ARONOFSKY’S NOAH DESERVES AN OSCAR FOR BEST COMEDY OF THE YEAR

I just saw Noah. The film is a remarkable display of special effects. It is also one of the funniest comedies I have seen in a very long time.

Aronofsky deserves a great deal of praise for turning a serious subject into a non-stop laugh fest of techno-electro music, orchestral scores, blasting special effects, and even rock monsters.

The ad campaign tried to ease Christians' nerves that all would be well, artistic license was taken, but the movie would be faithful to the story. If they hadn't tried to con Christians into the movie, I wouldn't have a problem. It was a pretty awesome sci-fi spectacle complete with Ent-like rock monsters, a super-powered Methuselah, Adam and Eve as glow in the dark space aliens, and Hermione Granger.

I am not kidding.

CHINA IS A SERIOUS COUNTRY — AMERICA IS NOT

Shanghai. The loudest people on the planet are Chinese. The most obnoxious sound you've ever heard is that of a Chinese man spitting - which they do often and everywhere. The most evil mass murderer in human history is worshipped as a demi-god by countless Chinese. His picture is on every denomination of Chinese currency.

The list of Chinese negatives is very long. And they are all irrelevant. They are all overridden by one single fact: that China is a serious country and the Chinese are a serious people - while America and Americans are not.

There is almost no way to describe the massiveness and ubiquity of the construction going on in hundreds of cities. Gigantic apartment complexes are springing up everywhere. Bullet trains going 200mph with amazingly smooth rides over railroads that go everywhere. Superhighways are the same. There must be at least two or three dozen airlines that fly to hundreds of cities. Three of them just placed an order for 68 A320s worth $6.75 billion - European Airbuses instead of Boeings as a slap in Zero's face.

This same massive, purposeful, determined energy is being channeled into China's military. The Chinese will have a full-on blue water navy within a few years. They are focused on aircraft carrier-sinking cruise missiles, communication satellite-destroying ballistic missiles, undersea cable-slicing deep water robots, and of course, incapacitating our entire computer-based economy and military via hacking.

The Chinese are different from us in many ways. They operate under a different set of moral rules and proscriptions. But one thing the Chinese are not is stupid. Another thing they are not is apologetic and unconfident.

China today is a competitor of America's unlike any we have ever faced. It is deadly - literally deadly - serious, and deadly smart. Really smart. China is becoming more serious, more confident, and more educated-smart by the day - while we are becoming the opposite of all three, by the day.

THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS

I want to wish you the Merriest of Christmases this Saturday, but according to the song, the First Day of Christmas is the day after Christmas, December 26.

Ancient Christians celebrated "The Holidays," as our militant secularists insist on referring to them now, starting with the day after the birth of Jesus and ending on January 6^th with the visit of the Magi in Matthew 2:11 known as the Epiphany. Start with 12/26 and end with 1/6 and you get: the Twelve Days of Christmas.

You may be really tired of hearing Christmas songs by now, including this one, yet you may still be wondering what the heck partridges in a pear tree and eight maids a-milking have to do with the birth of the founder of Christianity.

So I thought we might take a break from Serious Thoughts About World Events, and take a look at the song's origin, meaning, and current urban myth. For it turns out that all of the song's twelve gifts are Christian symbols.

The streets are frozen solid here in Washington, its dangerous to even walk to the Metro much less drive around, and I am having so much fun. It's a tossup over what's more hilarious, the global warming freaks in Congress having to cancel a hearing about how we're all going to fry because of snow blizzards and freezing rain, or the talking news heads endlessly blathering about Anna Nicole.

Most fun of all though is how GW is leading Pelosi Galore right down Primrose Lane - right this way, Nancy.

First he gets her to waste enormous amounts of time in full public view trying to get an impossibly stupid "non-binding" resolution devoid of meaning that has outraged her radical left hate-America base - because they want her to spend her time on defunding the war.

Now that she's making an empty fool of herself to normal voters and infuriating her most fervent supporters at the same time, Bush gets her into a frothing tizzy over Iran. "The President has no authority to go into Iran," she hyperventilates, thinking that GW is about to land the Marines at Bandar Abbas, seize the Iranian oil fields, bomb the nuke facilities into radioactive rubble, and plunge the world into genocidal chaos.

