HOW TO AVOID UNNECESSARY CRISES

I’m used to hearing from people in crisis. As a psychotherapist and life coach, it’s part of my job. It may be a crisis in a marriage, a crisis at work, a financial crisis… There are many places for crises to wreak havoc in our lives.

Some crises are unavoidable. We control only so much of what happens in our lives, and sometimes life throws hardship, tragedy, or deeply chaotic circumstances our way.

I don’t make light of or gloss over the realities of life; but I do make it my business to help people to avoid unnecessary troubles, and there is one thing that we can do to prevent some of the more predictable crises of life:

Make and hold your positive commitments all the way, without reservation.

It’s no mystery that making solid commitments is central to a happy, successful life. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said, “At the moment of commitment, the universe conspires to assist you.” Pat Riley said, “There are only two options regarding commitment. You’re either in or you’re out. There’s no such thing as life in-between.” And then there are the famous words of Yoda to Luke Skywalker in the movie, The Empire Strikes Back — “Do, or do not. There is no try.”

There are so many great quotes and sayings about commitment that it’s easy for the profound truth to get lost in the platitudes. Today we’re going to ground this abstract concept into a tangible strategy for real-life results.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: THE POTALA OF THE AEGEAN

Mount Athos, Greece.  The Monastic Community of Mount Athos has been independent from the rest of the world for over a thousand years.  In all that time, no woman has been allowed to enter.  20 Eastern Orthodox Christian monasteries, home to  some 2,000 monks, are scattered along the Athos peninsula at the apex of the Aegean Sea.  The most dramatic of them is Simonopetra built in the 1200s on a huge granite rock hanging on a cliff 1,000 feet above the sea.

Little wonder it is nicknamed The Potala of the Aegean, after the famed Potala in Lhasa, Tibet.

You have to get special permission to enter Mount Athos and stay in one of the monasteries.  There are no tourists and no hotels.  My son Jackson and I were privileged to be here. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #306 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

WHERE THE SOVIET UNION STILL EXISTS

transnistriaWelcome to Transnistria, where Lenin still lives. The strangest country in Europe is a narrow sliver of landlocked land along the east side of the Dnieper River sandwiched between Moldova and Ukraine. When both declared independence as the Soviet Union broke apart in 1991, the people here decided they were still part of the USSR even though it had ceased to exist.

The half-million Transnistrians are still pretending their country is a Soviet Socialist Republic. Lenin statues abound, the hammer & sickle is on their flag, the state media broadcasts stories about “glorious Soviet history.” Meanwhile, Transnistria’s economy is doing well thanks to bountiful Kremlin subsidies and as a haven for the Russian mob. In the capital of Tiraspol I saw Beemers, Bentleys, and even a Corvette Sting Ray cruising the streets. Restaurants and bars are packed. Kids are well-dressed. That’s a gaggle of them you see above happily playing on a Russian tank in a park.

Maybe it’s all kind of a funny game to everyone here. As an American I was welcomed with smiles. You will be too if you visit – it’s a truly unique experience! (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #69 photo ©Jack Wheeler)

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL

mcway-waterfallIn these trying times, it’s important to appreciate the beauty of America – both the physical beauty like here at the McWay Waterfall in California’s Big Sur, and the moral beauty of America’s founding principles expressed in the Declaration of Independence.

Driving through all 50 US states as I have done with my sons gives you an awareness of the astounding beauty you discover, together with the cheerful friendliness you’re met with, in every state. They overwhelm whatever ugliness and unfriendliness you may chance upon.

Studying American history in an unjaundiced way gives you an awareness of how a moral foundation of every individual American’s inalienable right to their own personal life and liberty and the pursuit of their own personal happiness has enabled the creation of the most successful nation ever to exist – a success of widespread freedom and prosperity that overwhelms the multitude of imperfections afflicting our country.

