IS TRUMP CAUSING CHINA LEADER XI’S GRIP ON POWER TO WEAKEN?

trump-jinpingA spate of unusual reports in Hong Kong and overseas Chinese-language media lend credence to the idea that, while Xi Jinping remains China’s undisputed paramount, his authority seems diminished.

A moratorium of sorts appears to have been called on the relentless personality cult constructed around Xi, while signs have emerged that China’s economic policymaking apparatus has been hamstrung by disagreements between Xi and his top economic policymaker over how to handle a deepening trade war with the United States.

Stories about political troubles befalling Xi could be exaggerated. Xi recently completed a 10-day trip to Africa and the Middle East; it is unlikely he would have left the country for so long if his position were in imminent danger.

Further,  the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is unlikely to move against Xi after a massive reshuffle of its command-and-control apparatus in late 2015 and early 2016 that saw Xi install protégés in most of the PLA’s senior roles. (China Brief, October 20, 2017).

Nonetheless, while Xi’s status as top leader likely remains unchallenged, his authority—including his ability to make decisions on major political, economic and foreign-policy issues—seems impaired in recent weeks.   The primary cause of this impairment is US President Donald Trump.

RUSSIAN COLONIALISM REDUX

soviet-rule-in-africa[The Soviet Colonial Empire was the 20th century worldwide expansion of the 19th century Russian Colonial Empire. My friend of many years Paul Goble here shows how the murder of three Russian investigative journalists spotlights Putin’s attempt to create Russian colonies in Africa –JW.]

The Kremlin has seemingly taken another step to cover up the murders of three Russian journalists who were killed at the end of July in the Central African Republic (CAR), while investigating Moscow’s dispatch of weapons there.

Moscow has far more to hide in the CAR and is prepared to act quickly and harshly to make sure those secrets stay hidden. All along, the Russian government has vociferously denied any involvement in the widely publicized murders of the three journalists, Orkhan Dzhemal, Aleksandr Rastorguev and Kirill Radchenko.

Russia has announced it had opened its own “investigation” into the deadly incident. At the same time, however, officials and Russian analysts have gone out of their way to deny that Russians in the CAR were in any way responsible for the reporters’ deaths or that Moscow was acting covertly to undermine what stability there is in that country or anywhere else in sub-Saharan Africa (see EDM, September 4).

The truth seems to be the opposite.

HALF-FULL REPORT 09/28/18

believe-in-somethingJack Wheeler asked me to fill in for him on the HFR this week. What a week it’s been!

After yet another stunt by the despicables, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted, 11-10, this afternoon (9/28) to send to the Senate floor the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court.

There was to have been a cloture vote Monday, a confirmation vote Tuesday (10/2).

But late today, President Trump ordered the FBI to conduct a supplemental investigation to update the file on Judge Kavanaugh. The investigation is to be limited to current allegations, and completed in less than a week.

The president issued the order because Sen. Jeff Flake requested it at the Judiciary Committee hearing today.

Flake caused hearts to flutter when he said he might vote against Kavanaugh unless there is another one week delay for the FBI to investigate. But this was largely kabuki.  Here’s what’s going on behind the curtain.

PERSIAN HOPE

Fresco of a Persian woman, Ali Qapu Palace, Isfahan, early 1600s – JW photo

Shiraz, Iran.  “Where are you from?” the Iranian man asked me.

With a big smile, I happily answered, “America.”  He responded with a smile of his own.  “Ah, America… America Number One!”

He hooked his two index fingers together.  “American people, Iranian people, good… friends.”  He unhooked his fingers and waved his hand in a gesture of contempt.  “Governments, no good.”  We both belly-laughed.

This took place in November of 2014, when our government meant the despised Obama to him.  It doesn’t mean that any longer. Iran is back in the news this week, with President Trump delivering a clear condemnation in his brilliant speech to the UN General Assembly Tuesday (9/25):

“We cannot allow the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism to possess the planet’s most dangerous weapons. We cannot allow a regime that chants “Death to America,” and that threatens Israel with annihilation, to possess the means to deliver a nuclear warhead to any city on Earth. Just can’t do it.

We ask all nations to isolate Iran’s regime as long as its aggression continues. And we ask all nations to support Iran’s people as they struggle to reclaim their religious and righteous destiny.”

