THE POLITICS OF HUMAN SACRIFICE

"What the liberal-left really wants is not for justice to be done and seen to be done, but rather for a sacrificial victim to be immolated on the pyre of racial grievance, resentment, and entitlement. Very few of those out on the streets protesting are worried in the slightest about whether or not Zimmerman is genuinely guilty of a crime. The symbolism is all that matters: Zimmerman was white; Trayvon was black." -James Delingpole, London Telegraph

This is because the Left practices the politics of human sacrifice.  The term "human sacrifice" brings up images of primitive tribes, like that so graphically and accurately depicted in the movie Apocalypto.

The culture of the Left is also based on primitive sacrifice.  The sacrifice the Left is demanding for Zimmerman - that he be "immolated on the pyre of racial grievance" - is not metaphorical.  The Left wants him physically killed - either by vigilante lynching or in a prison's electric chair.  We think our culture has "evolved" far beyond the primitive practices of human sacrifice, cannibalism, and however recently, slavery.  But it has not - not as far as the Left is concerned.

We make fun or sadly shake our heads in pity of illiterates like Rachel "I've got a 3.0" Jeantel, or rioting "I am Trayvon" inner city morons - but the truth is that the real jungle bunnies with bones through their noses are the white "intellectuals" of the Left. who teach in Ivy League Universities and write editorials in the New York Times.

Although they consider themselves to be in the progressive vanguard of sophisticated contemporary thought, their belief system is atavistic, a regression to a primitive tribal belief in Black Magic.

THE COMING NIGHTMARE OF CRACK NICOTINE

On Monday, June 21, the demented state legislature in Albany passed a bill increasing cigarette taxes.  A pack of smokes will average $9.60 across the state, and will be $11 a pack -  $11 for a single pack of cigarettes - in New York City.

This is not only pro-smuggling, it is pro-terrorist.  Who do you think runs the most lucrative cigarette smuggling operations from Virginia and the South into New York?  Hezbollah and Al Qaeda.  The higher taxes will mean higher profits for them, which they will use to kill Israelis and Americans in Afghanistan.

The state legislators who voted for the taxes should be tried for aiding and abetting terrorism for this alone.  But the consequences could be vastly worse.  New York's new tobacco tax law is an example of the Law of Unintended Consequences run amok.  It's the coming nightmare of Crack Nicotine.

CELEBRATING BLUE, CO2, AND THE RENDEZVOUS

Hear that wonderfully melodious sound?  It's the crack-up of Global Warming, the Left's crazed attempt to seize global power after the failure of Marxism crashing and burning.  2008 is starting off just right.

A tip off that it's over for the eco-wackos was the announcement of the Pantone color mavens that green is passé for 2008, that the hip color is blue - as in blue skies, no clouds, no rain, just sunshine and deep blue sky.

Then on New Years Day, the liberal bastion itself, the New York Times, scandalously ridiculed glowarmers, calling them "availability entrepreneurs," sneering at them as

"the activists, journalists and publicity-savvy scientists who selectively monitor the globe looking for newsworthy evidence of a new form of sinfulness, burning fossil fuels."

When the New York Times laughs at glowarmers - well, it's like Global Warming is so over.   So it's time to start celebrating CO2.  I have a really good suggestion on how to do so.

RED STATE LOUISIANA

Washington politics can be so much fun if you look upon them as the world's best circus.  This week's clown act was hilariously performed by the Breck Boy, John Edwards, announcing his candidacy for the presidency in the 9th Ward of New Orleans.

It was especially funny for me, as I was in New Orleans at the time for New Year's.  The 9th Ward was the area most devastated by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.  The day after Edwards' appearance, I drove my son Jackson through it.

Endless block after block after block, street after street after street, the small cottage homes are unlivable and abandoned.  At the most, one home out of every two or three dozen is repaired and occupied.

Even many of these, however, have only cosmetic repairs covering up irreparable damage from mold.  After all, all these homes were under water for weeks.  Thousands upon thousands of homes that have to be torn down are still standing because Mayor Ray Nagin insists they be rebuilt - which they never will be.

What he can't face, what John Edwards can't face, is that the corrupt heart of Democrat control of Louisiana - New Orleans' 9th Ward - is gone.

THE SAME WAR

No one should have any lingering doubts about what's going on in the Middle East. It's war, and it now runs from Gaza into Israel, through Lebanon and thence to Iraq via Syria. There are different instruments, ranging from Hamas in Gaza to Hezbollah in Syria and Lebanon and on to the multifaceted "insurgency" in Iraq. But there is a common prime mover, and that is the Iranian mullahcracy, the revolutionary Islamic fascist state that declared war on us 27 years ago and has yet to be held accountable.

