WITH LEBANON ENDING HEZBOLLAH, PEACE LOOKS POSSIBLE IN THE MIDDLE EAST

When we look back on the 1980s, a decade characterized by renewed Western strength and prosperity after the malaise of the 1970s, many of us think of three towering figures: Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, and Pope John Paul II.

These three people were committed to individual liberty, both political and spiritual, and they provided the economic, military, and moral impetus for that amazing decade, a decade that ended with the collapse of the once formidable—indeed, seemingly unbeatable—Soviet Union.

When I look at the world today, I’m beginning to wonder whether, in place of the Trio of Titans in the 1980s, the third decade of the 21st century will bring us the Dynamic Duo of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu.

Working in tandem in the last few months, these months have brought about the military downfall of Iran and its proxy armies (Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis), even as we’re witnessing the resurgence of the Abraham Accords, which will bring Israel into the fold of its Arab-Muslim Middle Eastern neighbors.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY – CLIMBING MOUNT OLYMPUS

mount-olympusAugust, 1971. Here is where the Ancient Greeks believed their 12 Olympian Gods lived, on the summit of the highest peak of Olympus – Mytikas at 9,571ft/2,918m. There are 52 jagged prominences of Olympus, but if you want to commune with Zeus, Apollo, Aphrodite, Athena and the rest, this is where you go.

It takes just two days: morning drive from Athens (4 hrs) to Litochoro, then the roadhead at Priona (2,500ft). Afternoon hike of some 3 hours through pretty pine forests to the comfortable Spilios Agapitos refuge (6,700ft) for dinner and a bunk bed overnight. You’re up at dawn for a strenuous but not technical climb up to Skala peak at 9,400ft. In my photo, you’re looking at Mytikas from Skala. It’s a Class B rock scramble – no ropes or gear, but this shouldn’t be your first mountain rodeo. Be careful!

I was by myself at the Mytikas summit and no selfies in those days, so I said my greetings to the gods, and I was back down at the refuge by lunchtime. You’ll be back at the Plaka below the Acropolis in Athens for ouzo and dinner. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #45 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

THE HYPOGEUM OF MALTA

hypogeumThe extraordinary rock-cut necropolis known as the Hypogeum (hi-po-gee-um) is the only prehistoric underground temple in the world. For over a thousand years (3500-2500 BC), the temple and burial complex (eventually housing 7,000 skeletons) was carved out and down – dozens of chambers, with rock-cut replicas of above-ground temples including simulated corbelled roofs. (A corbelled roof uses stone slabs that progressively overlap each other until the room is roofed over.)

The Megalthic Maltese learned to cut from the limestone bedrock with tools of stone and antler horn for they had no metal. These folks figured out all by themselves how to build extraordinary temples to their gods and goddesses close to six thousand years ago. Nobody taught them. They were the first.

Only one reason Malta is one of our planet’s most fascinating places. Come with Rebel and me in early November to make this history a part of your life, and experience The Magic of Malta. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #109 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

THE CHRISTIAN KNIGHTS OF MALTA

christian-knights-of-maltaThey look real, don’t they?  Ready to defend their Christian land with their lives.  We are in the Palace Armory Museum of Malta, where you realize there is no nation on earth more proud of their Christian heritage.  It was on Malta in 1565 that a few thousand Christian Knights led by 70 year-old Jean de Vallette defeated in utter humiliation a massive horde of Moslem Ottomans led by Suleiman the Magnificent.

In seeking to use Malta as his launchpad to conquer all of Christian Europe, Suleiman was bitter in defeat: “This cursed island is like a barrier interposed between us and our possessions,” believing that Allah ordained all Christian lands need be taken for Islam by the sword.

Vallette knew what he and his Knights faced: “It is the great battle of the Cross and the Koran which is now to be fought. A formidable army of infidels is at the point of invading our island.”

The incredibly heroic saga of the Knights’ victory is told in The Siege of Malta, on TTP since 2009.  What’s critical to understand now is that, after 5½ centuries, the Maltese people are just as proud of their history and Christian heritage as ever.

Come with me in early November to meet them, to make this history a part of your life, and experience The Magic of Malta.    (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #264 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

GGANTIJA

ggantija

The small European island country of Malta in the Mediterranean south of Sicily and close to the north coast of Africa is where civilization emerged from the Stone Age.

The story begins over 7,000 years ago, when a handful of Stone Age tribes in Sicily rafted 55 miles south to land on the twin islands of Gozo and Malta.  They lived in caves, then huts, fished, hunted, farmed with primitive tools for they had no metal – and over a period of more than a thousand years taught themselves how to construct massive buildings of stone.

