THE CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY OF GLOBAL WARMING

This is what they did - these climate "scientists" on whose unsupported word the world's classe politique proposes to set up an unelected global government this December in Copenhagen.

An unelected global government with vast and unprecedented powers to control all formerly free markets, to tax wealthy nations and all of their financial transactions, to regulate the economic and environmental affairs of all nations, and to confiscate and extinguish all patent and intellectual property rights.

The tiny, close-knit clique of climate scientists who invented and now drive the "global warming" fraud - for fraud is what we now know it to be  - tampered with temperature data so assiduously that, on the recent admission of one of them, land temperatures since 1980 have risen twice as fast as ocean temperatures.

Now we know why: As a revealing 15,000-line document from the computer division at the Climate Research Unit shows, the programs and data are a hopeless, tangled mess. In effect, the global temperature trends have simply been made up.

WHY WOULD OBAMA BE ON THE SIDE OF THE DYING REGIME IN IRAN?

Late last month, something went seriously wrong in the underground tunnels beneath the Iranian nuclear enrichment facility at Natanz.  I don't know if it was an explosion, on-site sabotage, an accident, or a cyber attack, but eight people were killed, and several others are being treated for irradiation.  The tunnel leading to the damaged sector has been walled off.

And another disaster, several days earlier, took place at the heavy-water facility at Arak, whose existence has been public knowledge since the mid-nineties. Along with the explosion in a gas line leading to a new, secret, nuclear facility in a mountain near Fordow, this makes three setbacks to the Iranian regime's nuclear program.

Maybe their feng shui has gone negative in anticipation  of the oft-dreaded Year of the Snake, but whatever the explanation - no doubt the supreme leader sees the omnipresent satanic activity of the Jews hard at work - things are not going swimmingly for the terror masters in Tehran.

Why, then, would Obama lead from his behind and support them?

HALF-FULL REPORT 05/25/12

For the first time ever, the HFR Hero of the Week is a dyed-in-the-wool Dem. A bio summary:

Played varsity football at and graduated from Stanford, Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, Yale Law School J.D.  Home town controlled by corrupt Dem crooks, ran against the machine, elected mayor in 2006, had previous crook mayor prosecuted who was sent to federal prison.

City one of the most crime-infested in America, as mayor he reduces murder rate to lowest since 1941.  Saves a woman's life whose home was on fire, suffering second-degree burns.  Reelected to second term in 2010, numerous awards for city's progress on economic revival and reducing drugs, crime and unemployment.
On Sunday, May 20, he appeared on NBC's Meet The Press, denouncing on national television Zero's Romney-is-a-vampire campaign ad as "nauseating":

"We're getting to a ridiculous point in America. I live in a state where pension funds, unions and other people invest in companies like Bain Capital. If you look at the totality of Bain Capital's record, they've done a lot to support businesses, to grow businesses.  This kind of stuff is nauseating to me."

Yes, he's the Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, Cory Booker.  Another disaster week for President Cowpie.

DEMOCRATS AND AMERICA’S FINANCIAL DESTRUCTION

Last week (12/28), the Financial Times announced, "China has again outshone the U.S. as the top venue for IPOs, initial public offerings." How is it that since 2008, a self-proclaimed communist country raises more capital and has more new firms going public than the great bastion of free-market capitalism, the United States?

Answer: Members of Congress have been killing the U.S. financial markets because of hubris, incompetence and a lust for power and money.

The official Washington line has been that it was "Wall Street" that caused the Great Recession. Thanks largely to the tireless efforts of a former general counsel of the Treasury, Peter Wallison, and his American Enterprise Institute colleague Edward Pinto, we now know the financial crisis would not have occurred but for government housing policy implemented principally through Fannie and Freddie and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

And that government housing policy was created by Democrats in Congress.

GORILLAS, SAVAGES, AND REDEMPTION

Hotel Mille des Collines, Kigali, Rwanda.  Ever see the movie Hotel Rwanda?  It's about the manager of a hotel in Africa who did his best to provide a refuge from one of the greatest atrocities in history - the slaughter of over 800,000 innocent people in 100 days.  I'm writing this from that hotel.

This is a story of grotesque horror and magnificent inspiration.  Let's start with a question:  Which one is the murderous savage?

r-gorilla1.jpg
r-savage.jpg

Hint:  gorillas are vegetarians.

I took the bull silverback gorilla's picture two days ago on the slopes of the Gahinga volcano in the Virunga mountains of Rwanda.  He paid almost no attention to me at all.

The picture of the guy with the "panga" knife was taken in 1994 by a journalist who was lucky he wasn't hacked to death - like hundreds of thousands of others butchered by this guy and his buddies.  Sure enough, he's the savage.

Yet the savages of Rwanda are not all natives, for this is a story of Belgian and French savages as well, with one of the latter being the president of his country at the time.

