ISLAM IS COMING FOR AMERICA JUST AS IT HAS COME FOR EUROPE

[Last Saturday (6/30), Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders delivered this speech at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver, Colorado.]

Thank you, dear friends, ladies and gentlemen, for inviting me to the Western Conservative Summit. It is always a pleasure to come to America. I was here a few weeks ago to meet with my dear friend, congresswoman Michele Bachmann, to talk about Islam and the threat to America and Europe.

I feel honored to have been invited to address you today about the situation in Europe and in particular in my own country, the Netherlands. This situation serves as a warning to what might happen in America if you fail to be vigilant.

For make no mistake: Islam is also coming for America. Indeed, it has already arrived. Your country, too, is facing a stealth jihad - an Islamic attempt to introduce Sharia law bit by bit.

Islam demands separate campus housing for Moslems; Islam demands that women have separate hours in gyms and swimming pools; schools are banning Christmas celebrations and are taking pork off their cafeteria menus to avoid offending Moslem students. And courts - even in America, we have seen an example in Florida - have begun to apply Sharia law.

Be aware that this is only the beginning.

WHAT PRO-GOVERNMENT ECONOMISTS CANNOT SEE

Former Vice Chairman of the Federal Reserve Alan Blinder wrote an article in the Wall Street Journal this past  week (6/21) attacking Republicans who have said that more government spending will kill jobs.

In the same vein, my old friend Bruce Bartlett, a Treasury official in the George H.W. Bush administration, wrote an article attacking former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and other Republicans for claiming the Reagan tax cuts paid for themselves.

(Note: Mr. Bartlett used to be a supply-side advocate, but in the past few years, he has become an almost full-time Republican basher and, not surprisingly, now writes for the New York Times.)

Mr. Blinder, Mr. Bartlett and others of their stripe no longer seem to be able to see beyond the first-order effects of an economic policy. That is why they are always dead wrong.

HOW CORRUPT IS THE AFGHAN GOVERNMENT OUR SOLDIERS ARE DYING FOR?

Almost every story about Afghanistan you read nowadays mentions how "corrupt" the Afghan government in Kabul is - and then moves on, rarely citing any real specifics.

So let's get granular with the gory details of just how corrupt, crooked, and criminal the Karzai regime is for which tens of thousands of American soldiers are risking their lives to keep in power.

The regime is led by Hamid Karzai and three of his six brothers, Mahmoud, Qayum, and Ahmad Wali (known by his initials, AWK).  The Karzai family are tribal leaders of the Popalzai clan of Pushtuns, which is centered in Kandahar.  AWK runs Kandahar for the regime, while the other three are in Kabul.

The Karzais are the beneficial owners of a number of private banks in Kabul through which they launder money from bribes, extortion, protection rackets, aid money theft, and heroin smuggling.  The banks are...

ISLAMOFASCISM THROUGH THE FINANCIAL BACK-DOOR

Since September 11, 2001, the men and women of the U.S. Department of the Treasury have worked tirelessly to identify and cut off sources of financing for terrorist organizations and other threats to our national security.

However, their efforts are now taking place alongside an emerging financial trend that could threaten our national security in ways not yet fully grasped: the penetration of Islamofascism-tainted countries and radical Islamists themselves into Western financial markets and other Western strategic industries.

The problem consists of two elements.

HILLARY’S WAR ON DELAY

The most powerful Congressmen have, in addition to their regular offices in one of the House Office Buildings (Cannon, Longworth, or Rayburn) on the south side of Capitol Hill, a private office in the Capitol itself. It was in such an office earlier this week that I asked a member of the House leadership about the MSM (mainstream media)/Democrat vendetta against his colleague, Tom DeLay.

“Hillary’s fingerprints are all over it,” came his response. “She has no intention of having to deal with an opposition party controlling the House as her husband did for six years and Ronald Reagan did for eight. She has a very clear plan for seizing control of the entire United States government, which includes orchestrating Democrat control of the House in 2006 so it is firmly in place when she is elected president in 2008.”

It is, then, at Hillary’s direction that the Washington Post, the New York Times, and the entire Liberal Media apparatus are waging a relentless war upon House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

THE LOGISTICS OF CRUDE

Last week in Part 1 of this series, The Dynamics of Crude, we discussed refineries and products.  Now we move to Logistics of Crude Oil and Refinery Products.

Although Ayn Rand's 1957 novel "Atlas Shrugged" portrayed rail as important, especially for Wyatt's Refinery, rail was on its way out by the end of WWII.  Today's major transportation methods are via pipeline and water (barge & ship).  The reason is quite simple: loading and receiving infrastructure.

