TTP AND HISTORY

At the Winter Rendezvous this weekend in Sarasota, one topic of discussion will be how to make improvements in To The Point, making it even better.  We're jumping the gun this week, and making one many of you have been requesting for a while.

That is to provide a side bar for categories of articles.  Over the next few weeks, we'll be adding categories with links to all the TTP articles on say, Islam, or Mexico, Russia, China, Democrat Fascism, Global Warming, Science, Health, etc.

The first one, however, is history.  In the TTP Article Category side bar will be a link to all the articles on the history of various countries and regions of the world.  It's the one many of you have wanted most of all.

Here's the list.  There will be more lists to come.

THE COMING PALACE COUP IN IRAN

It has become obvious that US action against Iran has dramatically sped up recently.

The US Navy has a second carrier group now in the Persian Gulf, overwhelmingly intimidating military power on Iran's doorstep.

At last, Bush has authorized US forces to hunt down and kill or capture Iranian operatives in Iraq.

The White House is targeting Iranian financial assets throughout the world.

So, finally we are going faster - but towards what?  Is the US goal a democratic revolution effecting genuine regime change, with all the mullah terror masters out of power?  No - not if the State Department has its wish.

Our Foggy Bottom Pinstripes are doing everything they can to prevent genuine regime change in Iran.  What they want instead is a palace coup, the seizure of the government by different forces within the government, not outside it.

Here's how it's going to come down.

THE THIRTIES ALL OVER AGAIN?

Certainly there is lots of bad news, most of which confirms what we already knew: The Western world hates Israel; the taboo on anti-Semitism is off; the Western world has been P.C.'ed to the edge of death; there is no stomach for fighting the war against Islamic fascism.

Sounds like the thirties to me.

The history of 20th-century America is largely about a country that never prepared for war, and was always compelled - by our enemies - to conduct enormous crusades.

The history of America in war, like that of most others, is largely about making enormous blunders at the beginning, and then sorting it out. Our great strength is not so much avoiding error, but the ability to recover quickly, change tactics and even
strategy, and get it done.

The scary thing about our current jam is that 9/11 was supposed to have been the wakeup call, but we are again asleep. For this I blame our leaders - both the administration and the Dems. Their greatest failure is their refusal to see the war plain, which means Iran and Syria.

FIREFOX

[I have a fondness for Firefox if only for the name: I was Clint Eastwood’s arctic location advisor for his 1982 movie “Firefox,” during which time we had a number of adventures together. I’m glad to see the Wizard finally discussing the Firefox web browser, as I have been bugging him about it for about a year now ---JW]

Many people with Windows use two mediocre programs - Internet Explorer and Outlook Express - for the most important aspects of their computing experience: browsing the Internet and managing email.

For email, Microsoft Office provides a better way. Microsoft Office includes Outlook, which is a robust email application. It includes tasks, scheduling and many other features of a Personal Information Manager.

But what about a better way than Internet Explorer?

You’ve probably heard of that better way by now. There have been widespread reports in the mainstream media about Firefox - a new and worthy challenger to Internet Explorer. Mozilla Firefox 1.0.1 is the dream Internet browser you've been looking for. Featuring a host of small technical improvements, including tabbed browsing, built-in and customizable search bars, and a built-in RSS reader, Firefox browser is the one that should finally put a dent in Internet Explorer's unrivalled market dominance.

WHAT IS OR IS NOT ISLAMIC FOR OBAMA?

In his speech on September 11 announcing that the US would commence limited operations against Islamic State, US President Barack Hussein Obama insisted, "ISIL, [i.e. ISIS or Islamic State] is not Islamic. No religion condones the killing of innocents, and the vast majority of ISIL's victims have been Moslem."

To be sure, it is hard to see how any human faith can countenance IS's actions. For the past several months, on a daily basis, new videos appear of IS fighters proudly, openly and wantonly committing crimes against humanity. This week for instance, a video emerged of an IS slave market in Raqqah, Syria, where women and girls are sold as sex slaves to IS fighters.

Despite the glaring contradiction between divinity and monstrosity, the fact is that IS justifies every single one of its atrocities with verses from the Koran.

IS referred to its sex slave market in Raqqah for instance as the "Booty Market... for what your right hands possess."
The phrase "what your right hands possess" is a Koranic verse (4:3) that permits the sexual enslavement of women and girls by Moslem men.

