PROTECTING YOURSELF FROM MEXICAN SWINE FLU

The incompetence of President Zero and his DHS secretary Janet Napolitano has now reached lethal levels in their refusal to militarily close the US-Mexico border or even airplane flights from Mexico.

Yet now that the swine flu epidemic has spread from Mexico into the US, we cannot worry about Zero, much less expect him to protect us in any way.  Let's focus on what you can do right now at this moment.

The CDC has identified the virus as a H1N1 virus called swine influenza A. This virus has been known for over 40 years, infecting humans directly from birds such as ducks (avian flu) or pigs (swine flu).

Never before could it be transmitted from one human to another.  The virus has now evolved to where it can.  This new human-to-human transmission is what is making the H1N1 pandemic.

Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw suggest the following prophylactic measures to protect their friends at To The Point.  As Durk says, "I'm afraid that you are not going to like this, but I really do know my biology..."

THE AUDACITY OF NAÏVETÉ WITH IRAN

Senator Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. wants to talk to our Middle Eastern enemies, notably Iran. He can't imagine a happy resolution of the war without such talks. And he seems to think this desire is something new, maybe even revolutionary.

He apparently does not know that it is not at all new, and certainly not revolutionary. It is instead the fully tested "policy" of the United States for the past thirty years, ever since the seizure of power by the mullahs in 1979.

We have had high-level and low-level talks, public and private talks, talks conducted by diplomats, by spooks, and by a colorful array of intermediaries. All failed.  We tried everything. The Iranians were not interested. It reminds me of that great scene from Goldfinger, with Sean Connery as James Bond spread-eagled on a sheet of gold, and a laser beam slicing through it, headed for his private parts.

"Do you expect me talk, Goldfinger?" he asks.

"No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die."

That's Iran. The mullahs want us to die.  Mr. Obama won't allow himself to understand this.  Perhaps his book should have been entitled The Audacity of Naïveté.

A WARNING AND A THANK YOU

This is a quick warning and a long thank you.

First, I need to warn you about a very dangerous new computer virus, a "trojan horse" or "worm" traced to a group of malicious hackers in China.  It's called Mocmex and it can destroy your PC Windows computer.  Another good reason to get a Mac!  Read the link to see how you can protect yourself.

Second, we'll get back to transistors and electrons next week, but I am still coming down from the wonderful time I and my fellow TTPers had in Sarasota.  So pardon me if I wax philosophical and take the time to share our blessings.

This being a techie column, let me put it in techie terms.  If life were a technological device, what would be yours?

THE NEXT CARTOON FREAKOUT

A white South African political cartoonist, Jonathan Shapiro, famously controversial in his country, got really upset the other day when the editor, Tim Du Plessis, of a popular South African magazine, Rapport, fired one of his writers, Deon Maas, for writing a column calling for tolerance towards believers in satanism.

Shapiro draws his cartoons under the pen name Zapiro - and the one he drew in anger towards Du Plessis has ticked off a major fraction of the entire population of South Africa.  This just happened, with Zapiro's cartoon appearing in the November 21 edition of the Mail & Guardian newspaper day before yesterday.

It's unlikely, however, that there will be Christian riots in Joburg, or elsewhere in the world, protesting Zapiro's comparing the Holy Trinity to the Easter Bunny - or Hindu riots in Delhi over comparing Shiva to the Tooth Fairy - or Jewish riots in Jerusalem over comparing Yaweh (Jehovah) to Zeus.

That's because these folks are mostly grown-up adults who just wearily shake their heads at juvenile attempts to ridicule their religion.

But you can bet on folks who have never grown out of the Dark Ages to engage in yet another violent world-wide temper tantrum over comparing Allah to Casper the Friendly Ghost, and worse, actually depicting Allah in a scribbled drawing.

So sit back and get set to enjoy the next great Mooselimb Cartoon Freakout.  Here's Zapiro's cartoon:

ROLL YOUR OWN SEARCH ENGINE

With its billions of sites, the Web has become the natural place to turn for information about nearly any subject. Large search engines like Google and Yahoo have their little search bots running 24/7, gathering data on sites and reporting back to the database, which you tap into when you conduct your search.

Unfortunately, though, finding what you need isn't always so easy. The data you need are definitely out there - the problem is getting to the right site, ferreting out the useful Web pages from the 5 million others ones that might mention the term you searched for, but in a totally useless, completely irrelevant context.

There is an easy, fast, and free way around this dilemma - and that is to create your own personalized search engine.  Here's how.

