THE TTP PORTUGAL SUMMER RETREAT

summer-pt-retreatWhat are you doing this Fourth of July?  You may be spending it with friends and family, of course.

But if not, consider that it’s on a Wednesday this year, the middle of the week, so you may be able to get the week off.  If so, how about celebrating the Fourth with your fellow TTPers in the most enchanting – and safest – country in Europe?

You first learned about Portugal’s history and why Rebel and I call it California in Europe back in January 2014.  We held three TTP Retreats there in that year and it’s time we had one again.

In the years since, Portugal has been discovered as the coolest “must-see” destination in all Europe.  That’s because Portugal has got everything.  Fabulous climate, beaches, food, wine, history, charm up the yingyang, and the sweetest, nicest people in Europe.

It’s also because of what it isn’t – overrun by Moslem “refugees.”  While the rest of Western Europe is becoming Eurabia, in Portugal you’ll never see Moslem men blocking streets praying en masse or a woman in a burqa.  The Portuguese are Christian Europeans.  They kicked Moslem invaders out of their country 764 years ago (in 1249) and are happy to keep it that way.

This is an intimate get-together of no more than a dozen TTPers to discuss the world in depth with me.  And I might as well give you a warning up front.

In addition to learning more about the world than you thought possible in under a week, you run the risk of falling head over heels in love with Portugal.  I describe it as utterly captivating, and once you are there you’ll easily understand why.

We start in Lisbon, Portugal’s capital.  It’s quick and easy to get to, daily non-stops from the East Coast, leave in the evening, early the next morning you’re there.

Lisbon is the oldest city in Western Europe, founded by the Phoenicians as Allis Ubbo  (Safe Harbor) over three thousand years ago (1200 BC).  Today, Lisbon is one of Europe’s most charming, timeless, and elegant cities. It is one of the cleanest and safest cities in the world.

Overlooking Lisbon is St. George’s Castle. The hill was used by indigenous Celtic tribes, then by Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, Moors (Moslems), and finally the Portuguese themselves.

Lisbon is a place of cable cars, outdoor cafés, unique museums, great night life, and terrific restaurants.  If you’re a food and wine lover, this is your place!

After Lisbon, we explore at the extraordinary World Heritage Site of Sintra.  Here you find one of Europe’s most astonishingly spectacular castles, the magical fairy-tale Pena Palace perched on a peak overlooking an incredible vista.

Just below it is the Castle of the Moors first built in the 8th century by Moslem invaders and captured by Christian knights in 1147.  We’ll explore its ramparts (notice Pena Palace in the background) –

In historic Sintra itself, we find the Quinta da Regaleira with beautiful expansive gardens and their famous spiral Initiation Well, always listed as “one of the world’s most mysterious places” –

Next we head for the coast – the Portuguese Riviera with its world famous luxury resorts of Cascais and Estoril.  This is Portugal at its most captivating, with picture post card scenes everywhere:

Rebel will take the ladies to stores they’ll love, while I’ll take the guys to O’Luian’s Irish Pub for a pint of Guinness or Kilkenny.  Then we’ll meet up for a walk past all the pocket beaches along the Cascais-Estoril Promenade:

We end with a venture up Europe’s most beautiful hidden coastline, the Costa da Prata, Portugal’s Silver Coast.

On the way we visit the Medieval Walled City of Obidos. One of Europe’s most romantic villages, it is known as the “Wedding Present Town” because it was a gift King Dinis gave to Queen Isabel on their wedding day in 1282.

The Silver Coast has everything – endless beaches, fabulous golf, famous surf spots (biggest waves ever surfed at Nazaré), charming hamlets unchanged from the past, great food and wine –and no crowds.  Here there is beauty, peace and quiet – a marvelous place for a retirement or get-away-from-it-all home near the ocean at reasonable prices.

We end our TTP Summer Retreat at the Arribas right on the sea at Praia Grande – every room has a spectacular ocean view…

Just like in California, the sun sets in the ocean – so you can watch the sunset from your balcony:

Whether you’re into natural scenic beauty, history, culture and arts, food and wine, or you enjoy people, Portugal is marvelous pleasure. It can also be a practical choice to live and work abroad or retire and live well.

As you can see, this is a special and unique experience.  If you want to be one of the dozen TTPers to enjoy it, get the full details and prices here:  TTP Portugal Fourth of July Summer Retreat.  Once you enter your name and confirm, you can download it.

The dates are Saturday June 30 to Saturday July 7.  The cost includes just about everything – quality hotels in great locations, wonderful meals, admissions, transportation, entertainment, airport transfers, and picking my brain as much as you want – all inclusive.