By contrast to what he says about IS, throughout his tenure in office, Obama has gone out of his way to mainstream Moslem extremists. This has taken the form of granting senior appointments to people aligned with the Moslem Brotherhood. Further, Obama has befriended radical Islamic leaders who openly support terrorism, including Turkish dictator Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the emir of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

How are we to explain this seeming anomaly?

HALF-FULL REPORT 06/27/14

Before we descend into overwhelm regarding all that's been going on this week, let's first talk about the price of oil.

After Stone Age Moslem marauders seized Mosul on June 11 and seemed poised to march on Baghdad, oil traders on both sides of the Pond panicked, sending Brent crude in Europe to a year-high of $116 and WTI in the US to $108.  Energy pundits breathlessly predicted soaring prices to $120 and far beyond.

Yet since the panic spike, both prices have been dropping.  Today (6/27), Brent is at $113, WTI a little above $105.  How come?  One primary reason is the Kurds...

...America's leader doesn't have the cojones to stand up to Putin's bullying, but the leaders of Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia sure do.  Today (6/27) in Brussels, they -- Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, and Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca - signed formal political and economic accords with the European Union.

Putin stamped his foot and made all kinds of threats should they do so, and they shrugged and signed anyway...

...

In addition to Jack Kelly standing in for me last week with another of his great HFRs, he also helped me keep abreast of what's been going on this week while I've been in Namibia.  Here are some excerpts from what he tells me:

HOW CAN WE GET POLITICIANS TO KEEP THEIR PROMISES?

Have you noticed that many political candidates, when running for office, claim they are going to make government less corrupt, irrational, incompetent and burdensome? Yet after they are elected, it only gets more so.

Politicians like to speak in broad, general terms rather than lay out specific things that they can and will do. If voters demand more specifics, though, they will get them.

The following are four specific measures that most members of Congress should be able to support because, once explained, the benefits are obvious.

*Let's start by asking:  Do you think you should be able rely on Internal Revenue Service guidance when preparing your taxes? This would seem to be a no-brainer - an obvious "yes."  However...

WHAT SECRET SERVICE AGENTS SAY ABOUT PRESIDENTS AND FIRST LADIES

I'm Ron Kessler, author of In the President's Secret Service: Behind the Scenes with Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect.

This week, we celebrated something called "Presidents Day."  I thought you might enjoy the most revealing comments the many Secret Service agents I interviewed made regarding the Presidents and First Ladies they protected.  They are all quotes from my book.

We start with John and Jacqueline Kennedy and end with Barack and Michelle Obama.  Here is what Secret Service agents actually think of them.

FREEDOM IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN SECURITY

Ljubljana, Slovenia.  Very few Americans have ever heard of Slovenia, even fewer of its capital cursed with a name no one can spell or remember (loo-bul-yan-ah).  Which is a shame, for this is arguably the most charming, attractive, cheerful, and certainly the cleanest and safest, capital city in Europe.

Slovenia is an ancient land - the world's oldest wheel was found here - and a brand new country.  The Slovenes gained their independence via the quickest victory of freedom over evil in modern times.   There are lessons the heroic people of Slovenia can teach us.

And without doubt, the single most important lesson Americans need to learn right now is that freedom is more important than security.

All of us could provide examples of how our freedom has been diminishing steadily for a long time.  Recently, however, it's been rapidly getting worse, with everyone in power, from local SWAT police to federal bureaucrats getting meaner and nastier.  Today, we're at the tipping point.

That tipping point is the choice between Freedom and the Surveillance State.  One of them has to be destroyed.  We can't have both.  (Update:  Skye posted a response on the Forum that is vital for all TTPers to see -- it is appended below.)

IF HITLER WAS GOD

The scene:  It is November, 1943. We're in Camp Shelby, just outside of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where 5,300 German prisoners of war are interned.

The Geneva Conventions are being strictly adhered to, with food (prepared by German cooks), clothing, and medical care equal to their captors. The German POWs have formed soccer and volleyball teams, with descriptions and results of the tournaments between them reported in the camp newspaper, The Mississippi Post.

A Nazi church has been erected in the camp, where Nazi worshippers attend services held by Nazi chaplains. In their sermons, the chaplains instruct that:

"Nazism is the true religion, the Aryan Soul the only true God, our understanding of Whom has been brought to us by His Holiness, Adolph Hitler. Our Führer, Adolph Hitler is the true Holy Ghost. He is the human form of the Aryan Soul instantiated here on earth. We believe on this earth solely in Adolph Hitler and his sacred teachings."