Here is a great description of both crude oil and refined product pipelines from 2001:  How Pipelines Make the Oil Market Work.

I have read lots of supposedly learned pundits wailing away how Warren Buffett and BNSF Railroad are going transport all that Canadian crude oil when Obama announced that he was blocking the Keystone XL's construction.  This is impossibly dumb -so dumb that Jack Wheeler is convinced it isn't dumb at all, that it's a crony capitalist payoff to Buffett for his supporting Zero.  Buffett bought BNSF for $34 billion in 2009, counting on graft from Zero to provide his ROI.

KINKY ON PERRY

Rick Perry has never lost an election; I've never won one. Maybe that's what's wrong with the world. On the other hand, I've long been friends with Bill Clinton and George W., and Rick Perry and I, though at times bitter adversaries, have remained friends as well.

It's not always easy to maintain friendships with politicians. To paraphrase Charles Lamb, you have to work at it like some men toil after virtue.

Yet, simply put, Rick Perry and I are incapable of resisting each other's charm. He is not only a good sport, he is a good, kindhearted man, and he once sat in on drums with ZZ Top. A guy like that can't be all bad.

These days, of course, I would support Charlie Sheen over Obama. Obama has done for the economy what pantyhose did for foreplay.

WHAT AMERICA COULD LEARN FROM ESTONIA

Tallinn, Estonia.  Most Eastern European countries that were controlled by the communists have had successful political/economic transitions and are far more prosperous than they were two decades ago - but none has come as far as Estonia.

The Estonians are closely related to the Finns, and their languages are close as well. Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is only about 50 miles from Helsinki, the capital of Finland, and they are in commuting distance by hydrofoil across the Gulf of Finland.

Before the Soviet Union conquered Estonia in 1939, the Estonians and Finns had close to the same standard of living. But the Finns were able to maintain their freedom by conducting a vigorous defense against the Soviet invasion in 1939.

Ever since they regained their freedom in 1991, as a result of undertaking the most radical free-market reforms of any of the transition countries, the Estonians have been gaining on their Finnish neighbors, who also have continued to do well, and now have about two-thirds of the per capita income of the average Finn.  Today they have a lot to teach us.

THE DOORMAT OF EMPIRES

I couldn't agree with Jack Kelly more in his approval of Zero's firing General McChrystal.

Stanley McChrystal is an insufferably arrogant putz whose criminally stupid Rules of Engagement in Afghanistan deserve more than being relieved of his command.

They deserve a court-martial and prison.  His "courageous restraint"  ROE's are directly responsible for getting our soldiers killed.  He thinks the lives of Afghans are more important to save than Americans.  As of last week, one of those Americans fighting and risking their lives to bring freedom to Afghanistan - and one of those lives McChrystal's political correctness is jeopardizing - is my son.

Afghanistan is personal - for me, and because of 9/11, it should be for all Americans.

Here we'll dispense with the idiotically ignorant myth that Afghanistan is the "Graveyard of Empires."  Afghanistan has been steamrollered by conquerors for millennia.  Then, next week, we'll discuss how easy it would be for us to do so and why it's important that we do.

In 327 BC, Alexander the Great married a beautiful princess named Roxanne in Balkh, capital of Bactria.  She was the daughter of the King of Bactria, Oxyartes, and Alexander had just conquered his kingdom.  Bactria is now northern Afghanistan - Alexander's wife was Afghan.

At this moment, US and NATO forces are preparing to secure Afghanistan's second largest city, Kandahar.  The city was founded by Alexander in 330 BC and is in fact named after him, from the original Iskandaria (Alexandria - Iskander being the Persian pronunciation of Alexander's name).

DEMOCRATS AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

Most Americans clearly want their government to secure the borders and enforce immigration laws. They understand what many elected officials still don't: rewarding lawbreakers with amnesty only encourages a new flood of illegal immigrants.

In September, New York Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced a plan to allow illegal immigrants to obtain New York drivers' licenses. The proposal has been sharply criticized across the nation. A recent poll found 77 percent of Americans oppose drivers' licenses for illegal immigrants.

The public outcry ultimately forced Mr. Spitzer to withdraw his proposal, but the damage was done. With the 2008 elections less than a year away, senior Democratic leaders and members of Congress are desperately trying to strike the right tone on immigration. But efforts by Democrats to toughen talking points against illegal immigration are disingenuous at best.

In fact, Democrats and various interest groups have never been serious about reducing illegal immigration. In the last two years, an overwhelming majority of House Democrats voted against almost every piece of legislation aimed at reducing illegal immigration. For example:

BYE-BYE BOLIVIA?