It is very good news that the White House immediately...

POWER IN YOUR POCKET

If you own a Palm Pilot, you've probably heard someone comment: "Hey, that's a great toy!" or "What can you do with that toy?" - The operative word being "toy."

I don't know about you, but I would take great umbrage at being accused of playing with toys. I'm as serious about my hand-held devices as anyone, and would hold my head up when I flash my Palm Pilot around.

Yet, I’m still deciding between Palm and Pocket PC.

RUSSIA IS DECAYING FASTER THAN THE SOVIET UNION

It took two years for crumbling oil prices to bring the Soviet Union to its knees in the mid-1980s, and another two years of stagnation to break the Bolshevik empire altogether.

Russian ex-premier Yegor Gaidar famously dated the moment to September 1985, when Saudi Arabia stopped trying to defend the crude market, cranking up output instead.

"The collapse of the USSR should serve as a lesson to those who construct policy based on the assumption that oil prices will remain perpetually high. A seemingly stable superpower disintegrated in only a few short years," he wrote in 2007.

Lest we engage in false historicism, it is worth remembering just how strong the USSR still seemed. It knew how to make things. It had an industrial core, with formidable scientists and engineers.

Vladimir Putin's Russia is a weaker animal in key respects, a remarkable indictment of his 15-year reign. He presides over a rentier economy, addicted to oil, gas and metals, a textbook case of the Dutch Disease.

"Russia is already in a perfect storm," says Lubomir Mitov, Moscow chief for the Institute of International Finance. "Russia is fundamentally crippled. They have outsourced their brains and lost their technology. It looked as if Russia was strong during the oil boom but it was an illusion and now they are in an even worse position than the Soviet Union," he says.

HALF-FULL REPORT 06/06/14

o_mad_bad_movie.png

I grew up with Mad Magazine as a kid.  I'm glad to see them at the top of their game.

The question is:  Will this be the moment - terrorists being traded for a traitor in a criminal breaking of the law - when America finally snaps?  Is this the last straw on the gargantuan pile of scandal straws to break the camelidian spine of Zero's presidency?

Especially when, in the face of a nation-wide explosion of outrage, Zero doubles-down - as he always does - announcing yesterday (6/05) that he has "absolutely no apologies" for trading Taliban terrorist leaders for a deserter so traitorous he taught the Taliban how murder his fellow soldiers.

The last American soldier to be executed for desertion was Pvt. Eddie Slovik on January 31, 1945.  Bergdahl deserves a fair trial.  But if he is found guilty, he then deserves the fate of Eddie Slovik.

And what fate does Zero deserve?  To be out of power, and to live a long life of humiliation in the realization that history will regard him as despised and loathsome.

Keep reading to find out how this may happen... and there's lots more in this HFR.

GREECE PROVES HOW OVERSPENDING CAN RUIN AN ECONOMY

Athens, Greece.  How far can a modern economy sink?

The Greek economy is entering its fifth year of decline. Nominal gross domestic product is about 28 percent lower than it was four years ago. The official unemployment rate is 27.5 percent (as though the decimal point matters, given the poor quality of the data).

The unemployment rate for young people is about 60 percent. Nonperforming loans continue to rise. The privatization program continues to fail, in part because of an absence of bidders.

In a paper posted earlier this month, leading Greek economist Yanis Varoufakis of the University of Athens and the University of Texas at Austin argues Greece is "a failed social economy." The following are several of his examples:

A PHYSICIAN’S VIEW ON THE SANCTITY OF LIFE

My entire professional life has been devoted to saving and enhancing lives. Thus, the thought of abortion for the sake of convenience does not appeal to me. I have personally met several people who have told me that their mothers had considered abortion, but happily decided against it.

Most of us instinctively want to protect helpless creatures and sometimes go to great lengths to do so. The television commercials about abused animals are very poignant and as a society, we sometimes delay or cancel large construction projects to protect an "endangered" insect, amphibian or fish.

Yet many of us turn a blind eye to the wanton slaughter of millions of helpless human babies who are much more sophisticated than some of the other creatures, when nothing is at stake other than the convenience of one or both parents. I am not saying that we should abandon our efforts to save baby seals and a host of other animals.

Rather I am saying shouldn't we consider adding human fetuses and babies to the list?

DINOSAURS, DEMOCRACIES, AND THE DEEP STATE

Sofia, Bulgaria.  Today (7/10) is the 27th straight day of anti-government protests here in Bulgaria's capital.