This is the Temple of Ggantija (zhee-gan-tee-zha).  Built almost 6,000 years ago (around 3600 BC), it is the oldest free-standing structure in the world.  It is older than the pyramids in Egypt by a thousand years, older than Stonehenge by 15 centuries.  The enormous stones weighing several tons were cut from the limestone bedrock with tools of stone and antler horn for they had no metal, and moved using small round-cut rocks as ball bearings for they had no wheels.

These folks figured out all by themselves how to build this and other massive stone temples to their gods and goddesses so many millennia ago.  Nobody taught them.  They were the first. Come with Rebel and me to experience this yourself on our Magic of Malta this coming early November. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #166 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

GAVIN NEWSOM DECLARES CALIFORNIA A SANCTUARY STATE FOR CHILD SLAVERY

SACRAMENTO, CA — In the latest front on his war against the Trump administration's immigration policies, Governor Gavin Newsom officially declared California a sanctuary state for child slavery.

The announcement followed on the heels of Newsom expressing outrage over ICE launching operations to rescue unaccompanied minor immigrants from working in California's marijuana fields, with the governor seeking to provide child slavers with a safe place to do their business.

"It's our duty to provide a place for child slaves to work without fear," Newsom told reporters. "Here in California, we still look to build a bright future, where child slavery can flourish without the dark cloud of interference from the federal government. I will continue to stand up boldly on behalf of child traffickers everywhere. As long as I'm governor, California is the place for child slavery."

One child trafficker who spoke under the condition of remaining anonymous was relieved by Newsom's announcement. "It's great to hear," he said. "It's getting more and more difficult to find places where we can set up shop and really traffic some kidnapped children. Thanks to Gavin Newsom, we can keep fighting to sell these kids for good prices and get rich off of doing horrible things. Thank you, Governor Newsom."

The Association of Child Slave Traffickers also gave Newsom's declaration its enthusiastic approval.

At publishing time, Newsom announced that any ICE agent who agreed to stop their immigration enforcement operations would receive a free child slave.

FREEDOM’S BIRTHDAY 2025

declaration-of-independenceJuly 4th is Freedom’s Birthday. My suggestion is, amidst the fireworks and barbeques and flag-waving fun – all of which are great – that you take the time to feel good about America.

Take the time to read the Declaration of Independence aloud with your family.

We Americans are privileged to live in one of history’s supreme moments. We Americans are participants in one of history’s greatest civilizations in its prime.

Someday in some future epoch, history will have moved on, and there will be distant centuries between that time and the American Era. People will then look upon America as we do upon ancient Egypt or Greece, and will do so with the same wonder and awe.

I suggest you look upon America with that wonder and awe now.

TRUMP’S BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL AND ITS PERMANENT TAX CUT WILL CHANGE THE WORLD

[I’ve known Grover for over 40 years. In all those years, the dream of his organization, Americans for Tax Reform, is what this bill makes possible.  We’ll be talking about this more in tomorrow’s HFR. Read Grover now for a head start. – JW]

President Donald Trump’s permanent tax cut will change the world.

The "big, beautiful bill" is the capstone of years of work to create a pro-growth tax policy that will make the American economy so strong we will leave Europe in the dust and convince China they cannot compete with us militarily or economically.

The big bill provides lower tax rates for all. Permanent, immediate expensing of business investment. Tax simplification. America competing in the world economy with lower taxes, not lower wages.

And the largest spending cut of any budget resolution in history.

The importance of permanent 100% business expensing cannot be overstated. This is an achievement pursued by the taxpayer movement for the past five decades.

THE AFRICANIZATION OF AMERICA

THE AFRICANIZATION OF AMERICA[This Monday’s Archive was originally published on March 21, 2012.  Then we were suffering under the rule of an America-hating autocrat  from Kenya.  Today, New Yorkers may soon be under the rule of an America-hating autocrat from Uganda. It was written while in Ghana, West Africa, and recounts how a Marxist named Kwame “Africanized” Ghana’s economy into ruin.  Zohan Kwame Mamdani threatens to do exactly that to New York, as it is who  his Marxist father named him after to be his model,  The description below of Ghana’s Kwame fits New York’s Kwame to a T.]

TTP, March 21, 2012

Accra, Ghana. By independence in 1952, Ghana was the richest tropical country in the world, with huge foreign currency reserves from massive sales of cocoa, coffee, gold, timber, and bauxite.  The Brits had provided the new nation with an efficient civil service, an impartial judiciary, a fair electoral system with competent elected politicians, and a prosperous middle class.

Its rule Nkrumah was wildly popular, promising hope and change that would solve everyone’s grievances.  The world press fawned on him just as obsequiously, starting with a Time Magazine cover story in 1953.