Thus I am optimistic that there’s hope for Iran.  The long – two thousand five hundred year long – history of Persia and the West is what I call The Persian Ratchet.  An ebb and flow that ratchets up and down over the centuries.  I’ve appended a summary of this history at the end.  Note it includes why Persia had its name changed to Iran in 1935.

Note also that history comes after photos of mine that I’m sure you’ll enjoy.  For now, let’s talk about the Iranian people I met a little while ago, for it is they, not their government, that give me hope.

KAVANAUGH’S SHOT HEARD ROUND THE WORLD

kavanaugh-constitutionThe showdown between the fabulist Chrissy Ford and the righteous Brett Kavanaugh couldn't have come at a better time.

As we approach the crucial midterms -- which will decide whether the president has two more years in which to fulfill his restoration of the Republic, or be subjected to the likes of Spartacus Booker and Stolen Valor Blumenthal -- it laid bare the stark divisions in a country that seems to be coming apart.

On the one side, Mrs. Ford, a practitioner of "psychology," of a lesser form of Viennese Voodoo that masquerades as a social "science" and seems to channel folks in need of its services into the ranks of its purveyors.

The little-girl voice, the upturned question at the end of each reply, the absolute certainty about absolutely nothing -- this is the couch-riding Left at its most repellent.

On the other: Judge Kavanaugh, a man defending his life, his career, his reputation, his family, his faith, his future, and that of the country.

SOVEREIGNTY, PATRIOTISM, AND FREEDOM – AMERICA’S POLICY OF PRINCIPLED REALISM

waiting-to-speak-to-the-un
The President waiting to speak at the UN, Sept. 25, 2018

[Note by JW—This is the lecture the world leaders deserved to hear.  After the effrontery of laughing at first, then applauding when he took it in good humor, they sat there silently as Dad explained to the kids how it’s going to be.

The President’s speech is 35 minutes long, the text is 3,600 words.  It is worth reading entire, while the key quotes are in italics to quickly scan.  Watching his delivery is remarkable, calmly and dispassionately explaining to leaders of almost every country in the world how to deal with the most powerful nation on earth from now on.  This is a President every American patriot has dreamed of having since Ronald Reagan.  First the video, then the full text.  Watch and read with pride and joy.]

TRUMP’S TRIUMPH AT THE UN

triumph-at-the-unPresident Trump’s speech at the United Nations on Tuesday (9/25) is one of the greatest political speeches ever delivered in peacetime.

Barack Obama is reputed to be an impressive orator. But he never gave a speech that, in substance, could hold a candle to President Trump’s speeches at Warsaw, at Riyadh, before the joint session of Congress last year, or indeed his “rocket man” speech at the United Nations.

And this topped them all for forcefulness, clarity, and wisdom.  What, in the end, was this speech about? It was an elaboration of Trump’s chief foreign policy idea, “principled realism.”

“Realism” connotes an accurate and unsentimental appreciation of the metabolism of power. The “principles” in question involve an affirmation of who we are as a people, which turns on our affirmation of national sovereignty.

The President’s articulation of this simple, yet deep, idea is what lifted his speech out of the realm of pedestrian blather and marked it for the history books.  For now, however, we should pay attention to these key phrases in the President’s speech:

DONALD TRUMP BURIES THE OLD WORLD ORDER

trump-the-worldToday (9/25), President Trump is in New York, meeting world leaders attending the latest UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) gathering.  Tomorrow (9/26), he chairs the 15-member UN Security Council’s meeting on Iran.  Should be fun to watch.

The present continuance of institutions such as the EU, NATO, UN, and others suggests that the world goes on exactly as before.

In fact, these alphabet organizations are becoming shadows of their former selves, more trouble to end than to allow to grow irrelevant. The conditions that created them after the end of World War II, and subsequently sustained them even after the fall of the Berlin Wall, no longer really exist.

By 2016 Americans saw the postwar order as a sort of a naked global emperor, about whom all were ordered to lie that he was splendidly clothed.  Then came along the abrasive Donald Trump, who screamed that it was all pretense.  And he was right.

THE DEMOCRATS AND DEMOCRAT MEDIA HAVE DESTROYED THE #METOO MOVEMENT

kavanaugh-fightsIt’s been nearly a year since Ronan Farrow torpedoed the career of Harvey Weinstein, printing in The New Yorker a series of credible accusations that the Hollywood producer had sexually abused several women.

