THE MORAL VIRTUE OF SELF-INTERESTED WORK

It is wonderful to give to and help others. We are appreciated when we give to others through charity, volunteering or other acts of kindness.

And rightly so. When we help another person in some way, it creates a spirit of goodwill, and it’s one of the single most important acts we can do for our own happiness.

What’s often overlooked is how much consciousness, caring, time, money and energy we already put into significantly helping other people every day – just through the work we do.

It’s popular to dismiss all of our work by saying we are doing it for the money – as though earning money cheapens our efforts, and makes our efforts base, selfish, or materialistic.

But earning a living from what we do makes it possible and reasonable for us to do it. When demagogues lecture young college graduates to forego making money and do something else to help people, they are telling them that what we do to make money does not help people.

This, of course, is the exact opposite of the truth.

HALF-FULL REPORT 10/16/15

Warsaw, Poland. I’m here for briefings and consultations with my Polish friends very concerned about the state of affairs in the only country that stands between them and the omnivorous Russian bear.

“It’s very hard for us to comprehend how fast America is deteriorating under Obama,” one of them commented. “We all saw that report this week (10/12) that leaders of an EU government believe Obama is ‘quite mentally unwell.’ We don’t know what government the report is quoting because we know of several EU governments who feel this way.”

“They probably saw that 60 Minutes interview of him the night before,” another chimed in, “where he said, ‘My definition of leadership would be leading on climate change’.” Everyone laughed – until someone said, “Actually, that isn’t funny, that is crazy.”

And Zero’s craziness never lets up. On Monday (10/12), he issued an (anti-) Columbus Day Proclamation, in keeping with this libtard effort to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day.

Personally, I think conservatives should embrace the idea – as you couldn’t ask for a better opportunity to have more fun exposing liberal hypocrisy. Here’s how…

That Zero’s rabidly left craziness has infected the entire Democrat party was on ample display Tuesday night (10/13) during the debate of its prez candidates. The PIAPS was ecstatically declared the winner by the Enemedia because she was better than the pathetic losers she was up against…

There’s more, it’s another fun HFR, and we’re sure you’ll like the Hero of the Week.

THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED

[This letter by Senator Ted Cruz in his capacity as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight, was sent to Attorney General Lynch yesterday, October 14. It is a classic example of how Congress should investigate malfeasance by a federal agency.]

Dear Attorney General Lynch:

I write today to request information about the Department of Justice’s interactions with state and local law enforcement agencies across the United States.

I am very concerned that the Administration’s policies, as currently implemented by the Department, may be reducing the effectiveness of state and local law enforcement officials, chilling their ability to stop criminals in their communities, and fueling a nationwide crime increase.

At a time when the President’s anti-police rhetoric is emboldening criminals and fueling a nationwide surge in violent crime, the American public deserves to know if the Department is using the machinery of the United States government to suppress state and local law enforcement’s effectiveness.

I therefore request the following documents and information be provided to the Senate Committee as soon as possible, but no later than 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2015.

PUTIN THINKS OBAMA HAS MUSH FOR BRAINS

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has issued a caustic defense of his country's bombing raids in Syria, accusing the West of stonewalling requests for help on terrorist targets and failing to grasp the basic facts on the ground.

"We asked them to give us the information on the targets that they believe to be 100 percent terrorists and they refused to do that," he said.

"We then asked to please tell us which targets are not terrorists, and there was no answer, so what are we supposed to do. I am not making this up," he told a VTB Capital forum of bankers and investors in Moscow yesterday (10/13).

"I think some of our partners simply have mush for brains. They do not have a clear understanding of what is really happening in the country and what goals they are seeking to achieve," he said. Clearly understood by everyone was that by “our partners,” he was referring to Barack Obama.

By the end of the conference however…

THE NEW AXIS OF EVIL

Do you remember the Axis of Evil?

It was one of the major themes of President George W. Bush’s State of the Union speech in January 2002, 4 months after the 9/11 terrorist attack on the United States.  The president identified Iran, Iraq and North Korea as an “axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world.”

W was roundly criticized for the phrase.  Yet Bush saw that all three countries were enemies of ours, were dedicated to developing weapons of mass destruction, and were willing to cooperate in order to expand their power and threaten the peace of the world.