Chapter Four: STRANGERS

And so Malinali trudged through the forest and swamps to Pontochan, where Forearms sold her to the King and she moved into the palace - living in a palace again, but now as a slave and not a princess.

Malinali became very appreciative of Ciuacuatl’s lessons, for with her skills at sewing, cooking, and medicine, she was assigned to the household staff and not put out into the maize or cacao fields for manual drudgery.

Five winters passed. She became fluent in Maya, and learned how to do her work well and quietly, so as to be noticed as little as possible. She listened attentively, however, and began hearing talk of mysterious strangers who lived in gigantic war canoes. No one knew where they came from. Their skin was light and they had hair on their faces. Some wore metal on their bodies. Their canoes had carried them across the salt water from the south. They stopped at the mouth of the Pontochan River and talked to a group of Mayas but no one could understand what they were saying. They continued across the water to the north and were never seen again.

CALL IT CLIMATE FASCISM

The latest Warmist campaign is that scientists and journalists who mislead the public about ‘global warming' should be banned from television.

So says the producer of a highly tendentious and misleading new eco-propaganda movie about global warming, apparently blissfully unaware of the irony of his position.

Robert Kenner is the producer of Merchants of Doubt, a documentary which seeks to claim that climate skepticism is nothing but a fossil-fuel-funded conspiracy coordinated by the same kind of cackling evil-doers who tried to persuade you that smoking doesn't cause cancer.

Like the Obama administration, the movie takes for granted the notion that catastrophic man-made climate change is real, that all the scientists promoting the theory are reliable, honest and principled, and that the only possible reason anyone might have for claiming otherwise is that they are "merchants of doubt" - i.e., corrupt disinformers who deliberately and cynically seek to hide the truth about global warming from the public because they have been paid to do so by sinister corporate interests.

Now Kenner has written a public letter to one of his fellow celebrity alarmists, scientist-turned-filmmaker Randy Olson, to help promote his crappy film raise awareness in the media of the very serious issue of Big Oil funded denialism.

The letter says:

HALF-FULL REPORT 12/19/14

Yesterday in the Kremlin, the Putin Huilo gave what Bloomberg described as an "Extremely Long Very Weird Press Conference."

It reminded me of the now-viral YouTube video of the Chinese two year-old missing a putt:

{youtube}5_UVgmPDMRY{/youtube}

As the London Economist describes Putin's Russia, it's The End of the Line.

What is happening to Russia - and elsewhere - affords an extremely teachable moment in what makes prosperity and indeed freedom itself possible.  Let's take that moment now....

All that aside, we nonetheless are facing Two More Years of Hell.  This week provided ample evidence of why....

And how Islam is rapidly becoming a religion of criminal insanity....

Yet there is some good news....

CONTAINING PUTIN

Russian President Vladimir Putin's clear goal is to re-establish as much of the Russian Empire (1721-1917) as he can. At its greatest extent, the Russian Empire included the territories of the old Soviet Union, most of Eastern Europe, Finland and Alaska (up to 1866).

Mr. Putin knows the next U.S. president is unlikely to be as indecisive and reluctant to act as President Obama. He also faces falling demand for Russian oil and gas and unexpected price declines, which may cause him to run through Russia's considerable financial reserves. Accordingly, the pressure is on Mr. Putin to act quickly.

The Russian economy is now little more than a petro-state, relying on oil and gas, which account for 68 percent of its total exports, and more than half of its government revenue. Much of Russia's manufacturing base evaporated after the end of the Soviet Union. The ruble has fallen more than 30 percent against the dollar since the beginning of this year. As a result, inflation is accelerating (more than 8 percent at the moment) as imports become more and more expensive.

Thus Mr. Putin is both dangerous and vulnerable.  He must be contained.  Let's see how.

THE UNFINISHED WAR

The war with Hamas is not over. What we are experiencing today is a temporary cease-fire.

The most basic reason the war is not over is because Hamas has no existence outside its war against the Jewish state. Hamas exists to obliterate Israel. The goal of each round of fighting is to soften Israel up for the next round.  Hamas will only stop fighting when it is defeated. And Israel did not defeat Hamas.

Not only did Israel not defeat Hamas, but incredibly, according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, senior IDF commanders are now lobbying the government to in effect surrender to Hamas..

The General Staff's behavior isn't the only reason that Hamas thinks aggression is the way to go. The US and Europe have gone out of their way, both during the fighting and today, to show Hamas that they are right to attack Israel.  Mr. Obama in particular.