His piece touched off a firestorm that led to purges of incredibly powerful men in a variety of industries, finally forcing them to face consequences for their sexual misconduct.

Yesterday (9.24), though, Farrow and his colleague Jane Mayer did a huge disservice to the Me Too movement by publishing an incredibly thin sexual-abuse allegation against Brett Kavanaugh.  Critics by the boatload have condemned it, “Lazy at Best, Slimy at Worst.”

That story, a prime example of how some media outlets and left-wing voices have mishandled the accusations against the judge, will likely create a climate in which fewer victims are believed, more innocent men suffer for crimes they didn’t commit, and neutral observers are more inclined to doubt claims of sexual assault.

The political circus overwhelming the Kavanaugh confirmation will almost certainly weaken the Me Too movement in the long run by undermining its promise that the truth matters and that it will enable us to obtain justice.  It may already suffered a mortal wound.

GRASSLEY’S PERJURY TRAP TODAY?

kavanaugh-hearing-insanityAmericans now view the GOP more favorably than they do Democrats, according to this Gallup poll.  Which, Gallup notes, hasn’t happened often:

“The Republican Party’s favorability rating for the last decade (averaged) 39%, compared with the Democratic Party’s 44%.”

In most polls this year, more Democrats than Republicans have said they’re likely to vote in the midterm elections. But “voter enthusiasm” among Republicans is spiking, has “soared past” Dems in some battleground states.

“In some cases, we’re talking MAJOR gaps now, with the Rs on top,” says political analyst Larry Schweikart.

Pastor Bill Kent explains why: “We are willing to walk barefoot over broken glass and hot coals to vote GOP after this repulsive smear campaign by Democrats.”

Later today, we may know a lot more how this backlash will play out – if, as I suspect, Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley will spring a perjury trap on Chrissy Blasey Ford.

HALF-FULL REPORT 09/21/18

theyre-after-you So there you have it.  You can’t get clearer evidence of this than current Dem demagoguery with Brett Kavanaugh.  Dem dirtbags have no morality whatever as any normal person has.  All they care about is gaining power over you and me, and will commit any lying, cheating, stealing, and smearing it takes to get it.

But really – we all know this, which must include Republican Senators.  While the Dems are called the Evil Party for good reasons, it’s not true that the GOP is the Stupid Party, for no one can be that blind and dumb.  No, the GOP is the Coward Party, and right now that fatal flaw may result in their extinction.

There are so many lessons and good things to know this week.  Let’s go…

DIANNE FEINSTEIN BELONGS IN JAIL NOT THE SENATE

face-of-pure-evilThere are times when the face of pure evil that hides behind a mask of normality displays the hideous horror of its true self.

This is what California’s Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein has done.  The ghoulish attempt to destroy a honorable man’s life with a disgusting completely invented smear for which there is no evidence whatever should disgust anyone of moral decency.

With any luck, Senate Republicans may for once have the backbone to brush aside the pathetically transparent last-moment Anita Hill-type scam and quickly confirm Judge Kavanaugh.  That, tragically, may be asking far too much of Lady Luck.

Nonetheless, it is an opportunity to expose the scam that “DiFi” has been pulling off for many many years.  For she is far – far – more corrupt, crooked, and criminal than Hillary.

And like Hillary, her husband is her partner in crime.  Just like Hillary and Bill Clinton, Dianne Feinstein and Richard Blum should be in jail for the rest of their lives.

The crookedness – indeed treasonous crookedness – of Feinstein and Blum is almost beyond belief.  Equally beyond belief is the treasonous refusal of the Enemedia to expose it – exactly like their refusal to expose that of the Clintons.

TRUST THE PLAN?

field-of-fightChristine Blasey Ford’s dubious, ever shifting charge she was molested by Judge Brian Kavanaugh when both were teenagers is getting blanket coverage from the Enemedia.

The Lying Swine play down the really important news this week -- President Trump’s order Monday (9/17) to declassify and “unredact” portions of documents pertaining to the FBI’s investigation of “collusion” between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Democrats in Congress and the Enemedia fear full disclosure will reveal the “investigation” was a sham, part of a plot to frame President Trump.

In which they were complicit. Exposure likely will lead to electoral disaster for Democrats, could result in jail time for lawmakers and journalists who knowingly took part in it.

Why am I confident of this?  It has a lot to do with that signature you see above.