Earth is not Heaven, humans are no angels, America is far from perfect – and we must never let the perfect be the enemy of the good. It is only with love and respect can we help America strive towards what Aristotle called the Kalon, the morally beautiful. (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #8, photo ©Jack Wheeler)

THE NDIKI DRUM

ndiki-drumFamboun, Cameroon. This is a Ndiki Drum. It is used by the Sultan of Bamoun to call his subjects to their end-of the-year Nguon festival over which he presides. It can be heard for miles.

The carved wooden forearms and hands propped up at the drum’s end are not the original drumsticks. They are symbolic for what the real drumsticks used to be. Until the British and French put an end to the custom in the 1920s, the Ndiki drumsticks were human arms, amputated at the elbow off captured slaves. Four drummers were needed to properly pound the drum, each requiring two drumsticks: eight amputated human arms in total.

The horror of slavery in Africa was ended by Western colonialists. In its place they introduced roads, railroads, electricity, an impartial rule of law instead of law favoring one tribe over another, and other benefits of civilization. They did a lot of stupid damage to African cultures, true.

But that is vastly outweighed by getting rid of slavery – exemplified by how this drum was pounded until less than 100 years ago. If you have a child or grandchild in school with woke teachers, you might have them bring this picture to class, and explain how the benefits of Western Civilization so greatly outweighs its liabilities. THE MOTHER LEATHERBACK

leatheback-turtle-jwThe leatherneck sea turtle is the world’s largest turtle, weighing up to 1500 pounds.  This female was about half that. They have an enormous range, all the way from the North Sea to South Africa in the Atlantic, spending their lives at sea eating jellyfish – except when a female comes ashore to her hatching beach and bury her clutch of eggs in the sand above high tide.

Dropping several dozen glistening white golfball-size eggs into a depression scooped out with her flippers, she covers them up with sand, and heads back to sea, never to see them again.  More than two months later, the born hatchlings dig out of the sand and wiggle their way into the sea, where the lucky ones survive.

I was able to watch this mommy’s entire egg-birthing process at dawn on a remote beach in the West African country of Gabon.  It was such a privilege to witness an act of elemental nature by such an extraordinary creature.  (Glimpses of Our Breathtaking World #127 Photo ©Jack Wheeler)

9 PEACEFUL SIGNS

There are a lot of religions out there, but only one can be the religion of peace. How can you be sure you're on the right path?

Here are 9 signs you belong to the true religion of peace:

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

  1. You always proclaim "God is great" before stabbing someone: No one else is that committed to peace.
  2. Everyone, regardless of creed, is invited to your 9/11 Celebration Party: Peaceful AND inclusive.
  3. You always give people a chance to convert before killing them: Incredibly thoughtful.
  4. The guy who started your religion only executed 700 people or so: Hard to get more nonviolent than that.
  5. You run to your underground bunker every time you hear thunder: Force of habit.
  6. Many of your favorite phrases begin with "Death to ____": It's an exciting way to start a sentence.
  7. You have a hard time not steering your vehicle into a crowd of pedestrians: So tempting.
  8. You never miss an episode of The Tucker Carlson Show: That guy really speaks your language.
  9. The people who say you aren't the religion of peace have been murdered: All doubts erased.

Sounds like an amazing belief system. What other clues can you think of?

HALF-FULL REPORT 08/14/26

Ex-Southern Poverty Law Center CFO Charged In Brazen Scheme To Secretly Pay $1.2M To White Supremacist Groups

Even for the NY Post, yesterday’s (8/13) cover is off the chart clickbait.  Yet it epitomizes the irretrievability of how criminally corrupt the Democrat Party, the Democrat NGO network, and the Democrat propagandist media have become.

Another example from yesterday’s NYP on how NY Dems including Gov. Hochul are for sale: Owner Of  Vacant Adult Daycare Billed Medicaid $32M While Donating To Kathy Hochul, Other Dems.