If you look at the picture in the Euronews story about yesterday's protest, you'll notice that the folks marching down Vitosha Street aren't a bunch of Occupy moocher-hippies.  These are regular middle-class folks of all ages, Bulgarian Tea Partyers, totally fed up with endemic government corruption that seems impossible to get rid of.

One of Bulgaria's neighbors is Turkey, where similar anti-government protests have been going on since early June as well.  On Monday (7/08), police fired teargas and water cannons at protestors in Istanbul.

There have been massive anti-government protests for over a month in up to 100 cities in Brazil.  We all know what's going in Egypt, where tens of millions demanded the removal of an Islamist sharia tyranny, and got it.  But now what?

And now what for the US?  Zero's Police State America expands exponentially by the day, we have the most corrupt and oppressive government in our nation's history by far - and where are the folks in the streets like here in Bulgaria, or Turkey or Brazil?  I hear crickets instead.  Yet there's no doubt the seething and frustration is reaching a boiling point.

Is there something in common, some universal irritation, that causing all of this? Perhaps.  First, however, we need to get rid of a metaphor.

COMMENCEMENT 2010

[This commencement address was originally published five years ago. We  rerun it annually at college graduation time. Feel quite free to send this to any recent college graduate you may know.]

Mr. Chancellor, Members of the Board of Regents, Members of the Faculty, Honored Graduates, Families and Friends:

It's funny that they call this ceremony a Commencement, for you've all reached the finish line:  college, goodbye, we're outta here.  Yet of course, "commencement" means a beginning, not an end.

But one is supposed to at least start - commence - a talk such as this by saying funny things.  So I'll start by talking about Clark Gable movies.  If you've heard of Clark Gable at all, you know he was the biggest movie star in Hollywood a long time ago.  His most famous movie was Gone With The Wind.

He made a movie in 1955 called The Tall Men with Jane Russell as his girlfriend and Robert Ryan as the heavy.  It's a pretty ordinary Western flick with outlaws and cowboys and Indians - and at the end, Ryan, the bad guy, and his henchmen get the drop on Gable, the good guy, and all seems lost.  Suddenly, surprise, Gable outfoxes Ryan and triumphs.  Gable makes his exit, and after he does, Ryan delivers a line that I want you to never forget.

Serendipity is funny, a very funny thing, finding something where you least expect it.  Out of the blue, out of a movie awash with pedestrian dialogue, comes a line so profound it detonates inside your brain. Ryan turns to his men and says:

HELPING RAMOS AND COMPEAN HAVE A HAPPIER CHRISTMAS

For many conservatives, the most infuriating outrage of the Bush Presidency has been the prosecution and imprisonment of two Border Patrol agents, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, for shooting a Mexican drug smuggler in the ass.

It is the drug smuggler, Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila, and the federal prosecutor, Johnny Sutton, who belong in jail, not them.

For defending our border from mass foreign invasion, Ramos and Compean will be spending Christmas in solitary confinement, rather than with their families.

It's hard to think of a more Christian, a more pro-American thing you could do this Christmas than send them a message of support and a donation to their wives and children.

Here's how:

THE AUDACITY OF APOSTASY

One of the most entertaining opportunities that will emerge in 2007 will be using Barack Obama to fight Islamofascism.

He is the product of a black Moslem from Kenya, Barrack Hussein Obama, and a white atheist from Kansas, Shirley Ann Dunham, who met at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.  That is why his middle name is the same as Saddam's:  Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.

His first name is taken from the Islamic term in Arabic for "blessed," baraka, used in the Koran.

His father deserted the family when Barack Jr. was two and returned to Kenya.  His mother then married another Moslem studying at UH, Lolo Soetoro from Indonesia.  He moved with his mother and stepfather to Jakarta when he was six, where he attended a Moslem medressa (religious school).

That makes him a Moslem.  That he denies that he ever was and is a Christian instead makes him, in Moslem eyes, also something much worse:  an apostate.  Apostasy in Islam is punishable by death.

IT’S THE TERRORISM, NOT THE NUKES, IN IRAN

This in from al-Reuters:

Iraqi and U.S. troops battled Shi'ite militiamen in a village northeast of Baghdad on Thursday...Iraqi security officials said IRANIAN FIGHTERS HAD BEEN CAPTURED IN THE FIGHTING (emphasis added)...The U.S. military had no immediate comment.
In recent days there have been several stories further documenting the Iranian role in the terror war in Iraq, especially in the south, where Tehran has been working assiduously for several years to create a regional Islamic republic. So the al-Reuters report should not be a surprise.

But it gives us the opportunity to reflect on three serious questions, none of which has been sufficiently integrated into our national debate on the war:
