WHAT’S SO ESSENTIAL ABOUT VITAMINS AND MINERALS?
We’ve been looking at the nutritional components humans need to survive. These are usually listed as Proteins, Fats, and Carbs, but I’ll repeat a more accurate description that I posted two weeks ago (in no order of priority – they are all essential):
Vitamins (essential)
Minerals
Amino Acids: to build Proteins (long chains) and Peptides (short chains)
Lipids: Fats (solid at room temp) and Oils (liquid at room temp)
ATP: adenosine triphosphate (universal energy molecule)
Carbohydrates
We started with vitamins and minerals first because they are the simplest need to fill. Durk and Sandy’s lifework was developing formulas that would ensure that humans could thrive in spite of the reduced quality of our food, produced with shipping and shelf life in mind rather than nutritional content. High quality supplements can effectively meet our needs for essential vitamins and minerals.
About that “essential” categorization. All my life I’ve heard that essential vitamins are those that cannot be manufactured by our bodies – and I never once asked what were the other vitamins that weren’t essential? Today I finally posed that question.