The lady is being played like a Stradivarius, and she doesn't even know it. She's oblivious! This is a thing of sheer beauty. It can snow and freeze all it wants. I'm enjoying the view.

"Murder In The Air" was the cover of Newsweek when the Kremlin shot down Korean Air 007 on Sept. 1, 1983. To this day, the Kremlin has never apologized for what Reagan termed "the savagery of their crime against humanity."

Sound familiar? This morning we learned that there are recordings of pro-Russian separatists talking with a Russian GRU (military intel) colonel about their shooting down the Malaysian airliner yesterday (7/17), and that they have recovered the airliner's black box and sent it to Moscow. Putin Huilo promptly blamed Ukraine for the atrocity - while refusing to deny his mercenaries in Ukraine did it. Indeed, he denies any of his total sponsorship of the "rebellion" in eastern Ukraine.

The fallout of the MH17 shootdown is that Russia economically and Putin Huilo politically are both seriously screwed...

... But when, we ask, will Zero be screwed? On Monday, the liberal paper of Capitol Hill, The Hill, helpfully answered in a story headlined: Obama The Pariah. Yet to realize just how much a pariah Zero has become, there's the feel-good story of the week, that of Peggy Joseph...

... The HFR gives three cheers for three countries this week. First is, believe it or not, for France!

HOW THE GOP CAN REPLACE THE OBAMA MALAISE

What is the Republican Party's vision for America? You may have a hard time answering other than "not President Obama and his policies."

Most Republicans plan to run their fall campaigns focusing on the Obama scandals -- admittedly a target-rich area -- with scandals involving Obamacare, Benghazi, the Internal Revenue Service and Veterans Affairs. All of this is not a vision of the future, though.

It is hard to build a consensus -- but smart, strong-minded individuals in the past have been able to articulate a vision that attracted not only the public but other politicians. Ronald Reagan accomplished this, and he was fortunate to have a visionary economic evangelist by his side who helped shape much of the Reagan program and became its principal salesman.

The GOP needs this man's vision and passion to end the Malaise of Obama.

SURVIVING OBAMA

Bloomberg columnist Jeffrey Goldberg minced few words in discussing the interview that US President Barack Hussein Obama gave him on the eve of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's latest visit to Washington.

Speaking with journalist Charlie Rose, Goldberg equated Obama's threat to stop supporting Israel in international forums to the talk of a mafia don. Obama told Goldberg that if Israel doesn't cut a deal with the Palestinians soon, "our ability to manage the international fallout is going to be limited." He added, "And that has consequences."

Obama's statement, Goldberg noted, was a "veiled threat" and "almost up there with, ‘Nice little Jewish state you've got there. Hate to see something happen to it.'" Goldberg saw the interview as Obama's way of showing that he is beginning to abandon the pretense of supporting Israel, now that he no longer faces reelection. In Goldberg's words, "It's not that the gloves are coming off. It's more that the mask of diplomatic language is coming off."

Now that he no longer has to concern himself with the wishes of the American public and its representatives in Congress, Obama has dropped the mask of opposition to Iran and forged ahead with a diplomatic process that all but ensures Iran will acquire nuclear weapons.

So what can Israel do? Well, here is Priority #1: Israel needs to directly attack Iran's nuclear installations - by covert action as well as through overt military strikes, as required. And Obama be damned.

MY FAVORITE MUSEUM

My wife and I spent much of the summer in our favorite museum. It's called Europe. Not a museum in Europe, but Europe itself.

Since America is an island, Americans tend to be insular and consider their problems to be the world's best. But it is not so.

For Americans, the rest of the world is thousands of miles away across the Pacific or Atlantic, while Canada is that cold place far to the north where they say "eh" all the time, while Mexico is that sweltering place all the illegals come from - hence Americans see their country as a giant isolated island. A separate universe.

When things are going good, we think there's no place better - a perspective for which there is justification. When things are going bad, we think no place on earth is going to hell in a handbasket faster. We consider Zero to be such a horrendous disaster because we've never been deranged enough to engage in electoral masochism before.

This is a first for us - but for much of the rest of the world, it's the norm. Masochism, in the form of people accepting subjugation from thugs who declared themselves chiefs, kings, and emperors, has been the political way of life for most of human history. We view America as "the exceptional nation" because it is the exception to this history.