The Nazi Bible, Mein Kampf, is treated with careful reverence by the American camp guards. "The Holy Mein Kampf must never be placed in offensive areas such as the floor, near the toilet or sink, near the feet, or dirty/wet areas," state the detailed rules issued by the Pentagon. "Only Nazi chaplains may handle the Holy Nazi Book, or by guards only after putting on clean white gloves in full view of the POWs."

"The Holy Mein Kampf," states the Pentagon's directive, "should be treated like a ‘fragile piece of delicate art.'"

THE RON PAUL MOVIE CONTEST

I had my say about Ron Paul in No Paulista.  Yet the good gynecologist from Lake Jackson, Texas, has a devoted following among TTPers, and it is in their honor that To The Point is holding a contest.

And that is for the greatest Libertarian Motion Picture.

What movie ever made, in your opinion, best celebrates individual freedom, private property, the loathing and ridicule of government tyranny, the glory of the individual human being, and which has the most fun doing so?

There are a lot of choices.  We think of Hollywood as an anti-American cesspool of liberal lunacy.  But once you begin to look around, there's a wealth of pro-freedom entertainment.

OBAMATRUTH, HILLARYTRUTH

The fun of watching The Obamarama being dismantled by the Clintonista attack machine continues.

It may, or may not, surprise you to learn that certain members of the PIAPS's "Oppo" team (opposition research) read To The Point.  When they saw The Audacity of Apostasy earlier this month, they promptly zeroed in on the meanest and stupidest way to attack Obama's Moslem upbringing.

How his campaign is about to respond will totally blow you away.  You better be sitting down.

But rather than let her campaign be blown away by him, she has already come out with an even more vicious assault.  Here are the entertaining details....

OBVIOUS TO A BLIND MAN

I suppose if you live long enough you get to see everything at least twice, and in recent days I've seen replays of two old blunders that I'd hoped I wouldn't have to endure again. The first is the Friend Who Has Gone Too Far, and the second is the Enemy Who Is Really Our Friend.

The first time I saw the Friend Who Has Gone Too Far was in December 1981, a very long quarter-century ago.

Reagan was finishing his first year in office, and the first signs of the fall of the Soviet Empire were bubbling to the surface in Poland, where the Solidarity trade union was challenging the Polish Communist regime. Pope John Paul II was using the word "solidarity" in some very provocative ways, and you could feel the earth shifting beneath the feet of the Soviets.

It was pretty clear, even then, that if the Kremlin did not find an effective way of breaking Solidarity, the entire structure of the Soviet empire might well crack wide open. And so, late in December, as I recall, military rule was declared in Poland, Soviet military forces were moved to the borders, and Solidarity leaders were rounded up and arrested.

And a liberal Republican Senator got on national television to excuse the Soviets.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MALWARE COUNTERMEASURES: TWO VIEWS

I received the following email from a fellow ToThePointer.

Dennis,

Great crusade against spyware, but I fear that your Spysweeper (and apparently Spybot and Ad-Aware, quite popular in the tech press) are hardly adequate in the battle against spyware, which the 'good guys' seem to actually be *losing*.

Here's an article summary on an exhaustive paper that remains to be fully analyzed: windowssecrets

They're using Eric Howes’s research: spywarewarrior

Regards,
Joshua Reed

Naturally I went to these sites right away.

THE GREAT DOLLAR BULL RUN HAS STARTED

The US dollar has surged to a four-year high against a basket of currencies and has punched through key technical resistance, marking a crucial turning point for the global financial system.

The index - a mix of six major currencies - hit 87.4 on Monday (11/03), rising above the key level of 87. This reflects the plunge in the Japanese yen since the Bank of Japan launched a fresh round of quantitative easing last week.

Data from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange show that speculative dollar bets on the derivatives markets have reached a record high, with the most extended positions against the euro, the yen, the Australian dollar, Mexican peso, the Canadian dollar, the Swiss franc, sterling, and the New Zealand dollar, in that order. The Swedish and Norwegian currencies are also coming under heavy pressure.

David Bloom, currency chief at HSBC, said a "seismic change" is under way and may lead to a 20% surge in the dollar over a 12-month span. The mega-rally of 1980 to 1985 as the Volcker Fed tightened the screws saw a 90% rise before the leading powers intervened at the Plaza Accord to cap the rise.

"We are only at the early stages of a dollar bull run. The current rally is unlike any we have seen before. The greatest danger for markets and forecasters is that they fail to adjust their behavior to fully reflect a very different world," he said.