Nkrumah’s true identity was plain for anyone to see – a charismatic charlatan, an intellectual lightweight, a self-proclaimed Marxist who hated capitalism, a self-worshipping narcissist of the highest order, and a black racist who hated whites and the West.  So radical left the Soviet Union awarded him the Lenin Peace Prize in 1962.

To the surprise of no one with unblinkered vision, but to the shocked surprise and denial of every fawning liberal on the planet, he proceeded to run Ghana straight into the ground. As he built a personality cult around him -- Ghana’s soldiers, e.g., marched to the cadence “Nkrumah can do no wrong, Nkrumah can do no wrong” – Ghana’s fabulous economy collapsed and sunk into a morass of corruption.

MICHELLE OBAMA CALLS GIVING BIRTH THE LEAST SIGNIFICANT THING A WOMAN CAN DO

Move over Hillary Clinton.

Another Democrat former first lady is taking her contempt for children way beyond her distaste for baking cookies.

It might explain why the Obama children never looked very happy, and why young Malia Obama no longer wants to use her mom and dad's last name in the career she is trying to build in film.

But more broadly, it highlights the moral disorder seen among Democrat opinionmakers. To downgrade motherhood, the one thing only women can do to perpetrate the human race, is an outrageous take on the vital role of women and the role they play most naturally.

It's like a war against human civilization, obvious enough in that thoughtless yet deeply felt opinion of Michelle Obama, a remark bound to be met by approval by Democrats who will clap like seals at its mention.

FOR ALL THE MARBLES

deuces-wild-marbles

[This edition of Deuces Wild is worthy of your careful reading and reflection. Remember that TTPer Deuce is an on -duty on-the-street cop who brings street-smart reality to the Left’s goals for our country. Where else can you get this except on TTP? –JW]

So much has been happening since we last Deuced that it was hard for me to decide just how to write about the events.

As we go to press, the situation in California makes it very clear that Trump was absolutely right to engage in plans to deport illegal aliens en masse.

The human rats are coming out of the woodwork quickly, and showing us what they really stand for—and that is the destruction of our rule of law.

Time will tell if the national ship can finally be righted without us going into what I will call “kinetic territory.”

That could be its own large discussion topic—but for the events dominating the Middle East.

Israel finally attacked Iran and their nuclear program; decimating great swaths of their nuclear facilities and leadership, as well as the Iranian Waffen SS—the Republican Guard.

The icing on the cake was the U.S. buying in and helping Israel burn Iran’s nuclear project to the ground with some B-2s and some special bombs that were built particularly for that scenario.

We can rest assured that if the twerking, giggling mental case Kamala had been elected, Israel would have been on its own and nuclear weapons might have indeed had to have been used before the radioactive dust settled.

RUSSIA IS JUST NOT VERY GOOD AT FIGHTING WARS

One of the 10,000 Russian tanks destroyed in Ukraine
One of the 10,000 Russian tanks destroyed in Ukraine

Last month (6/25), Russian casualties climbed through the one million mark after three and a half years of Putin’s “special military operation”, originally expected to last three days.

For an army of such size in manpower and equipment this seems a remarkable price to pay for less than a fifth of Ukrainian territory, fighting against an army which was minuscule in comparison on the day of the illegal invasion – 24th Feb 22.

What are the reasons for this ineptitude, and is this purely a problem of the modern Russian army – or a reflection of systemic failures across the centuries? A soldier (Hamish) and a historian (James) will try to answer these questions today.

When it comes down to it, the Russian military has always relied on mass and brutality. It has aspired historically to ambitious intellectual underpinnings for its military power but this has tended to falter on first contact with reality.

Which leads to Ukraine.

THE FREEDOM TO MAKE INFORMED HEALTH CHOICES

It’s hard to believe that the constitutional right to make your own informed decisions about nutrients was wrested from the FDA regulators only twenty-five years ago!

And our own Skye, Durk Pearson, made that happen with a lawsuit that had to go to appellate court before it was finally decided in 1999.

The safe harbor from "drug" status for dietary supplements bearing FDA-approved health claims did not always exist. Prior to 1984, the FDA took the position that a statement that consumption of a food could prevent a particular disease was "tantamount to a claim that the food was a drug . . . and therefore that its sale was prohibited until a new drug application had been approved."      Appeal No. 98-5043

Durk and Sandy were pioneers in anti-aging science—but they were also warriors for truth and free speech. In 1993 they wrote Freedom of Informed Choice: FDA vs. Nutritional Supplements, a powerful book that shook the foundations of how the FDA regulates supplements.

They exposed how the FDA was blocking truthful information about nutritional supplements from reaching the public and they argued that Americans have a constitutional right to hear the truth about nutrients—even if the FDA didn’t approve of the message.
