[Full video and text of President Trump’s address to the nation yesterday 10/02. Afterwards, the President and First Lady, with the Vice-President and Second Lady, held a moment of silence for the victims at the White House. Video follows.]
American just witnessed, endured, and suffered the worst mass shooting in its history.
A crazed psychopath holed up in the Mandalay Bay hotel; stocked up on ammo and guns; and, at the close of a music festival across the street, shot at the crowd of 22 thousand people for over ten minutes with high-powered rifles that appear to have been converted to machine guns. Fifty-nine people died. Five hundred or more were injured, many of them seriously. It was a terrible, murderous event.
The horror of it has led some on the Left to reveal the amoral emptiness at their cores. Because the festival was a country music celebration, they assumed that the attendees were Republicans and so deserved to die.
An executive attorney for CBS, Hayley Geftman-Gold, tweeted "... am actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often republican gun toters." Another woman, TheResistANNce, tweeted, "Pray only trumptards died. Their jumping to politicize the tragedy speaks volumes about their soulless selves.
To th Left, the event is an opportunity to vilify the deplorables who just might be Trump-supporters. That's what they do. This is the chasm that divides the Left from the Right.
In the wake of the mass murder in Las Vegas on Sunday (10/01), the calls for gun control have become deafening – from Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) denouncing Congress’s failure to pass gun-control legislation as an “unintentional endorsement” of mass shootings, to pundit Keith Olbermann calling for the NRA to be labeled a “terrorist organization.”
I am a professional statistician. And I admit, before I started researching gun deaths, gun-control policy used to frustrate me.
I wished the National Rifle Association would stop blocking common-sense gun-control reforms such as banning assault weapons, restricting silencers, shrinking magazine sizes and all the other measures that could make guns less deadly.
Then, my research colleagues and I at FiveThirtyEight spent three months analyzing all 33,000 lives ended by guns each year in the United States, and I wound up frustrated in a whole new way.
We looked at what interventions might have saved those people, and the case for the policies I’d lobbied for crumbled when I examined the evidence. The best ideas left standing were narrowly tailored interventions to protect subtypes of potential victims, not broad attempts to limit the lethality of guns.
President Trump got bad advice about the secession crisis in Catalonia. When Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy visited the White House last week, he said that Spain's northeastern region would be "foolish to secede."
On the contrary, the gutsy Catalans are the world's poster-kids for populism. Their independence movement is a real revolution. America shouldn't meddle in Spain's internal affairs, to be sure, but we ought to recognize a kindred political movement when we see it.
Unlike the anti-clerical left-wing movements of the past, the Catalan revolutionaries today evince thoroughly bourgeois goals. As a revolutionary movement, the Catalans better resemble the Americans of 1776 than the French of 1789, the Russians of 1917, or the Catalan revolutionary government of the late 1930s that ultimately was crushed by Francisco Franco.
Top global banks and bond funds are increasingly alarmed by the secessionist showdown in Spain, fearing that Catalan leaders will declare unilateral independence within days and set off a dangerous chain-reaction.
The link is to the horrific bloody violence perpetrated by Spanish police upon unarmed Catalans simply trying to vote. Here’s another. Twitter feeds such as #SpainOutOfEU, #ShameOnSpain, #CatalanReferendum have numerous videos of the unbelievable brutality on Sunday (10/01).
Those old enough to remember the Spanish Civil War can only shudder at TV footage of crowds across Spain cheering units of Guardia Civil for beating up defenseless Catalans, egged on with chants of “go get them.”
The disastrous hurricanes that struck Puerto Rico might provide the excuse for the necessary, fundamental reform on the island.
Puerto Rico has spent most of the past 12 years in recession, leading to its current bankruptcy. The bankruptcy was caused by gross fiscal mismanagement over the last few decades.
Only during the term of Gov. Luis Fortuno (2009-13) was any serious attempt to right the ship, but Mr. Fortuno was ultimately defeated by the government unions.
Puerto Rico now has a federally appointed oversight board to try to sort out the mess. The task was difficult before the latest hurricane, but now it will require even more radical measures. Here’s what’s needed to rescue Puerto Rico.
This has been a revelatory week. Hours after the HFR was posted last Friday (9/22), the President denounced the “SOBs” who hate their country so much they won’t stand for our anthem while being paid absolute fortunes to play a game.
His specific words were not intemperately spontaneous, but chosen carefully to get exactly the reaction – from both his supporters and opponents – they got. We’re only just beginning to see, today one week later, just how yuge a win it is for him. As in yuge.
Simultaneously, this alleged political neophyte gets his entire base of tens of millions to jump to their feet in roaring support for him, lances the boil of the Left’s ruinous politicalization of sports, and exposes for all to see just how much Democrats and their Fake News propagandists really do hate America.
