PALIN AND THE PROMISE OF AMERICA’S FUTURE

Today, the seventh anniversary of the Islamofascist attack on America of September 11, 2001, we look back to commemorate the lives of our fellow Americans taken by Moslem terrorism on that horrible day.

We need also to look back in deepest gratitude for President George Bush and all those in his administration whose Herculean efforts to prevent another such attack upon us have succeeded.  It is an incredible accomplishment.

Having done so, today is also a good time to look forward, to reflect upon the vastly different futures America faces, based upon what choice her voters make 54 days from now.

I won't waste much time on the disaster that future would be for both America and the world should that choice be Barack Hussein Obama.  Government spending and taxes would explode, the Dow would fall off a cliff, every dirtbag dictator in the world from Putin to Chavez would expand their power as America became indistinguishable from Euroweenia.

I could go on adding to this list of calamities foreign and domestic, but we needn't bother, though, because this future is not going to happen.  America's future lies with Sarah Palin and not a lightweight loser who will be lucky to carry California.

So let's look at what the promise of that future might be.

THE AGE OF DISSIMULATION

Today, practically, the only individuals willing to speak honestly about who Islamic supremacists are and what they want are the Islamic supremacists themselves.

For instance, in an interview last week with Reuters, the Islamic supremacist Hamas movement's "foreign minister" Mahmoud al- Zahar told the Christian West, "You do not live like human beings. You do not [even] live like animals. You accept homosexuality. And now you criticize us?"

Al-Zahar also made the case for Islamic feminism. As he put it, "We are the ones who respect women and honor women ... not you. You use women as an animal. She has one husband and hundreds of thousands of boyfriends. You don't know who is the father of your sons, because of the way you respect women."

HALF-FULL REPORT 02/19/10

Jaime Glazov, managing editor of Front Page, is a friend and all-around good guy - but his diatribe on Moslems hating Valentine's Day is proof he's never been to Bahrain.

I just took this picture in a Bahraini shopping mall:

bahrain_v-day_2.jpg

What Jaime says about Valentine's being hated by Jihadis and banned in Saudi Arabia is certainly true.  But Moslems in places like Bahrain and Qatar (both of which border Saudi) love to celebrate it and are free to.

It's seriously counter-productive not to make and promote the distinction.  It's a serious mistake to paint all Moslems with a Jihadi brush.  The gulf between Jihadis and Moslems who just want to live normal lives needs to be widened, not narrowed.  Jaime gives the impression he's unaware of the very existence of the gulf.  Correcting this impression is something he might consider.

HEALTH CARE AND THE DISEASE OF WASHINGTONOSIS

Washingtonosis (n): A disease most often found in people working within three miles of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, although pockets also are found in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

It tends to infect elected officials, government bureaucrats, those working in the media, "government relations specialists," association executives and even top corporate executives.

Symptoms include an overwhelming desire to associate and be seen with those in power or those perceived to have power and/or fame. Those infected tend to lose judgment, values, principles and sense of honesty as well as common sense.

Last week, officials of the American Medical Association (AMA) revealed that they had caught the disease. They endorsed the House version of the health care bill even though it would reduce the incomes of many of their members, restrict their freedom to practice medicine as they think best and limit choices for their patients.

GLOBAL WARMING AND BLACK HOLES: THE PARANOIA CONNECTION

That the Farmer's Almanac is now predicting global cooling is a pretty good indication that the glo-warming hysteria is coming to an end.  The "warming crisis" the media has incessantly tried to shove down people's throats is of little concern to voters.  All polls show it is at or near the bottom of voter concerns, and it is rarely addressed by politicians seeking their votes.

Which may help to explain the media's current attempt at paranoia-mongering:  spreading fears that the entire earth may be swallowed up by a man-made black hole in Switzerland.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) near Geneva is the largest and most complex machine ever built.  Physicists hope to simulate the conditions of the "Big Bang" that created the universe.  Such a simulation, the worry goes, could create a tiny black hole that could suck in nearby matter, growing with incredible speed and size until it sucked in and destroyed our entire planet.

Here are two reasons why the paranoia is misplaced and will have to wander off to find another target.