Our cultural progenitor enabling this exception was Europe. Now that Europe is regressing, our fear is that we are too. But fear is a waste of time. Unless we use fear to assess the extent of actual danger, we'll just wallow in it and not rationally act to get rid of what we're scared of.

So a glance at Europe could be helpful to see where it's fallen into the masochistic mire so we can avoid doing so.

THE COUNTRY THAT DOES EXIST

Berbera, Somaliland. I originally called this place the country that doesn't exist, because no other country in the world will diplomatically recognize it as a sovereign nation even though it's been so for 20 years.

Nonetheless, this is a real country with a sovereign functioning government. This is no pariah-outlaw state. That's Somalia, the truly non-existent failed state that Somaliland seceded from. The story of Somaliland is a heroic saga, epically inspirational. Let me tell you the story.

Obama Huilo!

I had to save this for the HFR instead of shoehorning it in to Putin Huilo! on Wednesday.

And yes he is. He is not just a "hapless putz" as Andrew Klaman claims. The Obamahuilo is opening the floodgates of our border with Mexico on purpose - the purpose being revenge and spite. He wants TB and other diseases brought by illegals to spread.

He wants to do damage to us more than ever, now that Americans have proved themselves not worthy of him, in having the inexcusably immoral temerity to think he's the worst US president rather than the best.

As a pathological narcissist, his rejection by the American people is proof they need to be punished for not recognizing his magnificence. As Clint Eastwood put it:

Even Dems agree, sensing public outrage over Zero's "Katrina Moment." Dem Congresscritters don't get more libtard partisan than Steny Hoyer, but even he's saying deport the illegals: "The US cannot be expected to give sanctuary to every single child in the world."

So let's start making this crisis into an opportunity.

DO YOU WANT MORE GOVERNMENT OR MORE PROSPERITY?

Do you think there would be more jobs, less poverty and higher real incomes if government was 60 percent or 18 percent of gross domestic product?

Fortunately, a global economic-growth experiment has been underway for more than a half-century. Some countries have opted for the big-government model, others for the small-government model. Based on the data, the small-government crowd wins.

Periodically, as new data becomes available, I revisit the topic of how big or small government should be. Many on the left in the United States want a big government like they have in France, which they think will be fairer and provide better services.

There are success metrics, such as real per-capita incomes, economic growth, job-creation rates and life expectancy to give us a good indication of what works and does not work.

This table gives us recent data about how well 10 rich countries are doing:

You may have seen the headlines that yesterday (3/05) at the CPAC conference in Washington, I called for the abolishment of the Internal Revenue Service. It's true. I said "The IRS should go the way of the dodo."

The IRS is currently considering new rules to limit the free speech of the very same groups it illegally targeted. In short, the Obama Administration is trying to do through regulatory fiat what it was unable to legally do before: limit the First Amendment rights of Americans.

Below is the letter I sent to Attorney General Eric Holder calling for a special prosecutor to investigate IRS's illegal targeting of conservative groups.

My speech at CPAC was entitled How We Win. I explained that "If you want to lose elections, stand for nothing."

By contrast, you win elections by standing for principles and believing that there is a better tomorrow.

How do we inspire people? Number one we tell the truth.... The truth is Washington is corrupt. As more and more people make great wealth in Washington, young people, single moms, and small business owners suffer. Real change is changing the corruption that is here in Washington, D.C.

HOW DO WE FIX AMERICA?

I must admit that I was prepared to be skeptical when I started reading Mark Levin's The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic. Our country's problem is not the Constitution, it's a government that disobeys it, that uses every method of fascist trickery to distort and get around it.

The solution, I thought, is to somehow force the federalies to stop being outlaws - for that's what we have now, an illegitimate outlaw government - and start obeying the Constitution we already have, instead of changing it.

America was blessed at its inception with a founding legal structure that has never been surpassed in history up to the present day for enabling the flourishing of its citizenry while preventing tyranny. Its distortion and corruption by all four branches of the federal government - executive, legislative, judicial, and bureaucratic - is what needs to be fixed, not the structure itself.

Now, after I read the book, I must admit that Levin is a persuasive guy. Not convincing, but certainly persuasive. Let's talk about where he hits the target, where he misses, and to what extent - if any - does he explain how we fix America.