This map of Bolivia may about to become obsolete:

bolivia.jpg

For some time now, a lot of Bolivians have been conducting a “Gas War,” blocking roads, demonstrating in cities like El Alto and Cochabamba to prevent the export of Bolivian natural gas by foreign companies. The fellow coordinating the protests is Evo Morales, a Marxist protg of Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, the leader of the MAS (Movement Towards Socialism) Party, and also the leader of coca leaf growers (the stuff that’s made into cocaine). The protests brought down the presidency of Gonzalo Sanchez do Lozada in October 2003 and continue to escalate: 820 in the last 17 months. The current government of Sanchez’s successor Carlos Mesa in teetering.

There’s just one problem for Morales and Chavez. The Bolivians who are protesting are not the Bolivians who live where the gas is. Bolivia is about to split in two.

DO HUMAN BEINGS HAVE EXPIRATION DATES?

After celebrating her 60th year on the throne in style this past week, Britain's Queen Elizabeth II can now look forward to breaking some more records.

She is already, at 86, Britain's oldest monarch (were she to die now, her son would immediately be the 12th oldest). On Sept. 10, 2015, she would pass Queen Victoria to become the longest-reigning monarch in British history. To beat Louis XIV (who succeeded to the throne at the age of 4) for the longest reign in European history, she would have to live to 98.

Elizabeth II is still going strong, but the maximum human lifespan isn't rising at anything like the rate of average life expectancy, which is rushing upward globally at the rate of about three months a year, mainly because of progress against premature mortality.

Indeed, we may already have hit some kind of limit for maximum lifespan-perhaps because natural selection, with its strict focus on reproductive success, has no particular need to preserve genes that would keep us going to 150.

WEINER IS A SMALL-TIME LIAR COMPARED TO THE OBAMA FOLKS

From the founding of the American republic, members of the political class have been caught lying about sex and, no doubt, sex scandals will continue, men (and women) being who they are.

There often are demands that those involved resign - and sometimes they do because they are shamed or pushed. Most often, the real damage caused by lies about sex extend no further than to those directly involved, to their families and, at times, to their co-workers and colleagues.

Far more damaging are the financial, policy and legislative whoppers told by members of the administration and Congress that adversely affect almost every American.

Corporate executives and directors are often forced to resign after making untrue statements about the businesses they oversee and are sometimes subject to both civil and criminal penalties, including jail. Many public officials who engage in far more damaging untruths are rarely forced to resign, let alone face civil and criminal penalties. Is it not time the double standard ended?

DEMOCRAT WEEDS IN THE CONSTITUTIONAL GARDEN

Here is the great conundrum of our day:  Why can't conservatives and Republicans be as ruthlessly and passionately focused on reducing government power as liberals and Democrats are on expanding it?

Until a solution to this is found, government guns and bureaucrats will relentlessly continue to control ever more of our lives, as they have for generations.  The most that can be achieved, such as under President Reagan, is to marginally slow down the continuing advance of fascism.

Here's a metaphor.  Suppose you had a beautiful garden and you let the weeds grow in it.  The only gardening you did was half-hearted because you had to work to make a living and couldn't take the time - or you were just too lazy - to trim and prune and de-weed adequately.

How would your garden look after a few years?  After a hundred years?  Would the folks who originally created the garden recognize it?  No - of course not, it would be an overgrown morass of weeds and brambles that had choked the garden out of existence.

Democrats are the weeds in America's garden of government.  Republicans are supposed to be the gardeners - and they've done such a lousy job they've let the weeds take over.  The problem is not so much that too many of them are RINOs or insufficiently principled.  It's that they don't understand the job Republicans are supposed to do.

REAGAN 21: Applying RR’s Principles to the 21st Century

It's been nearly 20 years since Ronald Reagan left the presidency. Yet, even people who don't remember his presidency (or his governorship in California) as I do, have positive views of his legacy.

Yes, he lowered taxes and ended the Cold War. But we remember him for even more than that. He stood unwavering by his principles, his personal integrity was never in question and he had that immutable optimism.

Today, Congress has a record-low approval rating of 11 percent. Republicans lost the majority in part because they spent too much, had ethical lapses and did not deliver on illegal immigration and other issues. The people put Democrats in charge, but they have disappointed even more than Republicans.

Americans are crying out for leadership with principle, integrity and courage. They want to believe again in an optimistic vision for America's future.

Reagan 21 is the project of a group of about 20 senators and representatives to provide that fresh, bold leadership.
