THE DNC’S PROPOSED PLATFORM IS A BIZARRE DOCUMENT

harris-walzWith the Democrat convention having begun today, the DNC released its platform, a 91-page mess of ideas and stances that is, as Lewis Carroll would say, a combination of “ambition, distraction, uglification, and derision.”

Aside from insisting that Biden is the candidate, the document is a mess of communism, lies about Trump, economic ignorance, race-baiting, and, surprisingly, pro-Israel language that will enrage the pro-Hamas base.

At the end of the day, few will like it. I’ve attempted to put the highlights into this post.

The first section in the document covers economics. It is framed in terms of class warfare between Trump, the country club candidate fighting for billionaires, and scrappy Scranton Joe Biden, who isn’t a candidate.

The actual DNC candidate is the elitist Kamala, the child of two Berkeley professors, who then grew up in affluence in Montreal, Canada.

The document insists that Biden has the best economic record ever and offers multiple promises for the future. Here are just a few:

BARRON TRUMP AND HIS BUDDY BO LOUDON ARE INTRODUCING TRUMP TO THE YOUTH VOTE

One of the most fascinating things about Elon Musk’s interview with Donald Trump was the audience demographic. According to X data, 77% of the people who tuned in were aged 34 or younger.

This supports what a young man told me, which is that his generation is uninterested in old people’s media and looks only to alternative media for information.

Now, it turns out that Barron Trump, working behind the scenes, and his friend Bo Loudon, who is the face of the duo, are working hard to show these young voters that Donald Trump may be old, but Kamala Harris is the one stealing their futures.

The moment that Trump stepped into the political arena in 2015, Melania went full Mama Bear, protecting Barron from public scrutiny. This was absolutely the right thing to do.

However, now that he’s turned 18 and left high school, the 6’9” Barron seems to be breaking out of the protective barrier his mama created for him….

While Barron is still keeping a low public profile, he’s working with his friend Bo behind the scenes to change the election dynamic among young people. The mainstream media are ignoring them, but Fox and non-American media outlets are starting to notice.

THE POLITICAL TAKEOVER OF THE TEXAS ELECTRICITY MARKET

In June, the Texas Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit claiming that the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) had broken the law when it set the wholesale price of electricity at $9,000 per megawatt hour for about 80 hours during the Texas blackouts that occurred during Winter Storm Uri in February 2021.

The PUCT’s commissioners had dictated the price of electricity because they believed that market-driven “energy prices across the system…as low as approximately $1,200” did not “accurately reflect the scarcity conditions in the market.”

Their decision drove the total cost of electricity for those three days to as high as $38 billion, more than Texans had paid for electricity over the previous 12 months.

The Supreme Court never sought to understand why….They did not question whether the PUCT actually could or should manage the almost $50 billion a year Texas electricity market.

Their focus was to “ensure that the courts will stay in their lane” by not interfering with regulators.

REMOVING THE “GREAT” FROM BRITAIN

Last month, Britain made a dangerous swing to the left.

Private education has been attacked, more public housing, the promotion of environmental Marxism, and much more.

But that isn’t to say there wasn’t an unspoken gospel among the main parties concerning the deliberate impoverishment of the British Isles.

Merely aesthetic differences separate them.

A distinguished associate of mine told me about his grievances, the attacks against people earning lower wages and the political weaponization used by both major parties to score points from the electorate.

He also mentioned the infuriating behavior of leftist Samaritans preaching love, but when people vote contrary to their intentions, spew irascible diatribes.

Disappointing as it is, I am not terribly surprised. It would be a mistake to label the conservatives as oriented by free-market liberalism. Some permitted the organization of market forces; others such as Robert Peel, Margaret Thatcher and John Major were proponents of individual liberty.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY – SWIMMING THE HELLESPONT

jw-swims-the-hellespontJuly, 1973. The Hellespont is the famous strait separating Europe from Asia, where the Black Sea after flowing through the Bosphorus at Istanbul and a widening called Marmara empties into the Aegean Sea of the Mediterranean. One of the great stories of Greek Mythology is Leander swimming the Hellespont to tryst with Hero, the woman he loved but was forbidden to see.

Thus he swam at night, and she lit a torch for him to swim to. One night a storm blew out the torch and the strong currents swept Leander onto the rocks to drown. So I first swam the Hellespont at night in 1960 and almost drowned myself (LIFE Magazine, Dec. 12, 1960, pp 91-94).

