A NOTE ON FREEDOM AND LIBERTY

Istanbul, Turkey. How free is Turkey? Turkey is almost entirely Muslim but lacks most of the repressive characteristics of many of the Arab Muslim countries.

It has a largely free market with a high rate of economic growth. But it ranks in the middle among other countries in terms of economic freedom and per capita income. It also has less religious freedom and freedom of speech than is common in most of Europe and the United States and, thus, less liberty.

The Mont Pelerin Society, most of whose members are economists and other scholars who were inspired by the great economist and philosopher F.A. Hayek, is holding a meeting here in Istanbul to discuss the nation, the state and liberty. The discussants are drawn from many countries and cultures, resulting in a very stimulating debate, some of which is summarized here, along with my own observations and thoughts.

LIVE FREE OR DIE

That's the state motto of New Hampshire - right on NH license plates.  Most consider it a rephrase of Virginian Patrick Henry's immortal "Give me liberty or give me death."  That's the personal message.  Yet it's also a message to America:  if America ceases to be free, ceases to extol and value the individual liberty of its citizens, America as a nation will die.

The voters of New Hampshire absorbed this message with a vengeance last week.  Before then, the NH bicameral legislature - called the General Court - had a Dem majority of 225 out of 400 in the state House and 14 out of 24 in the state Senate.

Get ready for the new numbers:  on Nov 2nd,  the Republicans went from 175 to 297 in the House and from 10 to 19 in the Senate.  Both are veto-proof super-majorities, which will come in handy when they repeal the homosexual "marriage" law Dems passed last year.  Dem Gov John Lynch's veto will mean nothing.

A lot of America followed NH's lead last week.  The GOP gained 675 state legislature seats nationwide, the most since 1928.  It will now control Congressional redistricting for the 2012 election in 13 states with 165 districts - while the Dems will have four states with 40 districts.  This on top of:

Governors - before 11/02, 26 Dem 24 GOP; now 19 Dem 29 GOP (via cheating by Quinn in IL; MN undecided)
Senate - before 11/02, 59 Dem, 41 GOP; now 53 Dem, 47 GOP (via cheating by Murray in WA, Bennett in CO, and Reid in NV)
House - before 11/02, 238 Dem , 178 GOP; now 189 Dem, 240 GOP (via Dem cheating in all close races; 6 still undecided)

Let's not focus on Dem cheating.  That's what Dems do, thanks to their ends-justify-the-means Marxist morality.  Let's focus on the extraordinary conservative triumph over the cheating.  A great majority of Americans chose last week to live free and not die.  We really had something to celebrate at the TTP Victory Rendezvous this past weekend.

A LETTER TO AMERICA FROM A DODGE DEALER

My name is George C. Joseph.  I am the sole owner of Sunshine Dodge-Isuzu, a family owned and operated business in Melbourne, Florida. My family bought and paid for this automobile franchise 35 years ago in 1974. I am the second generation to manage this business.

We currently employ 50+ people and before the economic slowdown we employed over 70 local people.  We are active in the community and the local chamber of commerce. We deal with several dozen local vendors on a day to day basis and many more during a month.  All depend on our business for part of their livelihood.

On Thursday, May 14, 2009 I was notified that my Dodge franchise, that we purchased, will be taken away from my family on June 9, 2009 without compensation and given to another dealer at no cost to them.

HOW IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CAN THIS HAPPEN?

NERVOUS IN MECCA

It was certainly no coincidence that on the 4th anniversary of 9/11 last Sunday, front page headlines appeared in the nation’s newspapers entitled Pentagon Revises Nuclear Strike Plan .

It was a public shot across the Jihadi Terrorists’ bow, meant to make them and folks in Mecca nervous. You know why, since you read Mad in Mecca in To The Point back in October, 2004, and George Bush and the Sword of Damocles: Why There Hasn’t Been Another 9/11 last January.

It’s the clearest sign yet that Mecca is being held as a nuclear hostage.

EUROPE HAS A COVENANT WITH DEATH

The collapse has begun. Nihilism thrives in Europe.

A new book written by Alejandro Macarrón Larumbe, El Suicidio Demográfico de España" (The Demographic Suicide of Spain - although in Spanish, here is a Power Point summary in English) delivers a death sentence for Europe.

The German giant is also ditching.  The weekly Der Spiegel has a long article titled "A Land without Children."  The European Union, which offers its citizens every comfort, with first-rate health care, long holidays and sit-down lunches, protected jobs and generous welfare, has the world's lowest fertility rate (1.47 children per woman) and the highest percentage of a population that is over 65 years old (16.4 per cent of the population in the EU).

Meanwhile, nearly one in three pregnancies in Europe is terminated by abortion, according to the Gutmacher Institute in the US, and all over Europe gay marriage is advancing (France and UK will soon approve it). The model is Spain, where you have no more "father" and "mother", but Parent (progenitor) A, and Parent (progenitor) B.

In the Netherlands, you can order a mobile euthanasia van to your house. It's the first experiment in the world of door-to-door euthanasia and the insurance covers the cost of the operation.

HALF FULL REPORT 02/17/12

The two most intriguing words of the week:  "I'm game."  It's was Sarah Palin's answer to Eric Bolling on Fox's Follow The Money show on Wednesday (2/15).

She agreed with Bolling that we could end up with a brokered GOP convention, and that while she respected "all four" remaining candidates in the race (Romney, Santorum, Gingrich & Paul), "all bets are off" if it comes to that.  "If it does," asked Bolling, "then, Governor, would you be interested?"

Sarah's answer:  "I would be willing to help any way that I can."  And: "If that means running for office at some point in the future, I'm game."

No wonder everyone wants a brokered convention.  As Jenny Beth Martin and Mark Meckler, founders of Tea Party Patriots, told Neil Cavuto on Fox News on Wednesday (2/15), "Nobody is satisfied with the (four) candidates out there. They're all losers."

Jenny and Mark could have done a mea culpa at this point, for after going ga-ga over Herman Cain, they pouted in a corner when he cratered.  If Tea Party Patriots had gone all-up/all-in for Rick Perry, we wouldn't be in this loser-mess now.

But we are.  So, what would it take for an "all bets are off" convention?  The short answer is...

WHY DOES OBAMA NEVER EXPLAIN WHAT HE MEANS BY “FAIR”?

Many on the political left are quick to recognize that tax rates affect behavior when applied to behaviors they do not like, such as smoking. They want to have high taxes on certain foods, such as candy, drinks containing sugar, and transfats, to discourage their use.

But when it comes to labor and capital, those on the left often argue that those taxes have little effect on the willingness of people to work or invest in productive enterprises, despite both the empirical evidence and good economic theory.

President Obama, you assert that it is fair for the rich to pay more, but you never define ‘fairness' or how you derived this undefined concept. Why?

I have asked the White House to provide the answer but have received no response. We know from previous experience and from good dynamic economic studies that higher capital gains taxes will result in fewer new jobs and even less tax revenue. How is that fair, Mr. President?

UNLEASHING AMERICA

I'm sure you're pretty happy today.  Not quite as happy as you would be if Little Harry Reid had lost - but realize that he'll be Senate Majority Leader for only two more years.

Every two years roughly one-third of the Senate's 100 seats are up, but the party balance shifts.  This year it was even, 18 Rep and Dem seats up each.  In 2012, it will be 10 Rep and 25 Dem seats up for grabs.  The odds for a GOP Senate majority will be high.

(Note that those 25 Dems include Joe Lieberman and Bernie Sanders who call themselves "independent," and just-elected Joe Manchin and Kirsten Gillibrand.  Since the latter two are filling out Robert Byrd's and Hillary Clinton's terms, they have to run again two years' hence.)

So - taking the Senate was a bridge too far this year.  Let's instead be overjoyed at  the awesome massiveness of the GOP/Tea Party victory yesterday and the concomitant obliteration of the Zero-Pelosi Agenda for the Ruination of America.

And you're asking:  Yes, Jack, I'm happy and drank way too much Famous Grouse in celebration, but - what happens now?  Good question.  Here we go.

A SHIELD FOR VIRUS INFECTIONS

[Introductory note by Jack Wheeler: Last week in Protecting Yourself From Mexican Swine Flu, Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw suggested a series of prophylactic measures to take in case of pandemic.  At the time, they were racing to develop a nutrient formula to provide effective prophylactic protection from the human swine flu virus.

They have now done so.  It is called V-Shield, and is available through their licensee Life Enhancement Products.  It is designed to protect people from infectious viruses - but as they emphasize, while it can be taken in addition to any drugs prescribed by one's physician (such as Tamiflu or Relenza), it is not a substitute for them.

The article below describes the scientific basis and references for the inclusion of each ingredient in V-Shield.  With one exception, I have been taking them all for many years in amounts equal to or exceeding those in the formula.  (The exception is quercetin, of which I'll now increase my intake!)]

We decided to evaluate the peer-reviewed scientific literature indexed by the National Library of Medicine on natural products for those that have useful antiviral effects at safe dosages.

The evidence led us to a protective combination that consists of the flavonoid quercetin, green tea extract, resveratrol, n-acetylcysteine, vitamin D, and vitamin C.  These ingredients have been reported to have significant anti-viral effects in cell culture and animal studies, and in a few human clinical trials.

WHO’S NEXT?

Now that Bush has utterly outfoxed the Dems on his first Supreme Court nomination - John Roberts is a done deal for Chief Justice - everyone inside the Beltway is handicapping his next choice.

He has confided in no one, including me. Maybe Laura knows, but she’s only given hints. Those hints and everything else points to a feminine direction. The next nominee, replacing Sandra Day O’Connor, almost has to be a woman.