While the Dem Party becomes evermore corrupt, at the same time it is becoming more Anti-Semitic Nazi and IslamoFascist at astonishing speed.  This is a political party going berserk and lashing out in all directions during its death throes.

There could not be more hideous proof of the Dems being a Death Cult than the childless lesbian governor of Massachusetts, Maura Healey, signing into law on Monday (8/10) legalizing abortions up to actual birth of the baby. The moral evil of legalizing full-on infanticide is unfathomable. Maura Healey and her applauding ghouls are beyond moral redemption.

However… in the midst of all this, we’ll discover an abundance of good and satisfying news this week. So sit back and enjoy, Here we go.

KEEPING YOUR SANITY XIX

[This Monday’s Archive is the 19th in the Keeping Your Sanity series I wrote during the Fauci Covid insanity. It was in TTP on May 24, 2021.  It remains really good advice for all of us today on how to keep our brains young.]

We’re listening to one of the greatest geniuses of modern times, Richard Feynman.  One of the secrets to his genius is that, all his life, he kept the curiosity we all have as a child.

That was when, for all of us, the world was as young as we were.  Remember?  Everything was new, and fascinating, we were endlessly curious, we wanted to know why and asked questions about all sorts of stuff.

Remember how time went by much slower when you were young – and how you’ve noticed that the older you get, the faster time goes by?

Let’s not do that.  Let’s have time slow down, and recapture our curiosity of youth – by having our brain grow physically younger.  We’ll do that in a small place in our brain that’s Greek for “seahorse.”

NOTHING SAYS ‘BIG TENT’ LIKE A GOOD COMMUNIST POGROM

Hasan Piker, a close ally of Abdul El-Sayed, is calling for "Marxist-Leninist" punishment for those who criticize Michigan’s Democrat Senatorial candidate.

As radicals and antisemites like Piker flood the Democrat Party, establishment figures are struggling to justify their alliance with extremist candidates.

Ironically, Democrats are now fulfilling the false narrative that they used against President Donald Trump after the Charlottesville protests.

They are maintaining that there are "many fine people" in the Democratic Socialists of America party, despite its leaders seeking to destroy our constitutional system, open our borders, defund the police, and embrace virtual anarchy.

Now, some of these fine people are calling for moderates to be purged as radicals take over the Democrat Party.

THE CUNNING GENIUS OF AOC’S ‘WOKE’ REBOOT

After meeting Zohran Mamdani, Graham Platner, Abdul El-Sayed, and Francesca Hong, AOC doesn’t seem so scary, does she?

Why, she’s almost quaint, traditional, and (slightly) old-fashioned by comparison.

Tread carefully, Republicans: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is still America’s most dangerous Democrat and still the odds-on favorite to win her party’s 2028 presidential nomination.

And if she captures the nomination, there’s (roughly) a 50%-50% shot she’ll win the White House. Don’t underestimate her: She’s media-savvy, camera-friendly, photogenic, and her PR instincts are as sharp as Sardinian swords.

Consider how deftly she just rebooted the “woke” narrative.

US NAVY TWA 800 WITNESS BREAKS THE CONE OF SILENCE

[TTP:  This is a follow-up to an article published in July.]

William Teele, back in the day

With the release this week of TWA800: The Full Story—A Navy Whistleblower Comes Forward, filmmaker Brian Lerch has shown the power of AI to penetrate the shroud of secrecy surrounding a seemingly mysterious event, in this case the July 1996 demise of TWA 800.

At the heart of Lerch’s documentary is the testimony of ten-year Navy vet, William Teele. Teele has been trying to tell his story for years.

I first spoke with him in 2014 and included his account of events in my 2016 book TWA 800: The Crash, The Cover-up, The Conspiracy.

A few paragraphs in print does not do Teele’s account justice. With the help of AI, Lerch was able to dramatize Teele’s 15-minute narration by recreating the environment in which Teele operated. In the first 45 minutes of The Full Story Lerch walks the viewer through the details of the investigation, including its many failings.