THE SCOTT BROWN PRECEDENT AND ISRAEL

Last year, in an attempt to block Obama's plan to nationalize healthcare, Massachusetts voters elected Republican Scott Brown to the Senate. Brown was elected because he pledged to block Obamacare in the US Senate.

Rather than heed the voters' message and abandon his plans, Obama abandoned the voters. Instead of accepting his defeat, Obama changed the rules of the game and bypassed the Senate.

So it is safe to assume that for the next two years, Obama will do everything he can to bypass the Congress and govern by executive orders and regulations. Although much can be done in this fashion, Congress's control of the purse strings will check his domestic agenda.

In matters of foreign policy however, Obama will be less burdened by - but not immune - to Congressional oversight. We can therefore expect him to devote far more energy to foreign affairs in the next two years than he devoted in the last two years.

This bodes ill for Israel.

HALF-FULL REPORT 02/12/10

Happy Valentine's Day!  I am far away from my Valentine of almost three decades, as this Sunday the 14th I'll be in Bahrain, but we'll celebrate the love we've shared for all these years as soon as I get back home.

For those of you lucky to be home with a loved one, taking the time to celebrate that love is certainly worth devoting this coming Sunday to.  It's also worth devoting a bit of time today reflecting on a common love all us TTPers share - our love of our country, the United States of America.

Being outside the US always gives you a special appreciation of our country.  America has put itself through troubling and dangerous times recently, but I am becoming more confident by the day that these times are coming to an end...

Now for a personal note of appreciation to all of you who sent me condolences for the passing of my friend, Charlie Wilson.  As many of you know, Charlie was my best man at my wedding with Rebel, and we worked closely together on Reagan Doctrine strategies to terminate the existence of the Soviet Union.

For the story regarding this, see Charlie Wilson and Ronald Reagan's War from December 2007.  It will give you insights on what really happened - and what the book and movie Charley Wilson's War got right and what it got very wrong.  Plus there are some great pictures of Charlie.

CONSEQUENCES AND FREEDOM

Las Vegas, Nevada.  How old were you before you realized your actions could result in unintended consequences?

Men create democratic governments to protect life, liberty and property. Yet much of what modern government does daily has the largely unintended consequence of endangering and/or reducing all three.

Taxes reduce liberty and often erode the value of property. Most regulations reduce liberty and some erode property values and even endanger life. We now spend much of our lives trying to figure out how to reduce our tax burdens and to comply with never-ending government regulations and forms.

Most of those who enter government, either as elected politicians or bureaucrats, do not start out to deliberately erode basic freedoms and property rights, but all too many in the political class act like children -- irresponsibly and thoughtlessly.

SARAH! A SURPRISE TO THE WORLD BUT NOT TO TTP’ERS

What did that guy say standing in front of that phony cardboard Greek Temple a couple of nights ago in Denver?  Nobody remembers, nobody cares.  Because everybody is talking about somebody else, the most exciting political surprise of modern times.

In fact, the only people on earth not surprised were readers of To The Point.

On June 4, 2008, TTP's Jack Kelly - whom TTP'ers in the Forum have now dubbed "Nostradamus" - wrote Fire and Nice for McCain's VP.  Her high school basketball teammates called her Sarah Barracuda.  Her fellow beauty contestants for Miss Alaska named her Miss Congeniality.

Fire & Nice.  Nostradamus Kelly takes political acumen and prescience to a whole new level.  Isn't it odd that a VP pick now being universally described by conservatives as "brilliant" and "inspired" came as such as surprise.  Well, we at To The Point are happy to describe Jack Nostradamus Kelly as brilliant and inspired!

So - the first question that comes to mind to ask Dems and Omaniacs is:   Do you have any idea how large a full-grown bull moose is?

HALF-FULL REPORT 02/05/10

While Remember The Alamo tried to be a good synopsis of our memorable Rendezvous in San Antone, I saved the best line of the event for the HFR.

After all the dystopian discussion of how the Dems are driving us into financial ruin, Jack Kelly announced in his presentation:  "There's a lot of talk nowadays about America becoming a banana republic.  Here's the reality, folks - the whole world is becoming a banana republic."

Kelly's prophecy came quickly into sharper focus this week.  Big time.

After a 853-point drop since Jan. 19, the Dow is plunging over the 10,000-point precipice.  Greece, as the HFR has been predicting, is dragging the Euro into a deep hole.  Next to fall in are Spain and Portugal.