IS THERE ANOTHER GOVERNOR LIKE SARAH PALIN?

The last 45 of my 66 years I've spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska. I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here's the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it. It's not about persona, style, rhetoric, it's about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I'm about to mention here.

1- Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governor's office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republican's "Corrupt Bastards Club" (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and wearing orange jump suits.

The Democrats reacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing "la la la la" (well, you know how they are). Name another governor in this country that has ever done anything similar. But while you're thinking, I'll continue.

WHY CHINA WILL NEVER CATCH THE UNITED STATES

The reason in a nutshell?  China's vast reserve of cheap workers in the hinterland is vanishing at a vertiginous pace.

We can now discern more or less when the catch-up growth miracle will sputter out. Another seven years or so -- enough to buoy global coal, crude, and copper prices for a while -- but then it will all be over. China's demographic dividend will be exhausted.

Beijing revealed last week that the country's working age population has already begun to shrink, sooner than expected. It will soon go into "precipitous decline," according to the International Monetary Fund.

Japan hit this inflexion point fourteen years ago, but by then it was already rich, with $3 trillion of net savings overseas. China has hit the wall a quarter century earlier in its development path.

The ageing crisis is well-known. It is already six years since a Chinese demographer shocked Davos with a warning that his country might have to resort to mass suicide in the end, shoving pensioners onto the ice.

Less known is the parallel - and linked - labor drain in the countryside. A new IMF paper - "Chronicle of a Decline Foretold: Has China Reached the Lewis Turning Point?" - says the reserve army of peasants looking for work peaked in 2010 at around 150 million. The numbers are now collapsing.

HALF-FULL REPORT 05/18/12

The news is getting so unrelentingly good it's making me nervous.  Might as well revel in the good stuff before we talk about why.

Tuesday (5/15) was Sarah Palin Day in Nebraska.  Actually, it was Deb Fischer's day, thanks to Sarah who had endorsed her US Senate candidacy just a week before.  She was an unknown underfinanced state senator given no chance to beat two prominent statewide officials, one of whom was the darling of the GOP establishment.

Then Mama Grizzly showed up...

The news is even more enjoyable in Wisconsin, where the public unionistas and local Dems are spitting mad over the DNC (Dem national committee) refusing to waste a dime on the Walker recall....

For a really good time, though, we go to North Carolina, where an incredible litany of woes for President Evolve is erupting....

Then there's President Amateur, President Born In Kenya, and, oh, yes, President PW....

A POTENTIALLY BETTER YEAR?

Even though some are predicting the end of the world in 2012, there is a possibility it could turn out better than 2011 (a low bar). Many people who are not part of the political class continue to advance civilization and make things better for us -- like the late Steve Jobs.

Potential good news is that not all members of the political class are unprincipled, self-serving, ignorant and shortsighted. We are seeing a growing band of smart, responsible and knowledgeable people being elected to Congress and other political bodies. One example is Rep. Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, who is chairman of the House Budget Committee.

In democratic countries, many politicians get themselves elected by making promises for spending programs that the citizens cannot or are unwilling to pay for. The result is persistent deficit spending that ultimately spirals out of control. The good news is that some democratic countries have learned how to avoid the spending/deficit trap, and those countries can serve as examples for the less prudent majority. (See chart below.)

THE NEWEST AFRICAN FARCE

Juba, South Sudan.  The first thing you see upon arriving here are huge billboards declaring, "Welcome to Africa's Newest Nation."

Yes, the giant country of Sudan - the size of the entire USA east of the Mississippi - is splitting in two, between the Arab Moslem north and the Black Christian/Animist south.  It's a teachable moment in the lunatic history of African geopolitics.

There are make-believe countries, colonial constructs that have no unifying or historical basis for legitimate nationhood - such as Pakistan.  Africa is a make-believe continent.

Few people grasp the enormity, the sheer size of Africa. Take a look at a world map. It is as far from Casablanca, Morocco to Mombassa, Kenya as it is from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok in Russia (4,000 miles).

You could fit the largest country in the world, Russia (6.6 million square miles or msqm), the second largest country in the world, Canada (3.85 msqm), and the largest island in the world, Greenland (840,000 sqm) all into Africa (11.7 msqm) with room left over.

Yet until around 150 years ago, it was called the Dark Continent not just for the skin color of its inhabitants but because, save for a handful of ports and coastal enclaves, it was unknown, terra incognita to the West.

Then, in 1859...

AMERICAS FUTURE AND THE EAST COAST

Wasilla, Alaska.  As I stand here in a high school gymnasium watching freshmen girls' basketball games, I'm struck by the sight of America's future right in front of me - these tenacious young women full of energy and intensity. I want them to realize every opportunity this great, free nation can provide.

There are big political races on the East Coast that are coming down to the wire - the results of which will impact policies and political actions that touch all of us in every state.