One incontestable failing is that no single public proceeding has ever explored the case as a whole—the physical evidence, the witnesses, the CIA animation, the dissenting opinions.

By segmenting the public hearings, many of the government’s arguments have gone unchallenged. That said, so balanced and apolitical is Lerch’s retelling that a mainstream reviewer would be hard pressed to criticize it.

UKRAINE STRIKES RUSSIAN GRAIN TERMINAL

It may not sound like much but Russia's grain terminal in Novorossiysk is one of the best defended areas in Russia. Partly that's because the city is also home to Russia's Black Sea fleet and partly because Russia is the world's top exporter of grain and this is a major port where those exports happen.

A "massive" Ukrainian drone and missile strike on Russia's port of Novorossiysk has damaged two major grain export terminals and hit the last big Russian naval base on the Black Sea, reports say...

Most of Russia's Black Sea fleet is docked in Novorossiysk - one of the largest ports in Russia - after it was forced to vacate its former home base of Sevastopol, in the Russia-occupied Crimean peninsula, which was too exposed to Ukrainian attacks.

A major grain trading company confirmed to Russia's TASS news agency that its terminal had been hit, while another told Reuters and Russian outlet RBK the same.

The Russian agriculture ministry announced on Wednesday that it was working to redirect cargo flows to ports in the Baltic and Caspian Seas as well as land routes. It did not make any reference to Ukraine's attacks but said it was "taking into account current logistical constraint."

There's video of Russia's air defense struggling to take out all of the drones last night.

WHY A MULTIVITAMIN?

“We are human guinea pigs.” Durk and Sandy repeated this line over and over in their book, Life Extension. In the section where they show their preliminary formula (page 467), they repeat it again.

At that point, they had been experimenting on themselves for 12 years, with excellent results. Durk is careful to point out that they were having clinical lab tests performed regularly as well as consulting with doctors.

His point is that you are responsible for your own body and what you do with it. Anytime you put something new in your mouth – food, herb, drink, supplement, drug – even topical application on your skin – it is an experiment. Be aware and watchful for reactions and results. Durk says, “You are a damn fool if you don’t.”

His next point is similar – “Start slow and build up to larger doses.” I, personally, will be starting on LifeShield when my next order arrives. Though a “serving” is 3 capsules (4 times a day), I will be starting with only 1 cap 4xday and work my way up over time. I’m already taking Mind and Lift every day and getting amazing results. I’ll share those at a later time.

Durk gives great direction about dosing in Part V, Chapter 2 (pg. 433) and we will cover that in a later article. But today we’re starting with a short primer on nutrition in general.

EXCELLENCE TAKES MORE THAN TIME

We can learn a lot about gaining our own expertise from seeing how the great masters gained theirs.

Back in the 19th century, Sir Francis Galton in his book “Hereditary Genius,” argued that performance of skills for mature adults improves rapidly at first, but then at some point “Maximal performance becomes a rigidly determinate quantity.” What limits any significant improvement beyond that, in Galton’s view, was whatever nature endowed us with.

Other researchers – as far back as 1899 – added to this that it may take over 10 years to become an expert. The idea that this is a relatively orderly process, moving from novice to intermediate to expert, led to the belief that we can judge expertise through someone’s social reputation, education, accumulated knowledge, and length of experience.

There’s truth to this, of course, but it’s missing something important.

Because it turns out that people’s level of training and experience don’t always predict high performance. From psychologists to software designers, to wine experts, to decision makers and forecasters on investing, research has shown that the amount of time spent in the field is not a reliable measure of performance.

Something else is essential, which K. Anders Erickson and his co-editors map out in their tome, “Expertise and Expert Performance.”

What makes the difference between a Mozart or a Beethoven and somebody who can play quite well? What makes the difference between a Michael Jordan and a good overall basketball player?