We now face a more potent Axis of Evil. There is no single ideology that unites them – except their hatred of the West.  The new Axis includes Sunni and Shi’ite radical Muslims, Communists and other radical leftists, and nationalistic secular tyrants like Vladimir Putin.

They have certainly succeeded in wrecking hopes for a peaceful world. How are we to cope with this?

HILLARYNOMICS

If Hillary Clinton were to be elected president, what economic policies would she propose and what would be the effect on the economy? To try to get an answer, I have looked at her statements, her campaign website, and her Senate record.

Mrs. Clinton has recognized the major economic problem of slow growth and stagnant incomes, and her economic platform is called, “A plan to raise American incomes.”

Unfortunately, the plan is largely a list of feel-good statements with very little specificity and contains nothing that would have a major positive impact on economic growth. (In fact, some of the proposals, such as increasing the minimum wage and overtime rules, would be negatives).

So let’s take a look at what she has done, not what she says.

THE TECHNOLOGY OF MORE FOOD AT LESS COST AND A BETTER ENVIRONMENT

October is traditionally the time for harvest festivals in communities throughout the US and here in Britain. In fact, the word “harvest” comes from Old English hærfest, meaning “autumn.”

I have just taken a ride on the combine harvester cutting wheat on my farm in Northumberland. It is such a sophisticated threshing machine that long gone are the days when I could be trusted to take the controls during the lunch break.

A screen showed how the GPS was steering it, inch-perfect and hands-free, along the edge of the unharvested crop; another screen gave an instant readout of the yield. It was averaging over five tons (kilotons, 1,000 kilos or 2,200 lbs) per acre (or 12 tons per hectare) — a record.

This is Precision Farming. It and other hi-tech developments have resulted in the Food and Agriculture Organization’s food price index now well below where it was throughout the 1960s and 1970s: that is to say, it’s proving cheaper and easier to feed seven billion today than it was to feed three billion in 1960. And on much less land. The Eco-Doomsters are of course unhappy.

CLOWNS TO THE RIGHT JOKERS TO THE LEFT

In keeping with Stealers Wheel 1972 classic Dylan spoof, Stuck in the Middle with You, with the famous refrain, “Clowns to left of me, jokers to the right, Here I am, stuck in the middle with you…”

HALF-FULL REPORT 10/09/15

Lurch Lost. You can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth on the 7th Floor of Foggy Bottom all the way across the Potomac.

John F’n Kerry was glued to the big flat screen in his palatial office at 5:01am this morning – 11:01am Oslo time – expecting to watch Kaci Kullman Five, Chairlady of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, announce him along with his BTF (Best Terrorist Friend), Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, winner of the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize.

For a man possessed of such towering egomaniacal arrogance that it equals or even succeeds Zero’s, it was a crushing humiliation to learn the winner instead was a group of Tunisians no one had ever heard of….

The latest international mystery is how ISIS has acquired all those shiny new Toyota SUVs. ABC (10/06) can’t figure it out. The New York Daily News says (10/07) both the US government and Toyota in Japan are “stumped.”

This is Lying Swine journalism at its coverup best. Of course Langley and Toyota Global knows exactly where they’re coming from and how ISIS got them….

Arnie Steinberg sure called it in TTP on Monday (10/05), when he said Kevin McCarthy should withdraw from the race for Speaker. McCarthy did so yesterday (10/08). His gaffe on Benghazi, as Arnie explained, was irreparable. Now what?

Here’s a heads up! Next Tuesday (10/13) will be the first Dem presidential candidate debate. You’ll be surprised to see who’ll steal the show….

“Why aren’t we seeing Hillary’s lovers? There’s a (media) coverup on this… She is old and she’s sick. She is not a contender. They’re making her a contender with these propped up Saturday Night Live things; it’s like a head on a stick.” That’s Matt Drudge on Alex Jones. Here’s the full video….

There’s so much more. It’s a fun HFR this week.

OBAMA’S SHUTDOWN

Obama Squeezes Republican Throats on Defense Spending. That’s the headline regarding Zero’s latest veto threat if he doesn’t get his way.

So Zero is willing to defund America’s military if he can’t close Gitmo and release its terrorists back into the world.

It’s only the latest example of Zero’s Imperial Emperorship’s contempt for Republicans and their leadership. One of the great ironies of America today is that virtually all conservatives in the country feel the same as Zero.

Ted Cruz last week (9/28) brilliantly explained on the floor of the Senate the cause of conservative contempt.