Like other independent Americans, I don't always see eye-to-eye with Republican political committees, so when I tell you that the Republican Governors Association has my complete support and confidence in its campaign efforts back East, know that I really mean it.

The RGA is helping lead the conservative comeback beginning this year, and its involvement in the East Coast races is significant. Let's consider the governor's race in New Jersey.

WHAT WE HAVE IN COMMON WITH MONARCH BUTTERFLIES

You've probably heard of the spectacular migrations of hundreds of millions of monarch butterflies, which home in on one small region of Mexico for the winter then return as far north as Canada in a flight of thousands of miles that takes more than one generation. Clearly the insects have an inherited "map" of where to go, but what compass do they use?

It seems they have at least two compasses. One is a "time-compensated sun compass," located in their antennae, which calculates bearings from the angle of the sun corrected for the time of day.

But butterflies can also use the Earth's magnetic field to navigate. The butterfly antennae contain a protein molecule called cryptochrome, which can apparently act as a magnetic compass when exposed to blue or violet light. Human beings and other mammals also have a cryptochrome in their retinas, albeit in slightly different form, but until recently it was thought not to have magnetic directional properties.

Recently Dr. Steven M. Reppert of the University of Massachusetts Medical School and his colleagues took the human version of the gene that's the recipe for cryptochrome and genetically engineered it into flies, replacing the flies' own version. They then showed that, presented with two routes in a maze, the flies could choose a magnetic direction they had been trained to associate with a sugar reward, and they did so just as well with the "human" cryptochrome as with their own.

If it is at least possible to use our cryptochrome molecules to sense direction from the Earth's magnetic field, do we?

HALF-FULL REPORT 05/11/12

It's early morning, but I know it's going to be a long day - and a fun one.  How so much cool stuff can get crammed into a single week, and how I can concisely fit it all into this HFR, is bewildering.  Sit back and enjoy.  Off we go.

This was a baaaaaaad-to-the-bone week for Zero and the Dems.  May 8th was Black Tuesday for them, simply disastrous.

In Wisconsin, the desperate last gasp of the public unions to keep their gravy train rolling went right off the rails.  Gov. Scott Walker, whom they are rabidly trying to recall, got more votes in his primary than the two main Dems got in theirs combined

In West Virginia, Zero lost 42% of the vote in the Democrat Presidential Primary to a fellow named Keith Judd.  Keith is not from West Virginia.  He currently lives in Texas, where he resides at the Texarkana Federal Prison as Inmate 11593-051.

In Judd's bio on VoteSmart, he lists his religion as "Rastafarian-Christian," and his mother as actress Lillian Russell, who died in 1922.  He was born in 1958.  Obviously, no West Virginian voted for this weirdo, they voted against Zero.  Why?  Because they hate his guts.  Zero is destroying their state with his religious war against coal.

Something this absurd is more than a humiliating joke upon President Gutsy Call.  It's a portent. Tens of millions of Americans in every state are West Virginians now.  They hate Zero's guts for what he has done to their country and what he has done to their lives and livelihoods.  They would vote for Keith Judd, Mickey Mouse, or a Yellow Dog before voting for him.

THE HISTORICAL EVIDENCE: MORE GOVERNMENT SPENDING KILLS JOBS

Do increases in government spending increase or decrease the number of jobs?

Conventional wisdom is they will increase jobs, and a few left-wing economists, such as Paul Krugman of the New York Times, frequently are trotted out by reckless politicians and some in the news media to argue that we need more government spending in order to create jobs.

If this were true, we should be able to see it in the historical evidence, so let's look at the numbers.

Government spending grows each year, but what is relevant is whether it is increasing or decreasing as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) and how it relates to the percentage of the adult labor force at work. As can be seen in the chart below , since 1929 there is an inverse relationship between increasing the size of government and job creation.

THE BLACK NORKS OF ERITREA

Asmara, Eritrea.  I came here to see if the rumor is true, that Eritrea is the North Korea of Africa.

Strategically situated at the entrance to Red Sea, it's ruled by Isaias Afewerki (ah-for-key), ranked by international agencies as one of the world's worst dictators, in the same league as Robert Mugabe, Kim Jong-il, and the Castro brothers.

The Heritage Foundation's Index of World Freedom ranks Eritrea #176 out of 179 countries.  Transparency International's Index of Corruption ranks it as one of the world's most corrupt countries.  Reporters Without Borders' Press Freedom Index ranks it as having the least press freedom on earth along with North Korea.

There are a number of exile opposition groups, in Europe, the US, and elsewhere in Africa that are clamoring and hoping for a Tunis or Cairo in Asmara - a popular revolution that will do to Afewerki what happened to Ben Ali and Mubarak.

Possible but exceedingly improbable.  And therein lies an important lesson for us as we try to recapture our freedom in America.
