FRYING PANS AND FIRES

We've all heard the expression "Out of the frying pan and into the fire," to go from bad to worse than bad.  The question of the moment in America is:  Will that be what voters do on November 7?

Congress's summer recess ended this week, with Congressistas, Senatorials, and their staffers flooding back into town.  The mood on Capitol Hill is not upbeat.

The Pubbies know what a lousy job they've done, the Demmies terrified the voters will figure out they are a lousy alternative.  That's why the electorate is in such a lousy mood:  Let's see, frying pan or fire?

An example of how demoralized conservative Republicans are in Congress was the shouting match that took place this morning during the GOP Caucus, a weekly meeting of all Republicans in Congress.

SOME JIHAD!

Bit by bit, we are getting a fuller picture of our enemies on the ground in the Middle East, and the fanciful legend of a bunch of religiously inspired fanatics is eroding. If only someone could convince our so-called intelligence agencies to step away from their false assumptions (Porter Goss was on display last week, babbling about the "Sunni insurgency," as if that nonsense had not been exploded 30 years ago), we might make more progress.

We are engaged in a regional war against a terror network that cannot be reduced to a simple ethnic or religious element. The network is bound together by a common hatred of us and our friends and allies, not by a single religious fanaticism, and the terrorists come in all shapes and descriptions.

Their effectiveness is largely due to support from the terror masters in foreign countries, and we cannot win the battle of Iraq without destroying the terror masters in Tehran, Damascus, and Riyadh. There is no escape from this destiny. If they survive, we lose.

EVEN MORE TRICKS FOR A SAFE AND EASY REINSTALLATION

Let’s turn to the free program, Belarc Advisor. After running it, sending the results to my Yahoo account, burning them to a CD, and printing them out, I was shocked to find a glaring defect.

Because I’m organized, this defect was only a minor inconvenience. For you it might be a real pain. Let’s take a look at Belarc’s shortcomings, and figure out a way to head off problems in advance.

THE HAMAS STRATEGY

What is Hamas doing?

Hamas isn't going to defeat Israel.

It isn't going to gain any territory. Israel isn't going to withdraw from Ashkelon or Sderot under a hail of rockets.

So if Hamas can't win, why is it fighting?

One reason is that Hamas has every reason to take heart from the responses it has received from Mr. Obama.

OBAMA PACKS THE COURT

If you have ever been before a judge for any reason, did you think about whether the judge was appointed by a Democrat or a Republican?

Probably not. People expect judges, regardless of political leanings, to be fair and competent -- and for the most part, this expectation has been fulfilled in America, unlike many other places in the world.

The action by the Senate Democrats last week, though, to kill the long-standing agreement that required a 60 percent supermajority vote for the confirmation of a federal court judge (with the exception of the Supreme Court) and change to a simple majority vote causes many to fear the increased politicization of the federal judiciary.

The immediate cause of the Senate action in changing its rules appears to be the desire of the Obama administration to appoint three new federal judges to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. This court is often viewed as the most important appellate court, in part because many of the cases involving alleged federal government overreach go to that court.

That's why Obama wants to "pack" it with liberal judges.

THE SURVEILLANCE STATE MONSTER AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

There's really no more doubt about it, the US government is a Surveillance State, far beyond any East German autocrat's wildest dreams. And it is far, far more dangerous to us than Al Qaeda.

We all come from a background that taught us that the Soviet Union and its totalitarian empire was horrifying (which it was), and that the USA was good, noble and pristine. That makes it hard for us to accept that the US has now become what East Germany once was. We keep looking for reasons to not to believe it.

So what now?  Your first move is to protect yourself. There's no use in saying much against a surveillance state while they're listening to your every word.  There are two ways to protect yourself:

IS AMERICA’S ONLY HOPE SOMEONE WHO ISN’T WHITE?

Please tell me you're not so into masochism that you subjected yourself to watching Zero's latest Ode to Fascism on Tuesday night (2/12).

The slightest attempt to make the tiniest-eensiest reduction in federalie spending growth is depicted by the Fascist-in-Chief as "heartless," "brutal," and "savage."  CommieMedia rags like the LA Times always without exception call any reduction in spending growth a "cut" that is "axeing," "slicing", and "slashing" government programs that women and children couldn't survive and will die without.

The dreaded Sequester Monster scaring everyone cuts nothing (except Defense of course).  It merely marginally reduces automatic increases in federalie budgets.  This is called The Budget Baseline Con.  Here's a chart by CATO showing sequestration is a miniscule slowdown of increasing trillion-dollar deficits.

So... is there no hope?  No hope that we can rescue our freedom from the maw of Leviathan?  It's not just that our Constitution has been trashed.  It's that America is no longer a democracy.  It is a mafiacracy like Putin's Russia or Chavez's Venezuela.  Democrats from Zero to the punk who stole Allen West's seat did not get honestly elected last November.  Democrats win by acting on Stalin's dictum, "It's not who votes that counts, it's who counts the votes."

We can't get out of this, we can't aspire to a solution until we understand the basic reason and cause for how we got into this tragedy in the first place.

GOD DAMN BARACK OBAMA

That didn't take long, did it?  That's the way it is with frenzies, whether they're dotcom bubbles or phony messiahs.  A few moments of "the madness of crowds," then it's down the rabbit hole of history.

So there goes another Great Black Hope, the Great Liberal Dream of absolution from America's racist sins dashed yet again.  Better luck in 2012 or 2112, O ye liberal sinners, because it's over in 2008.  Obama is toast.

You know he's toast when Chris Matthews, who poses as a tough-guy bully but is really just a liberal pussy wallowing in white guilt, goes apoplectically over the top proclaiming Obama's speech in Philly today to be "one of the great speeches in American history," surpassing Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream and "worthy of Abraham Lincoln."

To see the total absurdity of this, try imagining Martin Luther King's reaction to a Jeremiah Wright sermon.  You can be quite confident he would publicly denounce it as the most vile racism and walk out of the church.  Obambi and his not-proud-of-her-country wife stayed for 20 years.

This smooth-talking charismatic con man is lying through his teeth when he said he wasn't really aware of his pastor sermonizing "God Damn America."  God Damn America?  No, God Damn Barack Obama.

THE DDT PARTY

Everyone "knows" that DDT -  Dichloro-Diphenyl-Trichloroethane - is a terrible poison.  It isn't, of course (see, for example, the Harvard Nurses Health Study).  Yet because everyone is so sure it is, some folks on the Republican National Committee figure it might as well be used to poison the Democrats.

So don't be surprised if you hear the party of Lost Harry Reid and Pelosi Galore, of Shrillary and Barack Hussein being called The DDT Party - the party of Defeat, Death, and Taxes.

Defeat - as in surrender, wanting America to lose, waving a white flag at America's enemies.

Death - as in promoting a culture of death, of the murder of millions of unborn children, of hysterically opposing any attempt to prevent their murder.

Taxes - as in always advocating more and higher taxes as the answer to any problem.

DEMOCRACY IN LIBYA?

Muamar Qadaffi has run Libya as an Islamic dictatorship since 1969.  The history of his oppression and sponsorship of terrorism is long.  Ronald Reagan called him "The Mad Dog of the Middle East."

It took George W. Bush to bring Qadaffi to heel.  After Bush chased Saddam Hussein out of Baghdad and into a spider hole, Qadaffi called up Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and told him he didn't want to end up like Saddam.

So Qadaffi came clean on his WMD program, the extent of which stunned the clueless CIA.  He invited international inspectors to Libya, where they removed several tons of chemical weaponry, and dismantled an active nuclear weapons program.

As a result, this past May 15, the State Department announced the US was restoring full diplomatic relations with Libya.  Hotels in Tripoli and Benghazi are full of US oil execs and other businessfolk making deals.  Yet Qadaffi remains a dictator and Libya the antithesis of a democracy.

Until this week.

WHO’S AN IRAQI?

First, a news bulletin:

According to Iranians I trust, Osama bin Laden gave the world the most marvelous Christmas present he could possibly give by departing from it in mid-December. The Al Qaeda leader died of kidney failure and was buried in Iran, where he had spent most of his time since the destruction of Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. The Iranians who reported this note that this year's message in conjunction with the Moslem Haj came from his number two, Ayman al-Zawahiri, for the first time.

Now on to the subject at hand.

Of all the confusions surrounding the war in Iraq, perhaps none has clouded so many minds as the phony question, "Are we fighting domestic insurgents or foreign terrorists?" The people who purport to answer this question with "data," should look again at the demographics of Iraq, Syria, and Iran, and they can start by asking themselves, "Who's an Iraqi"?

That question is surprisingly difficult to answer...

BUYING A LAPTOP

Most people buy laptops for their portability, not its speed or upgrade-ability. Laptops let you be productive almost anywhere, and having a ‘portable office’ is an advantage for many.

But laptops are generally overrated. Only secretaries, salesmen and engineers make good use of their laptop. Many others play games, surf the internet, check their email, try to work and talk at the same time, or at cafs work and watch the more attractive members of the opposite sex at the same time.

Given the expense involved, laptops are for all intents and purposes un-upgradeable. You are married to whatever CPU, video card (built into the motherboard) , sound card (also built-in) and screen come with the laptop.

Laptops are much slower than desktops that have similar CPUs. Slower CPUs, motherboards, hard drives and video systems all contribute to the speed loss. According to reviews I’ve read, the best laptop built-in video card would be lucky to be half as fast as the best desktop video card.

Of course, there’s always a better component out there, but it’s going to cost you.

MICHELLE’S LOW-FAT FRAUD

Michelle Obama's Food Police are on the prowl: if you hear a knock on the door, hide the sugar bowl, the butter dish and the salt. Her campaign to force us all to eat a "low-fat" diet - called "My Plate" - is just getting started.  What's happening in Tennessee is a good example.

Her war on foods that are high in saturated fats, sugar and salt is all in the name of "protecting the children."  Yet there is a strong possibility that the "diabesity" epidemic she campaigns against has been caused largely by the very food police whom she champions.

So argues a devastating new book: The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz, an experienced journalist who spent eight years tracking down all the evidence for and against the advice to eat low-fat diets. She finds that it was based on flimsy evidence, supported by an intolerant consensus backed by vested interests and amplified by a docile press. And it made us fatter.

Low-fat became a craze. It still is: look at supermarket shelves.  Read Mrs. Obama's press releases.  But it's all a fraud.

HALF-FULL REPORT 02/07/14

Was there some kind of football game last Sunday?  I remember Broadway Joe's totally bitchin' fur coat that got all the PETA pussies in a tizzy.

And of course,  Tim Tebow's fabulous commercial:

But other than a safety being scored in the first 12 seconds, not much else.

Oh, yes, there was President Smidgen, demonstrating for the billionth time that he hasn't a smidgen of honesty in his devious heart of darkness.

WHY DO WE NEED THE FED?

"I wouldn't start here if I were you," is the punch line of an old Irish joke, which monetary scholar Kevin Dowd cites to illustrate the deeper and deeper hole the Federal Reserve is getting us into.

Mr. Dowd, in a paper delivered last week (11/14) at the Cato Institute's 31st annual Monetary Conference, concluded:

"The modern financial system has not only kicked away most of the constraints against excessive risk-taking, but positively incentivized systemic risk-taking in all manner of highly destructive ways . We have gone from a system that managed itself to one that requires management, but cannot be managed.

We have gone from a system that was guarded by market forces operating under the rule of law to one that requires human guardians instead -- but we have not solved the underlying problem of how to guard the guardians themselves."
These last two lines could equally be applied to Obamacare, because both are examples of F.A. Hayek's description of "The Fatal Conceit" so often exhibited by those who believe in government more than markets.
