RUSSIAN SOLDIERS ARE FREEZING TO DEATH IN EASTERN UKRAINE

Russians too frozen to move in a trench as a drone bomb explodes among them

The Ukrainian army has deployed some of its best brigades to eastern Ukraine, including the 92nd and 93rd Mechanized Brigades and the 1st Presidential Brigade.

But these elite Ukrainian formations might not be the biggest killer of Russian troops in the east. Under-trained, under-supplied and ambivalently led, Russians in the region are freezing to death by the dozen.

Shocking videos that have circulated online in recent weeks tell a tragic story. The videos, shot by the Ukrainian brigades’ hovering drones, depict Russians in the late stages of hypothermia, so cold and sick that they barely react when the drones drop lethal improvised bombs on them.

Thomas Theiner, an ex-soldier who currently is a filmmaker in Kyiv, predicted winter “would kill more Russian soldiers than Ukraine ever could.” He may have been right.

YES, THE 2020 ELECTION WAS STOLEN

illegal-procedureFor two years, the constant shouting of childish epithets at anyone who would dare question Joe Biden’s legitimacy has suppressed a necessary reckoning with an election that was, in every sense, a complete aberration.

It is disingenuous to dismiss the role of fraud in such an unprecedented scenario: an election with historic turnout that, thanks to the widespread adoption of an unconventional voting method prone to cheating, was not decided until an unusually dilated, shadowy tabulating process had run its course in a handful of heavily partisan jurisdictions.

The Right must not simply forget it and move on. Why? Because the Left’s Big Lie about the 2020 election legitimizes a lawless, counterfeit system. If the system is not unrigged, if the 2020 election’s legitimacy is not repudiated, then we can kiss any chance of free and fair elections goodbye. Every election going forward will be just like 2020 and 2022. Are you ready for that?

KEEPING YOUR SANITY BY NOT SHAMING YOUR FRIENDS

For many years psychological research tended to use guilt and shame interchangeably, which made it hard to see the very different qualities of each. But we know a lot more about those differences now, and they are substantial.

Guilt is associated with accepting responsibility.  Shame, on the other hand, compels us to avoid responsibility, and makes us worse people.

Shame is a more primitive emotion than guilt. Guilt is a more sophisticated emotion that involves more complex thinking and problem solving.

With guilt, we feel bad about something that we’ve done. With shame, we feel bad about who we are.  So let’s get to the practical point if this…

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: THE LOST CITY OF KUELAP

rh-at-kuelap 10,000 feet high in the Amazon cloud forests of northern Peru is a mysterious lost city built by an unknown people many centuries before the Incas existed. Known as Kuelap by villagers in the lowlands below, the Incas called the people who built it Chachapoyas, “Cloud Warriors.” I led an expedition here in 1994, climbing high up into the Amazon Andes to come upon gigantic stone walls 60 feet high surrounding hundreds of stone structures. Here you see Rebel among them. We’ll be here again in a year or two in another exploration of Peru. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #153, photo ©Jack Wheeler)

A LOO WITH A VIEW

sabratha-bathroom While exploring the Roman ruins of Sabratha on the Mediterranean coast of Libya in 2014, I came upon the men’s bathroom in the Gymnasium. “Now here’s a loo with a view!” I exclaimed, and noticed it was designed to have water flowing through the trough below the series of toilets.

Founded as a trading post by the Phoenicians in the 6th century BC, it was settled and rebuilt by the Romans some 500 years later, flourishing for centuries as a main supplier of olive oil for the Empire. Monumental temples and theatres were constructed, along with sumptuous villas adorned with gorgeous mosaic floors. All of this has been excavated for the visitor to explore as a preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It’s a shame Libya has collapsed into chaos now, for Sabratha and nearby Leptis Magna are among the most magnificent Roman ruins anywhere. One day the chaos will be over. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #246 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

THE WORLD’S MOST UNUSUAL GRAVES

toraja-gravesiteEast of Borneo in Indonesia is a large starfish-shaped Island called Sulawesi, where in the south-central mountains the Toraja people have created one of the most exotic cultures on earth. They bury their dead in caves carved out of vertical cliffs, with balconies at the entrances lined with clothed wooden effigies called a Tau Tau as guardians for the departed.

The Toraja live in villages composed of family long houses with enormous peaked roofs of wood and thatch, decorated with exquisite painted art and scores of buffalo horns. While Indonesia is predominantly Moslem, the Toraja are a blend of Christian-animist. They are a gentle, peaceful people, marvelously welcoming and friendly. It is a priceless privilege to spend time with them, as I was able to during the summer of 2016. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #49 Photo ©Jack Wheeler)

THE MATTERHORN OF THE HIMALAYAS

©2019 Jack Wheeler This is Ama Dablam – “Mother’s Necklace” in Sanskrit – famed by climbers and trekkers as the Matterhorn of the Himalayas. Standing 22,349 ft, the favored climbing route is the southwest ridge, which you’re looking at face on. It towers as sentinel above the Tengboche Monastery of Nyingma (Red Hat) Tibetan Buddhism, and the famous trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC).

We were at EBC this morning, and shortly later flew by Ama Dablam in our expedition AS350B3 helicopter at 20,000 ft. It is from this altitude you can see the summit of Everest. And yes, that’s Everest on the left of the photo. In the shadow is Everest’s southwest face, in the sun the east face, the southeast ridge between them is the climber’s route to the summit. Breathtaking only begins to hint of what it is like to experience such a sight. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #202 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

THE BARBARY APES OF GIBRALTAR

These are the only wild monkeys in the entire continent of Europe. Originally from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and named for Moroccan Berbers, they stowed away on various ships of Portuguese, Spanish, and Arabs centuries ago and made themselves at home on the Rock of Gibraltar.