This was the second time, swimming from Leander’s village site of Abydos on the Asia side to Sestos, Hero’s village site on Europe’s. Here I am having reached the Sestos shore.

The Hellespont is where the Trojan War was fought, where the Persians crossed to lose against the Greeks at Marathon and Salamis, where Alexander crossed to conquer the Persian Empire. Lord Byron swam the Hellespont in 1803 to make all the legends and history a part of his life. I was determined to do the same, twice to make sure. It is also on the label of Guinness beer. Beautifully and exquisitely made, the Boru Harp is on display in the famous Long Room of the Trinity College Library in Dublin. You’ll experience a sense of awe when you see it for yourself. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #219 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

A MONUMENT TO CHRISTIANITY IN THE CONGO

congo-churchThere are two Congos in Africa. The better known is the former Belgian Congo, once known as Zaire, now DR Congo (for Democratic Republic), also called Kinshasa Congo after its capital.

The lesser known is the former French Congo, now Republic of Congo, or Brazzaville Congo after its capital. Brazzaville is on the north side of a widening of the Congo River known as the Stanley Pool, while right across from it on the south side is Kinshasa.

It is in Brazzaville that you will find this magnificent monument to Christianity, the Cathedral of Sainte-Anne, with its roof covered in gleaming green-turquoise tiles, huge copper doors, and soaring arched interior bathed in sunlight. The people of Brazzaville are joyously Christian, attending 5pm Mass dressed in their most colorful finery. You’ll see Christianity truly come to life here. BUYI KIDS AT THE LUOPING FLOWER FIELDS

buyi-kids-at-luoping-flower-fieldsThe Buyi are the indigenous people of Luoping in northeast Yunnan, having lived here for many thousands of years. A peaceful agricultural people, for some 2,000 years they’ve been growing what we call rapeseed for vegetable oil. (Actually, we call it canola oil as “rapeseed” has unfortunate connotaions.)

Their multilevel terraces of bright yellow rapeseed flowers blooming in early spring (February-March here) – the Luoping Flower Fields – are world wonders of natural art.

They are marvelously friendly and hospitable – watch out for drinking rice wine with them, though, it’s seriously strong! These two Buyi kids exemplify what a joy they are to be with amidst their astounding fields of beauty. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #276 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

THE DAZZLING WHITE GODDESS

This is Dhaulagiri – Dazzling White Goddess in Sanskrit – the 7th highest mountain in the world at 8,167 meters, 26,795 ft. By consensus of the world’s mountaineers and trekkers, it is the most beautiful mountain in all the Himalayas. Dhaulagiri stands alone, not a part of any mountain range. Far below its east face is the Kali Gandaki River which originates on the Tibetan Plateau. On the other side of the river rises Annapurna, the 10th highest on earth at 8,091m/26,545ft. The river between them is at 2,520m/8,270ft – a difference of well over 18,000 feet making the Kali Gandaki Gorge the deepest in all the world.

You’re looking at the Northeast Face with the North Face to the right. Our helicopters fly past this and around to the West Face where the climbers’ base camp is. Being here is thrilling beyond words. To be with me here, join me on my Himalaya Helicopter Expedition October 26-November 2, 2024. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #302, photo ©Jack Wheeler)

MICHELLE OBAMA EXITS DNC ON ‘EAT THE RICH’ PALANQUIN

CHICAGO, IL — Following her inspiring speech last night about the evils perpetrated by wealthy people, Michelle Obama exited the Democratic National Convention stage on a palanquin with "Eat the Rich" emblazoned on it.

The beloved former first lady had just finished raking the wealthy over the coals to the delight of the crowd of supporters and delegates before climbing into the custom-made litter to be carried out on the shoulders of peasants.

"Come, slaves! Carry me out and do not make eye contact!" Michelle shouted as a group of servants scrambled onto the stage with the palanquin. "A feast of Wagyu beef and caviar awaits Barack and I, and we will not be one moment late. Chop chop!"

The Obamas drew rave reviews for their convention speeches, recounting the plight they have suffered at the hands of the rich elites of the world. "They were mesmerizing," said one DNC attendee. "Dressed in their designer clothing, fresh off their private jet flight from their expansive Martha's Vineyard estate, you could really hear the passion in their voices as they talked about the hardships endured by normal, poorer people. It was magic. Then, she floated away in her ‘Eat the Rich' palanquin borne on the backs of their indentured servants."