It could be Priscilla Owen, it could be Edith Jones, but I am crossing my fingers for Janice Rogers Brown.

IS THE UN TAKING OVER THE INTERNET?

I've been getting lots of questions on the Dubai ITU conference, which begins next Monday (12/03-14). There are a lot of misleading stories floating around. Each group in this fight has journalists that they control, and these "noble servants of the fourth estate" are dutifully raising concerns from several different angles at the same time.

Now, before I explain what's happening, let me warn you that it's an ugly mess, and that none of the players are clearly "the good guys."

So here's a breakdown on the Players, the Fights, and What Will Happen.

HALF-FULL REPORT 02/10/12

Thanks to Herculean efforts by Miko and Joel Wade, we have finally reached closure on RXII - the Plan B Rendezvous.

First is when.  Memorial Day weekend turned out to be booked up everywhere and impossibly expensive to boot.  After much scrambling, the dates that work are for the following weekend, Friday June 1st to Sunday June 3rd

Second is where.  It's really hard to come up with a fabulous place in a fabulous location at an affordable price - but after endless hardball negotiating, Miko & Joel did it.  So here we go.  RXII will be at the Seascape Beach Resort on Monterrey Bay in Santa Cruz, California

All the info and details will be up early next week.  For now, plan to join us for the 12th TTP Rendezvous - RXII - the Plan B Rendezvous, Friday June 1st to Sunday June 3rd at the Seascape Report in Santa Cruz.  Maybe we should call this the Beach Party Rendezvous!

************
The big CPAC convention is going now in DC, and yesterday there was a extraordinary speech - it was exhilarating and depressing, uplifting and infuriating, so galvanizing you stood up and cheered, so immensely sad you sat down and cried.

HOW THE IRS DOESN’T OBEY THE 16TH AMENDMENT

The stealth wealth tax may be the single-largest tax ever imposed on the American people, yet virtually no one knows about it. What is particularly unconscionable about this tax is that it has been imposed upon the most responsible citizens and the elderly in a most disproportionate way, and the real tax rate on American savers has soared to record levels.

Inflation is a non-legislated wealth tax. If you had kept a $100 bill a year ago, today you would be able to buy just $96.20 worth of goods and services, given the current 3.8 percent inflation rate. The Fed, by its failure to preserve the value of the currency as it is charged to do, has imposed a stealth wealth tax on you.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has made it worse by imposing a tax on nominal savings income, not just on inflation-adjusted income.

The 16th Amendment to the Constitution gave the federal government the right to impose a tax on "incomes." A change in the price level caused by inflation is not income by any economic or sensible definition of the word.

DEMOCRAT KOOL-AID

Georgetown, Guyana.  You may think you've never heard of this place but you have.

The former British Guiana (one of the three Guianas - the other two being former Dutch Guiana, now Surinam, and French Guiana, all on the northeast shoulder of South America) - is these days visited by folks into eco-tourism.  This place has one of the most untouched rainforests on earth with an astonishing variety of bird and wildlife.

But Guyana doesn't ring a bell with you because of harpy eagles and howler monkeys.  How about Jim Jones and Jonestown?  Yes, that Guyana, where, on November 18, 1978, over 900 Americans committed mass suicide on orders of their cult leader.

It remains one of the most bizarre events of modern times - from which the phrase "drinking the Kool-Aid" originates, meaning blind unthinking acceptance of a suicidally idiotic set of beliefs.

Yet almost no one knows just what, exactly, were the beliefs of the "Peoples Temple" cult created by Jim Jones.  Some sort of weird religion, right?

Nope.  Jim Jones calling his Peoples Temple a "church" was a tax-avoidance scam as it was purely secular.  He admitted in a taped interview, "I'm an atheist."  He was not a religious leader.  He was a Stalin-admiring far left San Francisco Democrat.

LOWERING YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE IN THE AGE OF ZERO

Living in the "Age of Zero," where every action of Congress and the White House seems designed to ruin our economy and expand government control, can definitely raise your blood pressure.

It turns out that there may be a very simple and very inexpensive way to reduce (often dramatically) your blood pressure - and much more.  Studies of potassium bicarbonate supplements in humans report:

*Reduced Blood Pressure
*Increased Muscle Mass
*Decreased Bone Loss
*Reduced Risk of Stroke
*Improved Endothelial Function
*Reduced Dietary Acid Load

Our diet has changed radically from what our ancestors ate 50,000 years ago, and not all of these changes have been for the good. Our modern diets are likely to contain far less potassium, far more sodium, more acid forming nutrients, and less base forming nutrients than those enjoyed by our ancestors when our species evolved.

Fortunately, an inexpensive potassium bicarbonate dietary supplement can help you to eat more like a Caveman without all that Stone Age food hunting and gathering work.