Although locally called apes as they are tailless, they are a kind of monkey called a macaque. There are some 300 living on the Upper Rock today in five “troops.” Originally looked after by the British Army under an Officer of the Apes, their health and population is now managed by the Gibraltar Veterinary Clinic.

They stay contentedly up on the Rock and are rarely seen down in the town below. You can approach them and seem to love to pose for photos, but don’t get too close. These are wild critters and may bite if alarmed. With that caution, you’ll have no problem, and enjoy being around them. One more thing that makes a visit to the Rock of Gibraltar so fascinating. POTTY-POOT

potty-pootA Czech activist group is auctioning a sculpture of Russian President Vladimir Putin sitting naked on a golden toilet — with proceeds from the sale set to go toward buying a combat drone for Ukraine.

Although the effigy is named “Naked Killer,” everyone in Prague has nicknamed it – given President George Bush calling Putin “Pooty-Poot” – Potty-Poot. It’s the brainchild of Otakar van Gemund, founder of the Kaputin! movement in Prague, and is designed by Czech artist Barbora Zichová. Bids start at €10,000 with the auction closing on December 20. The winner will be the proud owner of the effigy, and have a combat drone named in his honor used to eliminate a group of Potty-Poot’s cannon fodder.

SKYE’S LINKS 12/01/22

online-networkNarrative Control.

It's All They Have.

And They Will Fight to Keep It.

This week we look at a number of links that appear disconnected at first but, upon a deeper examination, reveal the struggle between the forces to create and control the single world narrative on everything, and the centripetal forces pulling it all apart.

Testimony to Congress has shown that our government was really just winging it during Covid. There was little science but a lot of bureaucratic turfism and careerism. The result was widespread economic destruction, personal losses that will never be recovered, and trauma to children that will last their lifetimes. Careerism among our elites is laid bare for all to see.

Elon Musk has bet his fortune that centralized narrative control is failing as institutions from Washington to Beijing to the corporate campus are found to be inauthentic and residing on a throne of lies.

The Fourth Turning might very well turn out to be a global struggle for authenticity.

WILL THE BRUNSON BROTHERS SAVE AMERICA?

the-brunson-brothersThis is going to blow your mind.  Please be sitting down in your most comfortable chair, relax, breathe deeply, and have your favorite adult beverage at the ready – just sip between paragraphs or you might lose it.

The four Brunson Brothers all play the trumpet, and have a recording studio, Rock Canyon Studios, in Provo, Utah.  Deron, however, is also a lawyer, a very smart lawyer who has cases heard in the Supreme Court.  He recently initiated a lawsuit now stuck in Federal Court, with his brother Loy as the Claimant.

So Deron filed the suit again with Raland as the Claimant, filing it as Brunson v. Alma S. Adams; et al. in Utah 2nd District Federal Court on June 21, 2021.

And who are the Defendants in addition to Alma Adams?  385 Members of Congress (of whom Adams is one), plus Mike Pence, Kamala Harris, and Joseph Robinette Biden.

On what grounds?

HELP STOP A GENOCIDE

Sometimes things are very simple.  If you can easily do something to halt a genocide, then you should.

The First Holodomor, the genocidal starvation by Josef Stalin of millions of Ukrainians 90 years ago, was kept hidden from the world for many decades.  The Second Holodomor, now being attempted by Vladimir Putin, is in the open for all the world to see.

The notion that Ukraine does not exist, that its state is artificial and its national consciousness a confusion -- this Putinist rhetoric is genocidal.  Moscow’s claims that Ukrainians are all Nazis or gays or Jews or Satanists (the current line) is nothing more than a fascist politics of us-and-them: the enemy is defined via hate speech as subhuman, as beyond any ethical concern, existing only to be destroyed.

The Russian intention in Ukraine has been genocidal from the beginning.

THE SCENT OF ANTI-CHICOM REVOLUTION IN THE AIR

The huge protests engulfing China right now against lockdowns have left a lot of people wondering if these are just protests.  The size, scope, vehemence, and fearlessness of the Chinese public against their very oppressive communist masters has made them appear to be a mass movement.

This photo report from the Sunday Mail (11/27) is quite extraordinary. Protests have engulfed at least seven major Chinese cities -- Nanjing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Urumqi, Zhengzhou, and others, all against COVID lockdowns, with the big one going on in Shanghai, where the locals are openly demanding the ouster of China's supreme leader, Xi Jinping.

When a billion-strong nation rises up on a cause that has unified them such as this, there's clearly the scent of revolution in the air.

BIDEN MUTE AS PROTESTS DEMAND FREEDOM AROUND THE WORLD

joe-mute-fighterWhat does the United States stand for? With Joe Biden in the White House, absolutely nothing.

Apparently, we don’t stand for freedom. As brave citizens in China desperately protest that country’s heinous lockdowns and censorship, a spokesman for the Biden administration says that the White House is “going to watch this closely.”

We don’t stand with women’s rights. Violent and widespread protests in Iran over the killing of a young woman arrested for not wearing a hijab haveresulted in hundreds of deaths. All Joe can do is mumble about “standing in solidarity” with the protestors.

Yes, the Biden administration has stood up to Russia after Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked and despicable invasion of Ukraine. But, only to a point. Heaven forbid we actually declare an intention to help Ukraine win the war – a goal never once expressed by our president.