Michelle was later seen scolding the catering staff at the DNC for not having any bottles of Duckhorn 2018 Vintage Cabernet Sauvignon before ordering her hair stylist and personal assistant to duel with knives for her amusement.

At publishing time, the Obamas were in talks to extend their $100 million Netflix production deal to include the release of a documentary on the evils of being wealthy.

SKYE’S LINKS 08/15/24

Get ready for some fun, the Left and their lackeys are taking a beating in so many ways. This week’s Links will have you shaking your head in disbelief at DEI in action, and then grinning with schadenfreudian delight.

We’ll start with some really great news about steps toward election integrity in Virginia, and the taking down of a player in the voting machine industry. His crime was in the Philippines, but he also sold machines in America; maybe this will lead to more good news here.

Sweden is providing some real hope for those wondering if we’ll ever be able to remedy the migrant invasion problem.  And more and more information is coming out about J13—the Secret Service has serious problems; this is where the DEI influence is really obvious. And then there’s more good news coming from a court decision about 2A, too.

Nancy Pelosi drops her haughty mask and reveals the disdain she feels for those who aren’t in thrall to her; and Elon Musk’s star is getting brighter every day. Finally, as you can see in the cartoon here, there’s a new dance craze – the Harris Walz. Open this up and dance right in.

TRUMP AND TRUMAN

banzai-cliff[This Monday’s Archive was originally published on August 6, 2018.  It is even more critically relevant now than back then.  America failed to heed its message six years ago, it is mortally important it succeed this time, for this is our country’s last chance.]

TTP, August 6, 2018

[This essay is in honor of the 73rd anniversary of August 6, 1945]

Tinian Island, Pacific Ocean.  It’s a small island, less than 40 square miles, a flat green dot in the vastness of Pacific blue.  Fly over it and you notice a slash across its north end of uninhabited bush, a long thin line that looks like an overgrown dirt runway.  If you didn’t know what it was, you wouldn’t give it a second glance out your airplane window.

On the ground, you see the runway isn’t dirt but tarmac and crushed limestone, abandoned with weeds sticking out of it.  Yet seventy-three years ago today, August 6, this became the most historical airstrip on earth.  This is where World War II was won.  This is Runway Able.

This is where President Truman had the courage to achieve victory over a fascist enemy because he knew the American people would vindicate it.

President Trump has that same courage.  His presidency is a gift to America from Providence.  Now the moment is arriving when Americans must prove worthy of that gift.

THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT

shh-deucewildToday I want to talk about the right to remain silent.  Despite it being one of the best-known American criminal justice rights, people who are under investigation still manage to run their mouths and leak information like a sprinkler to those who want to put them in jail.

You need to think about all of the ways you broadcast information to people; particularly under the stress of arrest.

Most conservatives haven’t been faced with this.  Need I say, times are changing.

Up front also:  I am intending this post for an American audience.  If you are in some other country, you are subject to their legal system.  Some Americans forget that when they go abroad.

Your rights may depend on your pain tolerance.  In our scenario here, you have either been approached by law enforcement wanting to talk to you about something that happened, or you have found yourself not free to go following that happening.  Now what?

UKRAINE’S LITTLE ROUND TOP DEFEAT OF PUTIN

kursk-captured-russNot only has Vladimir Putin, the putative emperor of Russia, been proven to have no clothes, but as evidenced daily in Kursk, the Russian Army militarily speaking has been caught stark naked as well by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

Ukraine’s stunning counteroffensive in Kursk that began on Aug. 6 is proving to be a major personal embarrassment to Putin and his regime – and it is continuing to gain steam capturing Russian territory at a faster rate than what Moscow has been able to achieve in the Donbas after months of bloody fighting and 500,000+ casualties.

Sometimes, as Col. Joshua Chamberlain did while defending Little Round Top at Gettysburg during the American Civil War, you have to “fix bayonets’” and attack.

Col. Gen. Oleksandr Syrsky, the AFU Commander-in-Chief, has done just that and boldly aimed them at the underside of Putin’s corrupt and decaying Russia.

In doing so, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his generals have proven the Russian Army to be one-dimensional. Putin’s army can lay siege – and it can inch forward bleeding bodies. However, it cannot maneuver.

This sad sack static Russian army is not their father’s Soviet Army. Rather, they are their great-great grandfather’s meatgrinder of an army that fled the battlefields of WWI