Focus in on that expression: “Suicide by Trump.” This is Sun Tzu-level genius, goading and manipulating your enemies to destroy themselves, at no harm to yourself while increasing and expanding support from those on your side. That’s how Ronald Reagan got the Soviet Union to destroy itself.
The “Suicide by Trump” strategy has wide application as we’ll see…
An Army recruit starts off with a salary under $20,000. Thousands of active duty military personnel are on food stamps. Millions of veterans rely on them to feed their families and themselves.
That’s how we treat the best of us. Here’s how we treat the worst of us: 10 NFL Players Who Beat and Abuse Women…
An NFL rookie’s minimum salary is $465,000. And the majority of NFL players are usually bankrupt a few years after retirement because they blew through most of their money. Dozens of NFL players are arrested every year on charges ranging from murder to rape to animal abuse.
It’s no wonder that so many of the NFL’s millionaire scumbags are eager to join Colin Kaepernick’s protests against the justice system by degrading our anthem. It’s because they’re criminals.
And because the NFL is a criminal monopoly created by Democrats. It’s time we got rid of it.
Contrary to what dishonest leftists, the media, and the NFL want you to believe, when you are at work, no one, including a bunch of crybaby football players, has the right to express themselves.
For a number of very good reasons, employers have a wide variety of rights when it comes to controlling the behavior of their employees.
So this particular talking point we are hearing in defense of spoiled millionaires, who only work 16 days a year, but who still feel they must spit on the American flag and anthem, this nonsense about how in America, you have the right to express yourself at work, is nothing less than a massive pile of horse apples — a total and complete lie in defense of the indefensible.
The purpose of that massive lie, though, is to cover up the fact that the NFL hates America. Because what the NFL does not want you to talk about is this…
Rarely has an intelligence apparatus engaged in systematic lying—and chronic deceit about its lying—both during and even after its tenure. Yet the Obama Administration’s four top security and intelligence officials time and again engaged in untruth, as if peddling lies was part of their job descriptions.
So far none have been held accountable.
Those exemptions are likely because, in hubristic fashion, all four assumed their service to progressive noble agendas would justify any odious means felt necessary to achieve them.
In part their liberal credentials were seen as guarantees that the media either would ignore or excuse their dissimulation. And in part, untruth was innate to them as lifelong and now seasoned Washington bureaucrats.
Their reasons to be in Washington were largely a quest for media exposure, government sinecures, revolving door profiteering, and maintaining a host of subordinate toadies at their service. A harsh assessment, perhaps—but lying to the American people earns them such disdain.
Since 2015, Britain has been one election away from having an antisemitic prime minister backed by antisemitic voters. If current trends in the Democrat Party continue, in the not-so-distant future, the United States might be in the same position.
Two years ago, Jeremy Corbyn was elected leader of Britain’s main opposition Labor Party. Corbyn is a rabid antisemite.
He refers to Hezbollah and Hamas – two terrorist groups that openly support the genocide of world Jewry and the annihilation of the Jewish state – as “our friends.” He has shared stages with Hamas terrorists and Holocaust- deniers. Since his ascension to leadership of the Labor Party, he has overseen the mainstreaming of antisemitic actions and rhetoric by his party members and supporters.
This then brings us to the American Democrat Party.
Over the past week, two incidents occurred that indicate that the party of Harry Truman and Bill Clinton is becoming increasingly comfortable with blaming the Jews.
Since the rise during the late 1800s of Socialism, New Liberalism, and Progressivism it has been conventional to scorn economic liberty as vulgar and optional—something only fat cats care about.
But the original liberalism during the 1700s of Voltaire, Adam Smith, Tom Paine, and Mary Wollstonecraft recommended an economic liberty for rich and poor, simply understood as not messing with other peoples’ stuff.
We are told from the radical left that free exchange is intrinsically evil. Any extension will merely extend the evil. The evidence is that economic liberty does not corrupt us, but rather makes us rather virtuous as well as very rich. It enriches in both senses, material and spiritual.
For one thing, mutually advantageous exchange is far better than the violent pride of aristocrats or the violent insolence of bureaucrats.
We do not lose our souls in commerce, but cultivate them.
It is a fair bet that Sen. Bernie Sanders (and most of his followers), unlike tens of millions of othes, never read George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” or Friedrich von Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom.”
Why do so many embrace a system — socialism — that has always failed, whether it was a form of state socialism or the various utopian communities started in the United States and Europe over the last couple of hundred years?
We praise the benign socialism that is practiced within the family, churches, some social or civic groups where the members look out for each other in case of need. It works as long as it is voluntary and members are free to leave.
In contrast, government socialism is coercive and denies the fundamental right to opt out, no matter how repressive or incompetent it becomes. This is what Bernie Sanders wants. Let’s review the steps by which he and his ilk are taking to achieve it.