And now comes China.

THE FED’S FISCAL ARSONISTS

The Fed is supposed to provide the United States with stable currency yet it now takes $21.60 to equal the purchasing power of $1 in 1913, the year the Fed was established.

(In the 124 years prior to the founding of the Fed, there was almost no permanent change in the purchasing power of the dollar. There was some inflation during the Civil War, which was offset by a slow deflation in the 40 years after the war.)

The Fed is supposed to regulate the banking system to provide financial stability, yet far more banks have failed since the Fed was created, and events of the past year illustrate how the Fed has failed at providing financial stability.

The Fed has become like a large fire department that has a fixed percentage of its employees who are arsonists, so as it gets bigger, there are always more fires. Yet the politicians call for an even bigger fire department (or Fed) rather than a smaller one that has rid itself of the arsonists. (The same can be said of most of government.)

If we can't get rid of the Fed entirely, can we at least get rid of its arsonists?

THE THREE WORD SOLUTION

Solution to what?  Defeating Russian imperialism, defeating Saudi Wahhabism and Moslem terrorism, defeating Moslem crazies in Iran making nukes, defeating Luddite environmentalists, defeating Democrats determined to hamstring our economy and national security.

How's that for starters?  What would do all of this?  Three words:  crash oil prices.

Crashing oil prices to, say, below $40 a barrel, should therefore be the number one priority of American national security.

Yet any attempt to lower oil prices is blocked by Democrats in Congress and lawsuits by their environmentalist allies.  Exhibit A as evidence is their hysterical refusal to allow oil and gas drilling in Alaska and offshore.  Exhibit B is their hysterical refusal to allow the construction of new oil refineries - there hasn't been a new one built since 1976.

So - is there something the President could do, is there an Executive Order he could issue, that could circumvent Congress and the enviro-lawyers to crash oil prices?

Let's start answering with another question:  Who is the single biggest purchaser of oil in the world?

THE INCREASING IRRELEVANCE OF ISRAEL’S OPPOSITION

Olmert's and Livni's assaults on Netanyahu made clear that like most of their colleagues on the Left, they believe that relations between countries and relations between governments are the same thing.  Leaders of the Israeli left believe the major determinant in the quality of the U.S.-Israeli relationship is the view of the U.S. president.

Luckily for Israel, Livni, Olmert and the Left they represent have no idea what they are talking about.
As a poll released last week makes clear, Americans are far more likely to ditch leaders they believe are harming the US-Israel alliance than they are to ditch the alliance.

HALF-FULL REPORT 01/29/10

Amidst all the catcalls and raspberries directed at Zero's SOTU speech this week - Fred Barnes called it the "least fresh" and most cliché-ridden such speech in over 30 years - I must admit I thought it was great.  Perfect, in fact.  We couldn't have asked for anything better.

As Forrest Gump observed, "Stupid is as stupid does."  It doesn't get much stupider than to ignore the First Rule of Holes - when you're in a hole, stop digging - except to insist that the way to get out of the hole is to keep digging ever more feverishly, and to blame everyone but yourself for the hole you're in.

The SOTU speech confirmed that we have a narcissistic fool for a president - all ego and no brains.   He is, with stupidly obdurate stubbornness, going to keep doing exactly what has caused his agenda to fail and his approval ratings to sink ever lower.

This almost guarantees that he will keep his party on the path to electoral disaster in November.  How could we ask for more?  Well, here's how.

ARE THEY IDIOTS, OR DO THEY HAVE ANOTHER AGENDA?

Why did a bare majority (219-212) of the members of the U.S. Congress vote for the largest tax increase in American history this past Friday, under the claim it was a vote to save the climate?

There is no consensus in the scientific community about how much climate change, other than the normal cycles, is taking place, nor how severe it will be, and how much man-made CO2 is responsible.

It is known that the legislation will have a negligible effect on global CO2 emissions, particularly since the big polluters, such as China and India, are not playing ball. It is also known that the "cap and trade" system that the legislation calls for has been a failure in Europe.

In sum, serious people understand the legislation will hurt the U.S. economy, reduce the standard of living and yet not accomplish its claimed intent; therefore, why were so many members of Congress willing to vote for it?

Are they idiots, or do they have another agenda?