No money may be spent by the federal government unless it is authorized by the House with the Senate concurring. Yet on any budget funding the government, if Congress’ budget defunds (refuses to fund) anything Zero wants – Obamacare, amnesty for illegals, Planned Parenthood, the Iran Sellout – Zero has a hissy fit and declares “I, Barack Obama, will veto funding for the entire federal government and shut it down,” and Republican leadership folds like a cheap suit.

There is an easy cure for this, for Pubs in Congress to stop being Obama-bootlicking surrender monkeys.

WHY OBAMA’S IRAN DEAL ENSURES WAR

There are several scenarios the Obama administration may be entertaining as it pursues its diplomacy in the Middle East.

It may believe that the new agreement with Iran will lead to “engagement” with reform-minded theocrats. Or perhaps an Obama-inspired second green revolution will overthrow the regime.

Alternatively, the administration may imagine that a Shiite Axis — Iran, Syria, Iraq, Hezbollah, Hamas — empowered by Putin’s Russia, will balance the region.

Or, the United States may simply wish to abdicate the Middle East and let the players there all fight it out, reentering when the players are worn out and defeated.

All these scenarios are probably fantasies. In truth, the deal will make the world a much more dangerous place. Here are five reasons why.

THE DELUSIONS HOLDING AMERICA AND ISRAEL HOSTAGE

Last week the Obama administration was caught off guard by Russia’s rapid rise in Syria.

As the Russians began bombing a US-supported militia along the Damascus-Homs highway, Secretary of State John Kerry was meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, at the UN. Just hours before their meeting Kerry was insisting that Russia’s presence in Syria would likely be a positive development.

Putin understands the opportunity of the moment. He views the decomposition of Syria as an opportunity to rebuild Russia’s power and influence in the Middle East – at America’s expense.

Unlike Mr. Putin however, Barack Hussein Obama is moved not by power calculations rooted in reality but by ideological dictates. Thus
Obama’s position cannot be swayed by evidence, even when evidence shows that his delusional policies endanger US national security.

This brings us to Israel. It too has leaders who are delusional – and you’d be very surprised to learn who they are.

ED ROYCE FOR SPEAKER?

[Arnie Steinberg, Ed Royce, and I have been friends since we were in Youth For Reagan in RR’s original campaign for California governor in 1966 – perilously close to half a century. Arnie has one of the sharpest minds in conservative politics. His case for Ed as Speaker is a good example. –JW]

Kevin McCarthy should not be Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The main reason is his gratuitous, ridiculous, and now infamous statement on national television, essentially that the Congressional inquiry into Benghazi was politically motivated.

The continuing Benghazi inquiry is not political frivolity, it is not part of the “Republican War Against Women.” Hillary was Secretary of State, this occurred under her watch, she and her team colluded in the cover-up. Hillary said of the probe, “What difference does it make?” Americans should want and demand all the facts, the truth.

Republicans should have immediately disavowed and promptly repudiated McCarthy’s statement. Benghazi committee members should have publicly taken grave offense. McCarthy should have apologized and withdrawn from the race for House Speaker.

McCarthy has two Republican opponents. Many Congressional Republicans cannot support Daniel Webster (FL-10), who has only been in Congress five years, or Jason Chaffetz, who just now chaired the botched Planned Parenthood hearings.

But these two men likely will force McCarthy into a second ballot. At some point, Republicans (hopefully) will opt for someone of stature and intellect, and I shall mention one: Congressman Ed Royce (CA-39), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Here’s why.

HOW GOVERNMENT IS INCREASING THE MISERY OF THE POOR

Grand Cayman. Government is supposed to make life better for people — particularly the poor — but the U.S. and European governments are increasing the misery of the poor.

In the popular culture, Cayman is viewed as place were tax evaders and money launderers put their wealth. The truth is quite different in that most money laundering takes place in the big financial centers like London and New York, not Cayman.

For many years, Cayman has had information exchange agreements with the Internal Revenue Service and U.S. Treasury and the major European governments — so one would be very foolish to put money in a Cayman bank with the intent of not getting caught for tax evasion or money laundering.

Cayman is a high-income jurisdiction as a result of having a prosperous financial sector (having nothing to do with illegal activity), a vibrant tourist industry, and an increasingly diversified economy.

It also provides a good example of how the US government in collusion with others is increasing the misery of the poor in countries around the world.