GOLDBRICS

brics_2014.png

Yesterday (7/23), an article in the prestigious foreign policy journal The Diplomat began:

"Although the tragic incident of MH17 now attracts global attention, the real big news last week was the establishment of the BRICS development bank at the BRICS summit in Brazil."

Although the article displays the blatant bias of its author as a professional Chicom apologist (Dingding Chen is a professor of government at China's University of Macau), there are many in the West and the US who agree - particularly among those who root for the collapse of the dollar.

Despite Mr. Chen's hyperbole, the BRICS' New Development Bank is worth paying attention to as a possible competitor to 1) the IMF & World Bank, 2) the SWIFT international banking transaction network, and 3) the US dollar as the world's reserve currency.

The key word in the sentence above is "possible" - for when you examine each of the BRICS individually (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) you begin to see what's possible here is not very probable.  Competition for the SWIFT/IMF/US$ hegemonies is to be welcomed - but it is very unlikely it will be provided by this crowd.

Far more possible is the group will become known as the GOLDBRICS, given Webster's definition of "goldbrick" as: a worthless brick that appears to be of gold; something that appears to be valuable but is actually worthless.

Let's begin with their "R" - Russia.

WILL GEORGE ZIMMERMAN SAVE AMERICA?

What is going on in Egypt is simply astounding.  The pictures -such as those of this UPI story, are jaw-dropping.  Especially when you consider what millions upon millions of Egyptians are demonstrating against:  radical Islamism and Sharia law which they equate with fascist tyranny.

Who or what is behind these gigantic protests?  An amorphous movement called Tamarod, meaning "Rebel" or "Rebellion" in Arabic.  Its goal is the resignation of President Morsi and the removal of the Moslem Brotherhood from power, followed by new elections.

Now, here's what almost no one gets so far:  The Tamarod movement is Egypt's Tea Party.  Both are anti-fascist freedom movements.  Of course, the US Tea Parties have a far deeper and more solid foundation - the US Constitution and the demand for the federal government to limit itself to the Constitution's enumerated powers.

Nonetheless, what is happening in Egypt should inspire all Tea Partyers in America.  If tens of millions of Egyptians can demand the resignation of their corrupt fascist leader, why can't tens of millions of Americans do the same?

Well, then, why aren't they?  Americans have the greatest tradition of freedom in human history.  Egyptians don't have any at all.  So why aren't vast numbers of Americans in the streets demanding their freedom from the federalie fascisti, led by an irretrievably corrupt president who hates their country?  What does it take?

Maybe it takes George Zimmerman getting acquitted.

IDEALISM IS A POOR STRATEGY FOR LIBERTY

We want to live in freedom. We want this country that was founded on individual liberty to once again become a country that champions individual liberty. America was founded on an this ideal; an ideal that holds tremendous meaning for most everybody reading this column.

But while an ideal is great for offering direction, there are dangers to holding too tightly or dwelling too deeply upon the image of what you would like to see fulfilled.

Researchers have found that when you are aiming for a personal goal, the practice of visualizing the end product can actually have a negative effect on your ability to achieve it.  This finding runs counter to decades of self-help advice.

If you are holding in your mind an image of what a totally free society would look like; if you are measuring the political system in which you live, and comparing everything about it to that ideal, you will succeed in being eternally disappointed, dissatisfied, and even bitter.

The truth is...

THERE WERE NO ELECTIONS IN IRAN

There were no elections in Iran last Friday (3/14), whatever you may have heard. The "turnout" was shockingly low, even by past standards, as is demonstrated by the obvious panic in Tehran, where the mullahs kept the polls open an extra five hours.

This was not, as they said, to make sure the patriotic citizens of the capital could drop their ballots in the box, but because they had to bus the reluctant faithful and the subservient government employees to the election offices, so as to be able to claim a large, voluntary participation.

Even so, the official figure of 60 percent has no relationship to the actual event, in which perhaps 10 or 15 percent actually "voted."

The fraud was so obvious that even the European Union denounced the "elections" as neither free nor fair, despite their wish to pass off the Islamic Republic (as former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage and current McCain-campaign advisor once famously put it) as "a democracy."

EMAIL SECURITY

Your email or "mail pop accounts" are out there in the naked with no protection. As it passes many hops and bounds on its way to its intended destination, it can be intercepted and sniffed by numerous people on its way. It's your data, you can do what you want with it, but it might be a prudent thing to think about your security.

Further, just like there are wired network tools for snooping there are also wireless sniffing devices that can rob you blind.

So, fellow TTPers, if you have a wireless network, and if you want to protect your email, please do this:
