PUTTING JOE BIDEN’S LEGACY IN THE DUSTBIN OF HISTORY

‘Twas the night before Christmas and…you know the drill. Since it is Christmas tomorrow and we are only three weeks away from booting Joe Biden and the Democrats out of power.

It’s time to get the professional cleaners to come out and remove the stench of what they’ve done over the last four years. The budget and the country need a deep, deep cleaning to remove what it is they’ve done, then we need to resolve to never allow it to happen again.

Joe Biden’s legacy is disgraceful. May his last memory be one of realizing the American people rejected him and what he’d done, overwhelmingly favoring his opponent from 2020 over his protégé.

It's time to get serious. How many billions of the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act” have yet to be spent? Or is it trillions? Stop anything left. In fact, repeal the whole furshlugginer thing. There are literally trillions in “green” subsidies that monstrosity obligates the federal government to spend over the coming year, according to the Cato Institute.  Kill it, kill it now.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY – CANNIBAL TREEHOUSE

cannibal-treehouseAugust 1977. High in the mountains above the source of the April River, a tributary of the Sepik in Papua New Guinea, I had a First Contact with an undiscovered tribe calling themselves the Wali-ali-fo. They ate “man long pig,” cooked human meat and lived in thatch dwelling built up in trees. Here I am in one with my Sepik guide Peter who got me here.

Peter translated a description of their practice: “When a man dies, we take a pig to his wife and exchange it for the body of the man. We take the body out into the forest and…cook ‘im eat ‘im. We do this so the man will continue to live in the bodies of his friends.”

Not something we’ll do but something we can understand, yes? These are people we could laugh and joke with, tell stories with, enjoy being with. A very different culture, but human all the same. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #148 Photo ©Jack Wheeler)

THE MATTERHORN OF THE HIMALAYAS

©2019 Jack WheelerThis is Ama Dablam – “Mother’s Necklace” in Sanskrit – famed by climbers and trekkers as the Matterhorn of the Himalayas. Standing 22,349 ft, the favored climbing route is the southwest ridge, which you’re looking at face on. It towers as sentinel above the Tengboche Monastery of Nyingma (Red Hat) Tibetan Buddhism, and the famous trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC).

We were at EBC this morning, and shortly later flew by Ama Dablam in our expedition AS350B3 helicopter at 20,000 ft. It is from this altitude you can see the summit of Everest. And yes, that’s Everest on the left of the photo. In the shadow is Everest’s southwest face, in the sun the east face, the southeast ridge between them is the climber’s route to the summit. Breathtaking only begins to hint of what it is like to experience such a sight. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #202 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

A CUP OF YAK BUTTER TEA IN A TIBETAN NOMAD TENT

yak-butter-tea At 14,000 feet, Tibetan nomads called Drogpa set their summer encampment for their yak herds to graze on green pastures. You find them with difficulty in the remote Himalayan highlands of the Kingdom of Lo. They are happy to welcome you into their home, a single large tent of black yak wool, and serve you a cup of delicious yak butter tea.

It is a rare privilege to be with these people and experience their ancient way of life. It is something we strive to do on our Himalaya Helicopter Expeditions. I took this picture in May. Here is their home from the outside. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #203 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

THE CASTLE PRISON OF RICHARD THE LIONHEART

durnstein-castleThis is Durnstein Castle, perched on a precipice high above the Danube River in Austria some 60 miles upriver from Vienna. Built in the early 1100s, here is where King of England Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned, having been captured by his enemy Leopold V of Austria on his return from the Third Crusade in the Holy Land.

The story is well known of how Richard’s brother John had usurped the throne and impeded paying Richard’s ransom – and the legend of Robin Hood raising the money pilfering it from thieving nobles. The ransom was finally paid in 1194, with Richard returning to be crowned King of England once again. The castle fell into disrepair, uninhabitable since the late 1600s. It is an eerie journey back into history to explore it today. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #197 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

HALF-FULL REPORT 12/20/24

Welcome to the Christmas 2024 HFR!  And to the Hanukkah 2024!  Yes, they coincide on December 25 this year (when the latter begins).  This is a glorious time of celebration for all the bountiful blessings of Western Civilization – and this year the cup of those blessings is overflowing.

So much so that the 2024 calendar grants us a head start of a full three-day weekend before Christmas Eve – meaning we can begin right now to exult in Christmas joy and gratitude.

“We” means you and me.  Maybe not for a lot of folks in Washington DC.  Certainly not for illegals trying to cross our border in Texas.  As we await events unfolding on Capitol Hill later today, we’ll start with them.  A lot more, so here we go!

THE CHINESE PROOF OF VERY STABLE GENIUS

proof-of-stable-genius[This Monday’s Archive was originally published on March 30, 2018. It celebrated how T45 was proving he really was a “very stable genius” as he was goaded into saying by the media. The caveats in the article also apply regarding Norway anointing him a Nobel Peace Laureate that year. Yet Trump triumphed the next year when Trump Meets Kim Jong Un, Becomes First Sitting U.S. President To Step Into North Korea (June 30, 2019). Then came Covid, the 2020 Dem theft of his presidency, Putin invading Ukraine and now has Nork soldiers dying like flies in Kursk.

T47 has invited Xi as his guest for the J20 Inauguration. It’s his first overture. There will be others, brilliant ones. He and his advisors want to remove Russia as a continuing treat to the West so they can focus on the real issue of contending with China. Before long, the Norwegian Nobel Committee may have no choice but T47, anymore than TIME had in choosing him as their 2024 most influential person in the world.]

TTP, March 30, 2018

As you know, the Trump Deranged Media never tire of ridiculing our POTUS for this Tweet of his last January after being goaded by them in suggesting he was like Ronald Reagan in his last days with Alzheimer’s. He took the bait:

smart-and-stable-trumpstable-genius

As if we didn’t have proof of this before, the proof is in this picture above, published by the official government news agency of Communist China, Xinhua, ereyesterday, March 28 – and in the article accompanying it: Xi Jinping, Kim Jong-Un Hold Talks in Beijing.”

You’re welcome to wade through it with all the Orwellian Commie-speak, but here’s the money quote:

Kim said: "The DPRK is willing to have dialogue with the United States and hold a summit of the two countries. The issue of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula can be resolved, if South Korea and the United States respond to our efforts with goodwill, create an atmosphere of peace and stability while taking progressive and synchronous measures for the realization of peace."
Is there any sentient being who can’t see that this is the doing solely and completely of POTUS-VSG Trump? Okay, libtards driven wacko with Trump Hatred are excluded from being sentient.

THE PHENOMENON OF TRUMP REBORN

President-elect Donald Trump’s most striking characteristics today are clarity, confidence, and calm. This is extraordinary in a man renowned for chaos, confusion, and the thin-skinned hurling of demeaning insults.

But it is a truth that needs to be acknowledged and accounted for to understand what we are witnessing as Trump prepares to resume the presidency.

Van Jones, one of the Left’s level-headed analysts, captured the truth lucidly in an interview with CNN’s Chris Cillizza. When Cillizza asked Jones how such a supposedly unlikely guy as Trump “became the one that cracked the code,” Jones rejected the premise of the question.

“Can we cut it out? … Donald Trump is smarter than me, you, and all critics. You know how we know?

Because he has the White House, the Senate, the House, the Supreme Court, the popular vote, he has a massive media ecosystem bigger than the mainstream built around him and for him, and a religious fervor in a political movement around him, and his best buddy is the richest person in the history of the world, and the most relevant Kennedy is with him.

This dude is a phenomenon. He is the most powerful human on Earth in our lifetime. And we’re still saying, ‘How is this guy doing it?’ We look like idiots.”

A TSUNAMI OF EXECUTIVE ORDERS THAT’S THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG

How’s that for a mixed metaphor?  You do know that when a gigantic fracture of a massive glacier calves off creating an iceberg, the wave it creates splashing into the ocean is so huge it can seem like a tsunami overwhelming any small craft nearby, right? Okay, here we go.

An important feature of Trump’s second term will be his actions on the first day. Trump will sign a flurry of executive orders (EOs) on the day he is sworn in (January 20, 2025) and the following day. The exact number is not known but it will easily be 50 orders or more.

Trump’s executive orders have already been drafted for the most part. Some are still undergoing legal review, some are being tweaked from a policy perspective, and some are being debated internally as to whether they should even go forward. Some EOs may be pulled from the pile if counsel decides that legislation is required to achieve the intended purpose.

Each EO is presented to the president in a separate blue leather binder with the Seal of the President of the United States stamped in gold on the cover.

Each EO is signed with a different pen and then the pens are handed out to supporters of the President as gifts. Now you can visualize Trump sitting at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office signing away on EOs to reinstate Trump policies, establish new policies and abolish as many of Biden’s policies as possible.

The best quick guide to Trump’s first 100 days is to consider the EOs he will sign on Day One of his second term. Here’s a summary broken out by policy area:

IT’S NOT ENOUGH TO DISMANTLE THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

No normal parent wants a school with teachers like this for their children.

President Trump proposes to dismantle the federal Department of Education and return education policy to the states. That will certainly be a good move, as the federal DOE has been a key promoter of the woke component of the education establishment, but this action will not of itself restore vitality to the institution of public education in our nation.

Michael Petrilli, president of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, writes: “Dismantling the Department of Education won’t make any measurable difference in educational outcomes... If you want real transformation, fight the elected school boards, defang the unions, and create alternatives to the ed schools.”

We must understand that, operating at the state level, there are other promoters of wokeness in education. Every state has several such woke promoters, including (1) its own state DOE, (2) its own state teachers’ union, (3) its own colleges and universities with their own Departments and professors of Education, and (4) its own woke culture shared by its teachers and administrators.

Each of these four agencies of influence operates in its own ways and means to bring its influence to bear in its own theatre of operation.

TRUMP BLOWS UP “RIDICULOUS” FEDERAL SPENDING DEAL AS SHUTDOWN LOOMS

kill-the-bill Yesterday (12/17), House Republican leaders were struggling to cobble together support within their party for a bipartisan stopgap federal spending bill on when, last night at 9:28pm, President-elect Donald Trump weighed in hard against it and imploded the deal.

In a joint statement on X (full text below) with Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, Mr. Trump trashed the 1,500-plus-page legislation that would fund the government until March 14.

The two men called on Republican leaders to reject it and renegotiate a “clean” measure with Democrats that would eliminate a trove of spending and policy extras.

Congress, now back to the drawing board, faces a Friday deadline to pass a stopgap bill to keep the federal government from shuttering.

“Republicans must get smart and tough. If Democrats threaten to shut down the government unless we give them everything they want, THEN CALL THEIR BLUFF,” Mr. Trump and Mr. Vance posted, with several words capitalized for Trumpian emphasis.

ELON MUSK BELIEVES BRITAIN IS IN VERY DEEP TROUBLE

Nigel (R) with Musk and Reform Treasurer Nick Candy at Mar-A-Lago (12/16)
Nigel (R) with Musk and Reform Treasurer Nick Candy at Mar-A-Lago (12/16)

[Nigel Farage is the founder-leader of Britain’s Reform UK Party, which he represents as an MP (Member of Parliament) in the House of Commons.  Britain will soon no longer be a two-party Uniparty between Conservative and Labor.  The former did such an awful job under a succession of ridiculous Prime Ministers after jettisoning Boris Johnson, the Brits promptly jumped from the Tory frying pan into the catastrophically Woke Marxist fire of Labor.  Not long ago it would be laughably delusional among Brits that Reform would supplant the Tories and Farage be Prime Minister.  No laughing anymore.

This is a front page essay by Farage in today’s (12/18) London Telegraph, paired with a front-page news report: “Musk Ready To Bankroll Farage With ‘Biggest Donation In British Political History’.” Read them both and you’ll see why Farage may well transform the UK as Trump is doing to the US, both enabled by Elon.]

A Monday afternoon (12/16) visit to Mar-a-Lago, and boy was it busy. Throughout the day, the world’s biggest tech giants were queuing up to meet Donald Trump, from Kris Marszalek, the head of Crypto.com, to Shou Zi Chew, the chief executive of TikTok.

This transition period was nothing like what I saw in 2016: there is a sense of order, determined calm and above all optimism. Trump’s personal ratings continue to rise in a way that’s not been seen before in an incoming president. And is it any wonder?

This is just one example of the atmosphere in Mar-a-Lago and the increasing aura around President Trump himself. It is no exaggeration to say that there is real excitement in the air and no one doubts that, by the date of the inauguration on Jan 20, the Trump administration is going to hit the ground running.

All of this is in such marked contrast to the doom, gloom and misery that is all-pervading in the United Kingdom at the moment.

KEEPING UKRAINE OUT OF NATO WILL NOT ADVANCE PEACE WITH RUSSIA

Moscow believes that NATO will not accept Ukraine as a member as long as Russia wages war against it and wants the West to exclude Ukraine from NATO in exchange for “peace” with Russia.

Some NATO states are tentatively considering “coalitions-of-the-willing” to provide security for Ukraine outside NATO’s framework. Such suggestions have proven stillborn, there being no substitute for NATO collective guarantees of Ukraine’s government-controlled territory,

Thus, awaiting a “peace settlement” with Russia before accepting Ukraine into NATO would encourage Moscow to continue the war indefinitely. The alliance would need, however, to nail down security guarantees for and with Ukraine in advance of any negotiations with Russia.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: GOLD-PLATED LAUGHTER WITH AN UZBEK LADY

glimpse252_picIn Bukhara, Uzbekistan, I didn’t speak Uzbek and she didn’t speak English, yet laughter is the true universal language.

She gave me a broad smile to display her gold-plated teeth. You don’t often see someone with teeth of gold, but she says what better way to protect your teeth when you’re getting old? The Uzbek people of Central Asia have a wonderful sense of humor. Come with me to Central Asia this September to laugh with these Silk Road people yourself.
