bias and corruption in science are bad enough. What's worse is the reluctance of scientific leaders to criticize the bad apples. Science as a philosophy is in good health; science as an institution increasingly stinks.

This past week has seen three egregious examples of poor scientific practice. The most recent was the revelation last week that scientists appeared to scheme with environmental activists to get neonicotinoid pesticides banned, rather than open-mindedly assessing all the evidence.

Second example: last week, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), a supposedly scientific body, issued a press release stating that this is likely to be the warmest year in a century or more, based on surface temperatures. Yet this predicted record would be only one hundredth of a degree above 2010 and two hundredths of a degree above 2005 - with an error range of one tenth of a degree.

In any case, the year is not over with 16% of the 2014 data not yet recorded, so why the announcement now? Oh yes, there's a political climate summit in Lima this week.

HALF-FULL REPORT 08/15/14

We begin by noting the passing of two famous women this week.  The first is the natural death at 89 of Lauren Bacall, a woman of sublime beauty, character, class, and talent:

She became a Hollywood icon with her very first movie in 1944, To Have and Have Not with Humphrey Bogart, whom she subsequently married.  Her "whistle" scene remains today as one of the most famous in motion picture history.

The second passing is the political death at 66 of a lady who is the antithesis of beauty, character, class, and talent:

BETTER FUEL PRODUCTION & TRANSPORT COULD ENHANCE U.S. SECURITY

You may have noticed gasoline prices are rising. If the Middle East situation gets much worse, gasoline prices will rise even more. The good news is that we are likely to avoid long gas lines as we had in the late 1970s under President Carter, because fracking and other new technologies have lessened our dependence on foreign oil and gas. The bad news is that a major rise in oil prices could easily tilt Europe and other places back into a recession, which could kill the little growth the United States is now experiencing.

The tragedy is all of this was unnecessary, but brought about by the Obama administration, letting short-term political considerations and ideology override good economics and global security.

CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE OR CHECK YOUR CHARACTER?

Hi, my name is Tal Fortgang, and I'm a freshman at Princeton University.  I'd like to tell you about a phrase that floats around college campuses, Princeton being no exception, that threatens to strike down opinions without regard for their merits, but rather solely on the basis of the person that voiced them.

"Check your privilege," the saying goes, and I have been reprimanded by it several times this year. The phrase, handed down by my moral superiors, descends recklessly, like an Obama-sanctioned drone, and aims laser-like at my pinkish-peach complexion, my maleness, and the nerve I displayed in offering an opinion rooted in a personal Weltanschauung.

"Check your privilege," they tell me in a command that teeters between an imposition to actually explore how I got where I am, and a reminder that I ought to feel personally apologetic because white males seem to pull most of the strings in the world.

I do not accuse those who "check" me and my perspective of overt racism, although the phrase, which assumes that simply because I belong to a certain ethnic group I should be judged collectively with it, toes that line.

But I do condemn them for diminishing everything I have personally accomplished, all the hard work I have done in my life, and for ascribing all the fruit I reap not to the seeds I sow but to some invisible patron saint of white maleness who places it out for me before I even arrive.

SERENDIPITY IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC

tuvalu_map.png

Funafuti, Tuvalu.  I'm not sure if what I've discovered here in one of the world's smallest and unknown independent countries is a case of serendipity: finding something where you least expect it - or barendipity: not finding something where you most expect it.  Whichever, it's fascinating, revelatory, and absolutely hilarious.

I came here to understand why and how this place exists.  You'll be amazed to find out.  Get ready to have a really fun learning experience. And enjoy the photos...

THE SPEECH I’D GIVE IF I WERE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT

I am running for president because freedom in America is being systematically destroyed by Demagogues in Washington, and I am determined to restore it.

That capital "D" is there because it is the more appropriate label for Democrats.  The Democrat Party should be referred to as the Demagogue Party, and that is what I shall do until the day comes when they abandon their opposition to fundamental American values and their advocacy of Marxist-Fascist ideology.

We are gathered here today to discuss solutions to the economic crisis the Demagogues have created - a crisis to which they claim there is no solution.   Their Treasury Secretary, Mr. Geithner, has stated this publicly, saying that for a lot of Americans, their lives are going to be, quote, "harder than anything they've experienced in their lifetime now, for a long time to come."

This is a textbook example of Demagogue Marxist idiotic nonsense.  Folks, restoring prosperity in America is easy. It can be achieved quickly, virtually overnight.  Not automatically.  It will require a lot of energy, a lot of focused and intelligent effort by all of us.  The solution to America's Malaise is so simple it can be summarized in seven words.  Those seven words are:
